Chuck wasn’t much of a fan of Orange County. He much preferred the East Coast and New York. The West Coast just didn’t have the same class. But his uncle Jack had sent him to run the West Coast division of Bass Industries and he was determined to make their hotels here more successful than the ones back on the East Coast. Prove that he was the rightful heir to the company. That it should be him running it, not Jack.
There was one bright spot in being out in California though (and no he wasn’t referring to the constant sunshine, he didn’t particularly like that). Blair Waldorf. He knew she was out here too. Staying with her father, interning at a fashion magazine. Which is precisely where Chuck was right now. In a limo, outside the magazine’s offices, waiting for the one and only Blair Waldorf to make an appearance.
For the most part, Blair liked her internship. She liked when she was able to give her opinion on a layout or something else featured in an upcoming issue or helping to come up with an idea for an upcoming issue, but she disliked the times when she was asked to get get coffee or lunch. She knew it was a part of her internship, but she couldn’t help but feel like being a gopher was beneath her.
Coffee order list in hand, she stepped out of the building and began walking down the street. She paid no attention to the limo parked outside, assuming someone was at the magazine for an interview. The last person she’d expect the limo to belong to was Chuck.
When Chuck saw Blair exit the build he rolled down the window of his limo and smirked, looking out at her. “Well if it isn’t Blair Waldorf,” he said loud enough for her to hear as she walked by. Some might consider this stalking, but Chuck considered it making both their days.
At the sound of Chuck’s voice, Blair briefly considered continuing to walk, because the last thing she wanted was for someone like Chuck Bass to see her getting other people’s coffee. In the end, she stopped and turned to face him, folding the coffee list and slipping it into her person, “Chuck Bass. What are you doing here? Don’t you have a company to run?”
Of course Chuck noticed her hide some slip of paper. He had always been observant. But he chose not to comment on it. For now. “Jack sent to head up the West Coast division,” he replied unable to hide the bitterness in his voice. It should be him running the whole company back in New York. But for now he would have to make do. “Figured as long as I’m stuck out here I’d pay my favorite brunette a visit,” another smirk. “You going to get in?”
“And how is Jack? Hasn’t had any unfortunate accidents? What a pity.” Blair knew how much Chuck disliked his uncle and she couldn’t really blame him; the guy was the epitome of a dick. At his question, she took a moment to think before she moved closer to the limo. She didn’t want to seem too eager, “I have to be back in at least thirty minutes.” She figured that it would be quicker getting to and from the coffee shop if she had a ride.
“Not yet.” If anyone deserved an unfortunate accident it was Jack Bass. But Blair already knew that. How Jack was running the company over him, Chuck had no idea. But that would change soon. He’d make sure of it. “Tight schedule,” he commented leaning over to open the door to let Blair into the limo. “And here I thought you always had time for me.”
“I’ll say it again. What a pity.” Blair got into the car as Chuck opened the door and settled in beside him, “I do, but if I spare too much time, I may lose my internship and I’ve worked too hard to let that happen.” She smiled at Chuck and adjusted her clothes and hair now that she was sitting, “Speaking of my internship, we’ll need to stop by the coffee shop.” Screw it; Chuck would find out she had been sent for coffee eventually.
“Blair Waldorf, fetching coffee. I never thought I’d see the day.” But then he also never thought he’d see the day where Jack ran Bass Industries over him. “What has the world come to?” He was only half joking. “Hope you have time for a pit stop first.”
“It’s only one part of my internship. I do much more than simply fetch coffee.” She set her purse down beside her on the seat, brows raising at Chuck’s statement, “And where is this pit stop? Not something I’ll be regretting, is it?” She could only imagine where Chuck wanted to bring her.
“Defensive, Waldorf,” he commented with a smirk as the limo headed to their location. “I would never take you to a place you’d regret.” That was obviously sarcasm and a lie. But where they were headed, well he didn’t think Blair would regret it.
The limo stopped at their destination. Chuck got out first holding the door open for Blair. “Welcome to Victrola,” he said gesturing to the building before them.
“Of course you wouldn’t,” Stepping out of the car, Blair looked up at the building, clearly unimpressed, “What is this?” She didn’t understand why Chuck had brought her here, “And why are we here?” While spending time with Chuck wasn’t a horrible thing, she didn’t have time for a side trip like this.
Chuck scowled at her. This hadn’t been the reaction he was looking for. “My club.” Well technically it was owned by Bass Industries but Chuck was running it. “It’s opening next month.” It was also daytime and they were outside so Blair wasn’t quite getting the full affect. “Come on let me show you. If you get in trouble all your magazine I’ll take the blame.” Being Chuck Bass had it’s perks. He’d get Blair out of being late.
“You bought a club? Why does that not surprise me?” Chuck had always been a party guy so this was something that Blair should have expected. “Alright, give me the grand tour.” She glanced at her watch to check the time and figured she could say that they line at the cafe was long.
That was somewhat better. He placed a hand on the small of her back and walked her inside. The place was pretty empty at the moment but it had that old timey feel, there was a bar off to the side, booths over-looking the stage where girls were practicing the dances. It was still a bit of a work in progress but still Chuck was proud and you could tell by the smile on his face.
As Chuck led the way inside, Blair took it all in and had to admit that she was impressed. “So, it’s just going to be a dance club?” She couldn’t seem like she actually was impressed of course, “How original.”
“No,” Chuck shook his head frowning at her again. Of all people he had assumed Blair would understand. Would see what this place was about to become. Back in Manhattan there was always this unspoken bond between the two of them. She had been the only person who ever came close to understanding him. The only one that saw things the way he did.
“A Burlesque Club,” he clarified his smile slowly coming back on his face. “It might be too sophisticated for these Orange County types. They seem more into the club scene. Not as upscale and classy as The Upper East Side.” But he was still determined to make it work. Make it a success.
Of course Blair had figured out what Chuck had in mind for the club, considering the girls who were currently hanging around rehearsing, but she felt the need to give Chuck a hard time cause she couldn’t just come right out and admit that what he was doing was impressive. That’s not how they worked. “I’m sure you’ll find a couple people who will be curious and want to see what it’s all about.” Honestly, she had no doubt that one way or another Chuck’s club would be a success.
“And you’ll be there opening night.” He didn’t say it as a question. He couldn’t imagine Blair not being there. It simply wasn’t an option. With all their scheming back in New York she knew him better than most. Even Nate. So yeah, she had to be there. And he knew her fairly well too. Or he would like to think. “Now let’s get you to a coffee shop,” he said placing a hand on the small of her back and leading her out. He could easily get Blair excused if they did happen to be late getting back, but he had a feeling she would probably prefer to be on time.
