Svetlana Sergievskaya causes lyrical chess wars (thegirlisme) wrote in valarlogs,
The past few days were a blur with everything that had happened with Helena and then Anatoly being confusing. And when Svetlana was confused by something like emotions, she tended to get more involved with her work. As if that were actually possible. So what if she were a bit reckless when it came to the cases she worked on. What was important was getting people out of the situations they were in and into better ones. Ones where they could have a life.
Which was hard thanks to the current state of rules when it came to T-Visas and the global emphasis that was on criminalisation and conviction and not so much on victim support and understanding the different things that could come up or keep someone afraid from testifying. Really, it was maddening. But that was the world they lived in and so Svetlana would find herself in places beyond her jurisdiction fairly often.
She didn't have much in way of money, but she had enough in order to buy information. As well as see if there was anything that would be able to help tackle the aspect of the use of technology to bypass different sectors in the international selling and buying. Something that would allow for there to be a better support network for victims without subjecting them to the fear and uncertainty of trial or forced to return to their homes where they would undoubtedly be trafficked again.
Of course right now she was on her mobile, talking quickly in Russian. Because when there wasn't her work, there was the ongoing problem with her parents being in jail for things they knew nothing about all because Molokov had some strange fixation with her. She didn't know how many months it had been at this point, or how many conversations she had at random times to try and get something sorted. So far? It was nothing. And it was because of this conversation that she didn't realise that there was someone she had met before in this place.
