WHO: Asami and Elizabeth
WHAT: clubbing and chatting
WHERE: a club
WHEN: A couple Saturdays ago
WARNINGS: none
STATUS: Complete
Asami decided to take out her cobra.. She was a little paranoid about losing it again, and it had required weeks of painstaking repair, but the car had been returned to it’s original condition. So despite her paranoid she wanted to drive it around. And maybe show off a little for a new friend who had apparently never been to a club before.
She pulled up to Elizabeth’s place, and stepped out of the car. She wore red. A red mini-dress, four inch heels, and the kind of lipstick that could murder most people.
Elizabeth knew enough about makeup to not poke her eyes out applying eyeliner, but she’d spent the morning watching tutorials on youtube for modern makeup. She’d also gone shopping to previous day to get a dress. Booker wasn’t helpful when it came to figuring out what to wear, so she’d flipped through a magazine and asked on the network to get some ideas.
She was wearing a black dress, her hair done up in soft curls. She waited on the front steps of the house, fidgeting with her new phone. It was the most amazing thing she’d ever owned.
The gorgeous Cobra that pulled up to the curb might as well have come from a dream. Elizabeth gasped in delight and bounced to her feet. That had to be Asami. “Bye Booker and Miss Anna!” she bounced down the sidewalk in her heeled boots, wobbling a little on the first couple steps. She hoped she’d get the hang of heels soon.
The dress was cute. Asami waved at Elizabeth as she bounced up. "Hello. It's nice to meet you, Elizabeth." She held her hand out in greeting. "I'm Asami. But that's probably...kind of obviously actually."
Elizabeth giggled and nodded. “it is, but that's okay. It's nice to meet you.” She took Asami’s hand and shook it. That much she'd learned about meeting new people. Asami looked great, but Elizabeth was torn between admiring her and admiring the car. “you were right, she's a beautiful car.”
“She’s a guilty pleasure. Originally my company just built electric cars. The latest model actually has an engine I perfected. We try to make it powerful enough to still be fun, but there’s something about a roaring engine that gets me every time.” She grinned at the car, then at Elizabeth. “When I street race I actually use an electric car. It’s kind of nice to rub it in the mens’ faces. Beaten by a girl in an electric car. But I didn’t say that because street racing is illegal.”
“Oh, how interesting!” Elizabeth said earnestly as she slipped into the car and fastened her seatbelt. “How do you do it if it’s illegal? Do you just hope you don’t get caught?” Breaking rules was fascinating to her because she’d tried and failed to do it so much before her grandfather’s death. That someone did it for sport made her a little jealous.
“... pretty much! You have to know what streets don’t have any cops around, and you schedule it as close to the event as possible so they can’t find out. Never been caught. But it’s been a little while since the last time I seriously raced.” She slid into the car and started it. The engine roared as she revved the pedal.
“It sounds risky. The police aren’t very nice.” Even when they were being helpful they were not as outgoing or friendly as the other people Elizabeth had met since her emancipation. “I’ve never been to a club before, is it okay if I stick close to you in case someone tries to grind with me?”
"They're more nice to some people than others," Asami replied. She'd had to deal with her share of investigations following her father's imprisonment. She checked her mirrors, then sped out into the street, and laughed lightly at the grind comment. "Of course! You can stick close to me. Lucky for you I'm not the kind of person to take advantage of you."
“I appreciate that,” Elizabeth said with a laugh. “I’m not ready for boys yet. I’ve only met a couple and they’ve been nice but I’m not convinced they’re worth the trouble.” The presumed trouble, anyway. Booker would probably approve of her attitude, and that mattered to her, at the moment.
Asami smirked at her, then returned her gaze to the road. “It isn’t always the boys you have to worry about. But they’re definitely not worth the trouble sometimes.” She thought about Mako and while she loved the man he had been more trouble than he’d been worth. Too much heartache there, but she was a very forgiving person.
Elizabeth mulled that over a little, then came to the conclusion that, “I don’t mind girls so much. I’ve wanted to have girl friends since I was little.” She felt better about the night knowing that she’d be with someone who felt the same way she did about boys. Her grandparents had never broached the subject. Elizabeth wondered what they’d intended to do with her as an adult.
“Have you lived here your whole life?”
“Yes, I was born here. My dad immigrated from Japan, and started out poor, working his way up. Mom stuck with him the whole time, until he was building the company from scratch and making a fortune.” Asami turned down a side street, accelerating dangerously. “We lost mom when I was little, and after that he kind of changed. He’s in jail now, for embezzlement and working with gangsters. So the company is mine now. New name, new image, new direction.”
“Wow, you must be really tough,” Elizabeth said, somewhat awed by her friend’s tenacity. “You’re so young, too! If I wasn’t already impressed I really would be now.” Of course Elizabeth was easily impressed, so that wasn’t much of a metric. “Do you enjoy your work
“I love it. I love the part where I get to tinker and invent more. So I’ve made sure to find good people who can help with the running business part. It was rocky at first. I had to fire a lot of people who’d been close to my dad.” But Asami was stubborn, and more than almost anything she’d wanted to redeem her family name. “I’d rather do things with my hands.”
She pulled up to a club, the beat of the music audible from outside. It was the kind of club with a well lit parking lot, and Asami made sure to park directly under a light. She could handle herself if they were harassed, but it was better to not invite trouble. There was a good chance she’d have to protect Elizabeth from some creep inside, anyway.
Elizabeth was surprised at how loud the club was. She moved close to Asami, holding the other girl’s hand. This was going to be a unique experience but she wasn’t going to let nerves stop her from having it. “I think this is going to be a fun night. I hope I’m an okay dancer!”
Asami squeezed Elizabeth’s hand. “It’ll be fun! Don’t be nervous, just relax and let the music flow through you.” She grinned. “It’s a chance to let loose and act like a normal person for once. I’ll teach you how to dance.”
The act like a normal person bit seemed strange to Elizabeth and made her worry that she wasn’t acting like a normal person. She resolved to relax and try to act like the people around her as much as possible. “I can’t wait to learn!” She smiled brightly.
The noise of the club reverberated in her chest when they got inside and Elizabeth laughed at the sensation. “Oh my!” She showed her ID when asked and paid her cover fee, looking around eagerly to see what the lace looked like. It was full of noise and people, with flashing lights and artificial fog. She’d never imagined a place like this, and her expression showed her amazement.
Still holding Elizabeth’s hand tight, Asami led her through the crowd. She had to lean in close and talk loudly to make sure she was heard. “Do you want to try a drink first, or dancing first? This is your night, we’ll do what you want!”
“Oh, i’ve never drunk before.” She said with a smile. “Let’s try that! People seem to enjoy it a lot.” The reasons why escaped her, but she had no doubt she’d enjoy it too. Some of the best authors had been indulgent when it came alcohol, so it couldn’t be that bad, right?
She went to the bar, holding tight to Asami but barreling through the crowds to make a straight line.
Asami was less sure on this idea, but she stayed attached to Elizabeth. She’d just make sure the girl had something light to start with. The same thing she was going to have, since she was going to be driving. She leaned close, her mouth next to Elizabeth’s ear. “Did you eat anything today?”
Elizabeth nodded and opened her purse to show Asami that it had a few protein bars in it. She turned her head close to her friend and said, “I did read up a little on what happens at clubs and how to keep from getting too drunk. A girl has to look after herself, after all.” She smiled brightly, then pressed her way up to the bar and ordered a beer that she knew had low alcohol content.
“Smart woman,” Asami said, pleased that Elizabeth had taken the initiative. “If you’ve never drank before you want to be careful, even with food. The stuff here can be strong.” Asami ordered something similar. It wasn’t her choice in drink, but she should burn off the alcohol by the time she needed to drive again.
Elizabeth nodded and took a dainty sip of her beer. It was unlike anything she’d ever tasted before. She made a face at the cup, annoyed that she didn’t like the somewhat expensive drink. “Eww. It’s so bitter. Like an evil grapefruit.” She looked around for a place to set their drinks, but the crowd was too thick to see anything but people. Elizabeth suddenly felt very out of her element and it made her anxious. Her grip on her drink tightened and she took another sip just to have something to do with her hands.
"Beer isn't my favorite either," Asami wrinkled her nose. "And now I remember why. Evil grapefruit, I like that." She braced herself, then chugged half of it, before pulling Elizabeth through the crowd. "If you set it down, don't pick it back up, too risky."
She tossed hers in the trash, then smirked and regarded Elizabeth. "Care for a dance?"
Elizabeth nodded and threw her beer away as well. She could safely strike drinking off her list of favorite things, and that was good to know! “I’d love to dance!” She said with a wide grin. Finally the part of the night she’d been looking forward to most.
Asami would have to introduce her to wine and fruity drinks, but that would be another time. She took Elizabeth’s hand again, and pulled her towards the dance floor. Like everywhere else it was crowded, and the music was louder here, pumping sound through her veins and reverbing in her chest. All around them people were dancing, a wide variety from seemingly every walk of life. She pulled Elizabeth close to her. “Follow my lead!”
Elizabeth put her hands on Asami’s hips, eager to do as the more experienced woman said. She was a little freaked out by the noise, but it was not nearly as important as her joy at finally having the chance to dance with someone.
"Just mimic my motions!" Asami wriggled her hips, then started to move them to the music. She put her hands on Elizabeth's hips to help guide her. For some people, rhythm was natural - for Asami, it was something she'd had to learn. But it hadn't been too hard to translate the martial arts she'd taken for self-defense into dancing.
Elizabeth was a natural. She picked up on Asami’s motions quickly and wiggled along to the music, brushing against Asami every now and then. Each time their hips touched she felt a little electric jolt and it made her skin break out into goosebumps. It was extremely pleasant and Elizabeth laughed gleefully at the sensation.
God. Asami hadn't had fun like this in what felt like ages. She wasn't even a natural work-a-holic, but circumstances had turned her into one. She needed to start delegating more, and go out more and make more friends. Asami desperately needed more friends. She could count her friends on one hand. She'd lost her last girlfriend because she'd been unable to get Korra out of her head and had withdrawn herself from all but a few people.
So getting out was good and she was really enjoying the company. She knew she was hot, and Elizabeth was hot, and a part of her was enjoying the likely attention they were bringing.
Elizabeth didn’t care about the attention from other people. She felt herself become one with the music. The noise made it easier to lose herself in the rhythm. Her hands slipped around Asami’s waist, pulling her closer. “This is fun!” She shouted over the music.
Asami rested her arms around Elizabeth's shoulders, until they were pressed against one another by the crowd around them. She grinned at Elizabeth and nodded her head to let her know she'd heard her, and swayed them both to the music as the beat slowed down. "You're a natural!"
Elizabeth enjoyed being so close to Asami. She sighed happily, blind to the crowd around them. As far as she was concerned they were the only two people in a world made of the music that reverberated through her body. Her arms slid around Asami’s waist, so they were all but glued together. “You smell really nice,” Elizabeth said, though perhaps not loud enough to be heard.
Heat colored Asami’s cheeks. She’d caught some of that. She hoped that Elizabeth didn’t get the wrong impression about her intentions. She wanted to have a good time, and while she was attractive, Asami didn’t think Elizabeth would take to any kind of casual fling. She seemed too innocent for that but Asami knew herself well enough to think she’d only end up pining for Korra again. She couldn’t count on her and Korra ever becoming more than friends no matter what had happened in the dreams, but she’d already wrecked one relationship and there was always hope.
But she could enjoy Elizabeth’s closeness and the feel of her body and being close to someone again. Asami missed closeness and intimacy.
Elizabeth didn’t have any real idea what she was doing. She just knew that she’d never felt this way before and she wanted more of it, if she could get it. Once the slow song segued into a faster one she peeled herself off of Asami, her face bright red from the exercise and her pounding pulse. “Whew! I could use a drink! Water, I mean. It’s really warm in here.”
Sliding her hand to the small of Elizabeth's back, Asami nodded and tried to guide her through the crowd and back to the bar. She was dying of thirst too and honesty the beer had only made her thirsty. But her blood was pumping and she was having the time of her life. She ordered them two waters, then dragged Elizabeth until they found a somewhat quiet place to rest. Relatively speaking.
Elizabeth was grateful for the rest. She sighed and pressed her water bottle to her forehead before drinking half the water in one extended chug. Once she’d cooled off a little bit she grinned at Asami and said, “This is so much fun! No wonder people like to dance!”
Grinning back, Asami looped an arm around Elizabeth’s shoulders. “It takes a lot of energy. Some people can go all night long!”
Elizabeth fanned her face, laughing a little. “I don’t know if I have that kind of energy! Dancing is a lot of work.” She wasn’t quite wiped out yet, though. “I’m having a really great time! THank you for dancing with me.”
"I'm enjoying it! It's nice to remember what it's like to have fun. I love my work but I really should relax more. So I should be thanking you for dragging me out." Asami smiled at Elizabeth, her expression warm.
Elizabeth squeezed Asami’s hand and bounced to her feet again. “One more dance before we go?”
"I think I can be convinced," Asami replied.
