Who: Anna of Arendelle and Yuffie When: November! Where: Shop on Campus What: Random Encounter/Lunch! Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Sometimes, Yuffie really didn’t want the lunch she packed for herself. She really thought it saved money and was smart, yes, packing herself some food every morning to eat meant that she wouldn’t waste all her allowance on silly things like junk food.
But today Yuffie just didn’t want her sandwich with salad and cheese. So today was a day for going to the little coffee shop on campus to get a toasted cheese sandwich and some flavoured water. Because every now and then Yuffie deserved a treat. And this was one of those days.
If only the line wasn’t so long. She pouted at the head of the person in front of her, like that would make any difference at all. “Aw phooie.”
If Yuffie deserved a treat every once in a while, so did Anna. She’d been up all night studying--okay, maybe not all night, but fairly close--and was desperate for something other than pop tarts and Red Bull. That was the one downside of living in a house with three people who didn’t have to eat human food. If Anna didn’t do the shopping and cooking, all they’d have in the fridge was blood.
“Seriously,” Anna sighed, agreeing with the person behind her. Then again, that voice sounded… familiar? The redhead turned around to glance behind her and see who it was.
“Hey.” The pout quickly morphed into a wide grin, Yuffie unable to really actually maintain any kind of sadness for too long. It was exhausting being sad, she much preferred to just stay mostly happy as much as possible. “How’ve you been?”
Meeting people in coffee shop lines was so much easier to deal with long lines. It meant you could talk to someone to take your mind off the fact that you were waiting forever in line.
Anna brightened, too, when she saw the face of the girl behind her in line. She remembered Yuffie from the class they had together last year, and… didn’t they have one together this year? Besides, Yuffie wasn’t exactly a common name around these parts. It was hard to forget.
“Good! Mostly good!” Anna said, smiling brightly. She practically lit up the whole restaurant. “You know… homework’s a bit of a pain, but I’m glad to be here! Ready for my mocha whenever the line will move! How are you?”
“I’m dying of thirst,” exaggeration, but Yuffie was really good at that, “but otherwise awesome!” She was still riding off her high from Halloween, sure the decoration things had been a little weird, and she’d gone full budget on her costume wearing clothes with some bandages to make her a ninja with a throwing star decoration from her apartment wall, but it’d been awesome all the same.
“My brain is totally getting all goopy from everything inside it.” Studying was hard, she hated it, but she knew she needed to. “But at least winter break is coming up, right?”
Anna and Yuffie should really be best friends. They were similar in their levels of enthusiasm and chipperness. Anna liked what she knew about Yuffie--which wasn’t much, they’d just had a class or two together so far--and was hoping they could become friends. Anna was good at making friends. This should definitely happen.
“Oh my gosh, you get the goopy thing, too??” Anna asked, then laughed. “It’s seriously like… how am I gonna survive finals?” The grin on her face brightened. “I love Christmastime! I’m so excited for Christmas music and decorations and the like. Can it be Christmas yet?” A grin.
Friends were good, they were actually fairly easy if they could overlook Yuffie’s constant stream of consciousness chattering. Which maybe only a handful of people actually bothered with.
“November is totally when Christmas starts.” Her dad actually used to give her birthday presents in Christmas paper because it was all he could find at the last minute (the fact that people needed to remind her dad of when her birthday was should’ve annoyed her more, but he tended to go overboard with making it up to her -she was looking forward to the gift she’d get two weeks late this year). “I think we can start almost celebrating.”
It was time for gingerbread drinks and eggnog to show up, the pumpkin was so over now. “I’m super looking forward to decorating my apartment because I can actually hang things this year!” She may or may not go utterly overboard with the lights.
“Oh man, I have a house this year!” Anna totally knew the feeling about decorating. She grinned brightly. “The Halloween Decorations kinda went … weird. But Christmas is where it’s at! I’m gonna get one of those inflatable Santas. I’m so excited!” She nearly chirped the words. Then she had to step forward in line when the line moved up. Another step closer to her mocha!
Yuffie had hunkered down in Seventh Heaven with the party people to avoid the mass of weirdness, but this was the OC, weirdness happened all the time, it was something they probably just let pass them by now. At least Yuffie was getting there anyway -oh well, the pumpkin patch came alive, just another day in the OC. That sort of thing.
“Oh man that sounds awesome! And lights, I like the pretty sparkling ones. I totally wanna put them up around my windows but my bills would totally rocket.” And her Pops would likely complain, stupid anti-Christmas old man. “You could do the whole lawn!” Or not, cause that kinda got insane sometimes, but so much cool stuff was available!
“I totally should!” Anna agreed, grinning brightly and nodding. “I’m already planning on sending my roommate Stefan up onto the roof to staple on some fake snow. Then again, maybe we’ll get real snow again this year!” She nearly chirped at the idea. ...A bit weird for Anna of Arendelle to get excited about snow. Her sister could make the stuff. But still, she was easily excitable.
“It snows in California?” Yuffie was mildly surprised at that. She’d spent last Christmas in San Diego with her dad and some of the ‘family’ from the fairgrounds, which had been nice. But this year she wasn’t looking to do that, probably just her hanging out with Tifa, and the others at the bar. Which would be nice! “That sounds fun!”
But real snow would be so cool. Yuffie hadn’t actually gotten to really see snow -except the slushy stuff in Washington when she was little. “But decorating the house sounds super fun. You guys totally should, and like take some pictures!”
“It’s… sometimes it’s ridiculously weird in Orange County,” Anna said, apologetically. “It’s snowed here before in December. Actually, it’s snowed the last couple of years in December,” her expression changed a little as she thought back to the last two Christmases. They were white. It’d be nice.
“You should come over and help me decorate! It’s a new house, so I’m trying to figure out where everything goes.” Anna chirped. “I’m sure my roommates wouldn’t mind! We could have a decorating party!”
Of course, the OC, things were undoubtedly weird thanks to the weird that was this place. “Oh, okay that makes more sense, weirdly.” It was telling of just not normal things were when weird was actually logical.
“Oh that’d be so cool!” She couldn’t really go too crazy decorating herself, she wasn’t allowed to do anything to the outside of her apartment, save for her little balcony. So helping Anna figure out how to decorate her house would be totally fun! “If you need the help I’m there!”
“I love this plan!” Anna said, grinning brightly. She was practically jumping up and down with excitement. “Oh! I should probably give you my phone number. We can text! Set up a time to decorate together!”
It worked for Yuffie, because decorating was awesome and she really liked when people were just as excited about it too. Which obviously Anna was. “Great, here, you can take mine too, so that y’know, you know who I am when I pester!” And she was only being mildly self-deprecating. “I can’t wait! It’ll be loads of fun.”
Anna laughed. “That sounds great! I love being pestered!” She pocketed her phone again, glad that she’d made a new friend. They were obviously going to get on swimmingly.
