It wasn't as though Rose had brought him home to meet her parents. But it didn't escape her that it was a side effect of the whole ordeal. The door was unlocked, so Rose opened it--it was the house she'd grown up in, after all. "Mu--Mom!" she called loudly to announce her arrival.
"Rose!" Jackie answered as loudly, heading for the front door. "And you brought your gentleman-friend," she said, smiling to greet the two of them. "I hear he's quite a wealthy man!"
Rose paled a bit. "What? Mom, no. Who told--? You've been talking to Lisa." She knew why her mom would call one of the waitresses Rose worked with, but she couldn't figure out why Lisa wouldn't just hang up.
"Well, of course I've been talking to Lisa! You never come home, you hardly ever call, how else am I supposed to find out about my daughter's life?"
Rose could've argued that they Skyped almost every week, which surely fell under the category of calling, but it was useless. Moving on. "Mom, this is Liam. Liam, this is my mother." Please don't run away.
