It wasn't often that Donna got to work at the very front of the office. The way things typically went, she spent the day mulling about from space to space, filing charts and then making coffee and then sitting in front of a computer to type whatever needed to be typed. But when the secretary was out - and the poor dear had found herself catching the flu in the middle of July - Donna took her seat and filled the roll. Days like these were considered exciting, though Donna knew that was the wrong word.
In all honesty, her job had the potential to crush people with weaker spirits and she knew it was only by virtue of the fact that she was tough that she hadn't already broken under the monotony.
Of course, she found herself being the secretary on a day after she'd found out about The Doctor, who also seemed to go by the name Tennyson Who. (That had to be in the running for dumbest name on the planet, certainly.) And Donna was distracted... not that she let that on to her coworkers.
In between phone calls, she spent the day browsing the internet. Because someone with the name Tennyson Who probably wasn't so hard to find. Using her latent (and until this point retired) stalking skills, Donna checked Facebook and then MySpace and then Twitter and then Google+. Each time, she found no results for the name.
In annoyance, Donna frowned at the screen. But she didn't give up. After a particularly dull call where she had to take down the forwarding information of an exceptionally dull man, Donna tried calling information. Again, to no result.
"He's the chattiest man on the continent and he hasn't got a Facebook?" Donna angrily muttered at her computer screen.
"What was that?" Jamie from the cubicle in the corner asked as he walked by.
"Nothing," Donna said, plastering a smile on her face and focusing a little more.
The day passed by quickly and frustratingly. At one point, she'd glanced up from the computer screen to see what almost seemed a man in pinstripes quickly walking by. It was by then three in the afternoon and Donna figured it might be best to take a break from her exhausting online search.
Of course that didn't mean she would give up; she'd just need to try something new.
