Another day, another successful class. The past week had been a little crazy with meeting Aria, but Ezra had accepted that the girls in his dreams were real. He no longer stared at them during class, instead focussing on all his students equally. However, Hanna and her cast still had him a little distracted. Mostly because he was worried about her. And now that class was over it seemed like she was struggling carrying all her things out with her crutches.
Ezra wasted no time making his way over to her. “Need some help, Ms. Marin?” he asked with a polite smile. He had a feeling knowing he was in her dreams was still a bit odd for her, but he hoped she saw he just wanted to help. Besides the rest of the students had already filed out, she really didn’t have another option.
Well, at least he had stopped with the creepy staring. It was something at any rate. Hanna still wasn’t exactly a fan of him, but the class had seemed to settle into a normal type class and that was all there was to it. Of course right now she was struggling because of a project she needed to work on for a different class that seemed to have come out of nowhere. Which was totally rude because she hadn’t planned accordingly.
Groaning in frustration as she tried to once again situate everything, the blonde blinked as Mister Fitz showed up.
“I think I’m--” and that was when everything fell and she just stared up at the ceiling for a moment. School was testing her patience. Right. Back to Mister Fitz. “Okay, maybe I do…” At least Caleb was going to be there so that would help. She was going to be so happy once she wasn’t on crutches anymore.
Ezra helped her collect her things keeping some in his hands to help her carry it out. “I’ve never had crutches before, but they don’t look fun,” he commented stating the obvious as they walked out of the building. “Must be hard to get used to.” He was trying to relate. “I bet once you do it’ll be time to get the cast off,” it was somewhat of a joke even though there was probably truth to it.
Ever since Hanna had broken her leg Caleb had been picking her up from campus and taking her wherever she needed to be (her mom dropped her off). Today was no different. When he saw his girlfriend leaving the building her classroom was in he immediately made his way over to her, smile already on his face. But then he saw who she was with and almost stopped in his tracks.
Mister Fitz? What the hell? That guy was real? This whole time Caleb had thought he was just a teacher in their dreams.
“Hey, Han,” he greeted her a little awkwardly. Not with the same affection he usually showed upon first seeing her. Mister Fitz had him distracted.
“Probably.” Because that would be her luck. Not that Hanna wanted to get used to the crutches because that meant that she would have to keep the cast on for a stupid amount of time. Honestly, if the idea of drinking someone’s blood didn’t gross her out or the fact her mom already knew about her leg? Healing blood would be a thing.
So it was just leaving the class. And there was Caleb. Who seemed distracted. Right. He would probably know him from the dreams as well. Had she forgotten to mention her creepy English professor was their English teacher from the dreams? Oops. But it wasn’t like Hanna put much thought into Mister Fitz if it wasn’t related to class or him coming up in conversation.
“Hey Caleb.” So it was just smile before looking to Mister Fitz. “Thanks for helping me with my books.” It was easier not to really...refer to him by his title because she kept getting it confused between professor and mister now.
Ezra was just as shocked as Caleb was. Another one was real? At least it wasn’t one of the girls like Mona or Alison. But of course Caleb was there waiting for Hanna, they were together in the dreams, at least until Caleb left for Ravenswood. Hanna already knew that Ezra was dreaming so he wasn’t going to hide the fact around Caleb. He was tired of pretending. Besides with her broken leg Caleb had to know about the dreams, right?
“It’s was no problem,” he replied to Hanna with a warm smile. He truly did want to help the girls. “Are you guys together in real life too?” he asked her before turning his attention to Caleb. “Ezra Fitz,” he said as way of introduction Hanna’s books still in his hand. “Hanna’s English Professor.”
Caleb watched the interaction between Hanna and Mister Fitz picking up on the fact that the guy clearly dreamed too with the question he asked Hanna. Of course Caleb’s protective streak kicked in. “Caleb,” he replied not bothering to give his last name. “Hanna’s boyfriend. I’ll take those,” he said holding his hands out to accept the books. “And yeah we are together. I guess you dream too.” Not that, that was all that surprising considering this place seemed to be crawling with people who dreamt.
Wow. This turned ten shades of awkward. Honestly, she had no idea on how to handle this situation. Normally she was fine with introducing people but this took on a whole different level of what the hell was her life. She had to give it to Mister Fitz that he figured out Caleb would know about dreaming. Though given she’d come up with stories for her mom, Aria and Emily, she could have told Caleb it as well.
Oh well.
She wouldn’t lie though. Knowing that Caleb seemed protective of her? It felt nice. While the girls were all protective of one another, it was the first time a guy she’d been with had been protective of her.
“Yeah. But we got together before the dreaming started.” Something that was a good thing in Hanna’s opinion. It made it more real. The dreams just added to it. Though there had been the whole spying on her for Jenna thing that she’d woken up from the day before. But Hanna was ignoring that fact. And if Mister Fitz was way ahead of her, it sounded like things worked out later on.
Things did work out for them for awhile. But then Caleb left and they broke up. That was where Ezra was at right now, along with not knowing if he lived or died himself. He had no idea how long Caleb had been dreaming and it was obvious Hanna was way behind so he wouldn’t spoil that part for them. Let them be happy. Hanna deserved something good from the dreams after they gave her that broken leg. Especially knowing what else they had in store for her.
“That’s good you two found each other,” and he was sincere in that comment. They genuinely seemed happy to see each other. it was clear how they felt. At least to Ezra. He handed the books over to Caleb.
Caleb wasn’t exactly sure what to make of that comment or of Mister Fitz in general. He didn’t seem like the worst guy in the dreams. He was just the English teacher. And apparently dating Aria which was kind of weird, considering student but not his problem. “Thanks,” he said instead once the books were handed over.
So. Very. Awkward. Hanna’s feelings on Mister Fitz were also weird. First he just had creeped her out, then finding out that he was in her dreams. Then seeing him and Aria together and the conversation she’d had with Caroline. So she would just stick with standing there awkwardly though she did nod some. Hanna was definitely happy she and Caleb had found one another despite it all.
“Well. I’ll see you on Tuesday then?” Since that was when her next class was and honestly there was only so much tension she could take before she felt like she was back in her house when her parents had still been together. It was a different sort of tension and awkwardness, but it was still tense and awkward. Meaning Hanna wanted out of it.
“Yes. See you Tuesday. Nice to meet you Caleb.” With that Ezra walked off toward his office, knowing he had left Hanna in capable hands. He had papers to grade anyway.
“You didn’t tell me Mister Fitz was your teacher,” Caleb said once the guy had walked off. He wasn’t mad or anything. He figured it had probably just slipped Hanna’s mind. Though how it could he had no idea because.. What. The. Fuck?
“Oops?” Nose scrunching up, Hanna shrugged. Or would have but it was hard to do that when she was on crutches. “Honestly I try not to think about it whenever possible.” Which was really what it was. She obviously had forgotten to mention it but when dealing with so much more? Creepy professor being creeper English teacher in her dreams but that being their only interaction? Not on the top of Hanna’s list of weirdness.
Well Caleb certainly couldn’t blame her for that. “This place is just too weird sometimes,” he muttered mostly to himself before finally going in for a kiss, wrapping his free arm around her to help with the balance. Time to greet his girlfriend properly now that the awkwardness with Mister Fitz had passed.
Caroline was on her way to Professor Fitz’s office, to officially drop his class. He had to sign a paper or something. She was technically a few days too late to drop without receiving a W but her compulsion would take care of that. As she made her way to his office she spotted Hanna kissing some long haired boy. Oh that must be the plate smashing, pumpkin patch, wedding in space, Halloween surprise, Disney marathon guy! Yeah Caroline was going to interrupt their little tender moment.
“Hanna, hey!” she called waving and walking over to the adorable couple.
“No kidding.” Even if the comment was mostly to himself, Hanna still heard it and it still totally warranted a reply. But then he decided to kiss her in proper greeting and she was happy to oblige. You know. Until she heard Caroline calling her. Welp. So much for that but it was still better than just..not having a proper greeting thanks to Mister Fitz.
Pulling away some, the blonde just smiled and waved.
“Hi, Caroline!” Because it was Hanna and of course she had a bunch of friends. It was what she did. At least this should be less awkward than the run in with Mister Fitz?
Now who was talking to Hanna? Keeping her close Caleb turned his head to see a bubbly, blonde walking toward them. Caroline. Right. Hanna had mentioned some girl named Caroline visiting her after she broke her leg. Had to be the same girl, right? “Hi,” Caleb echoed when the girl reached them, though he was lacking the same amount of enthusiasm as Hanna.
“Hey,” Caroline said again with a large smile on her face. “You must be Caleb?” yes she knew his real name but all the other ones were so cute. Seriously the guy had done some really sweet things for Hanna. “I’m Caroline. Did you stop by to see Hanna? That’s so sweet.”
Poor Caleb. But this was good because she knew that eventually Caroline would want to meet him anyway and really, this just worked out well in that regard. Not that Hanna was planning on moving from where she was currently resting against her boyfriend.
What? A girl’s allowed to be comfortable with her boyfriend in public!
“He’s been helping me since the whole broken leg.” It was sweet. And given how ridiculous school could be and juggling books, since the blood really wasn’t an option with all the situations at play, it was nice.
Caleb knew Hanna had quite a few friends, other than the ones from their dreams. Because this girl? He was pretty sure she wasn’t from Rosewood. She seemed nice though, but then why would Hanna have friends that weren’t nice? Well he wasn’t sure about Mona in the dreams and he didn’t like the things he heard about Alison but that was different. “It’s no big deal,” Caleb replied but gave Caroline a smile. Of course he was going to help Hanna. There was no question about it.
Another sweet thing from Hanna’s boyfriend. It really was so cute. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago Hanna was telling her he didn’t do the whole relationship thing? Now here he was being like the perfect boyfriend. “That’s still very sweet of you. I don’t think every guy would take off work to help out their girlfriend,” but she didn’t want to embarrass the guy so she dropped the subject. “How’d you guys meet?” she asked instead. That was a detail Hanna hadn’t told her about yet.
While teasing Caleb was fun, probably shouldn’t do it too much right now since he’d have two blondes ganging up on him and that just wasn’t fair. Of course then there was the question on how they met. If there was something Hanna wasn’t really forthcoming about, it was her… hobby… of when she was feeling reckless.
“Random running into one another. He complimented my sunglasses.”
Not the exact truth since he’d seen her steal them. But he did compliment them? In a mocking way? Which then led to lunch. And other random run ins. “Followed by me spilling coffee on him like a week later.”
Yeah Caleb would let Hanna answer that question since it wasn’t exactly legal what she was doing when they met (not like he was one to talk). However he did smirk at the memory and Hanna’s cover story. “Well they were nice sunglasses. Expensive.” He couldn’t help himself. And then it was on to the spilling coffee indicent. “Hanna’s very graceful,” yes now it was his turn to do some teasing. “She gave me some tips to get the stain out, but I’m afraid I had to let that shirt go,” he grinned at Hanna. “It was worth it.”
Awww that was a cute story. Caleb officially got Caroline’s stamp of approval. Well he pretty much already had it with all the things she had heard from Hanna, but seeing them together was just priceless. “Well did she at least buy you a new shirt?”
Switching to the coffee story was much easier to discuss. Even if she had to stop herself from laughing at the expensive comment. She knew he was poking fun at her and she really didn’t care. It was how they were so she just grinned in response to the comment about it being worth it.
Until Caroline asked about her buying him a new one and Hanna turned her attention back to her friend with a shrug as she currently didn’t need to rely solely on her crutches to stay upright.
“I offered?” And it would have been with real money as well!
“Nah, I was fine with just a cup of coffee,” he smirked still holding Hanna close to him. “But we should get going. I have to get back to work soon, unfortunately.” He really didn’t mind meeting Caroline. She seemed nice and he was pretty sure she was a good friend to Hanna. But he had already been away from his desk longer than usual. It was only a matter of time between Gwen was on his ass again. Even if Pepper knew what the situation was.
“Right! Sorry!” Caroline gave him her winning smile. “I just couldn’t resist finally meeting the guy that took Hanna to smash plates,” yes she had to comment on that because really what a random thing to do. “I have to get going to. Gotta get this class dropped.” Hanna knew which one she was talking about. “It was nice meeting you Caleb!”
Smiling, Hanna nodded. Oh yes, she well knew which class Caroline was dropping. And she really didn’t blame her. That and she knew that Caleb would need to get back to work even if she wanted to spend the afternoon with him. Oh well. It was the same routine and this was just a nice deviation from it.
“Good luck with that.” Who knew how Mister Fitz would react. Hopefully calmly. She knew Caroline could take care of herself, but Hanna worried regardless.
“Nice to meet you too,” Caleb replied.
Oh yes Caroline was more than capable of handling herself. But it was sweet of Hanna to worry. She would have given her friend a hug before heading off but seeing as how she was all in Caleb’s arms at the moment she skipped that. “Thanks!” she gave a little wave as she headed off.
“She seemed nice,” Caleb commented his attention back on Hanna. This had been a very eventful pick up. Hopefully they wouldn’t run into anymore people. Though knowing Hanna? Who knew.
“She is.” But alas, they did need to leave and while Hanna doubted they’d run into anyone else? “We should get out of here before anyone else shows up.”
