To say that he was fuming was an understatement. Alec’s latest interaction with Jace had gone downhill very fast. Alec was tired of being disregarded and Jace’s way of placing ALL the blame onto his parabatai was unfounded. The dark haired Shadowhunter hit his limit and made the rash decision to move out of the Institute. This was something that he would have liked to talk over with Magnus but he was done with Jace’s selfish attitude and he wasn’t going to apologize when he was getting shit on. His attempt to get ‘permission’ for his little brother coming over for Thanksgiving had just turned sour and now, he wasn’t going to bother.
Alec was already at Magnus’, and he’d been there since things had first gotten fucked up. Once the Shadowhunter located his boyfriend, he stood in the doorway. “Just letting you know...I’m moving out of the Institute...told Jace I would be out by the end of the week. If you want to know what happened…” he gave a shrug and then, held out his phone for Magnus to see the latest text exchange that had occurred. He was definitely upset by all this but he didn’t want to fix things if Jace was going to be an ass.
Magnus knew that there was tension between Alec and Jace, but he didn’t know it was bad enough that Alec would actually consider moving out of the Institute completely. Of course Magnus liked having Alec around, so he certainly didn’t mind him staying more often. After all, in the dreams, Alec was currently living at Magnus’ loft, so in a way they already lived together.
Magnus was in the living room, watching TV when Alec came in and he muted the volume as he watched his boyfriend hold the phone out to him. Getting to his feet, Magnus crossed over to Alec and took the phone, scrolling through the text exchange, “God, can he be more arrogant?” Magnus asked, frowning.
Alec just stayed silent as Magnus went over the texts. He didn’t know why Jace was being so disrespectful and unreasonable, but if this was the way that the Shadowhunter was attempting to get Alec to spend time with him, it wasn’t working in the slightest.
“Yeah, well, it’s what he does best,” Alec muttered before he took his phone back, and pocketed the device. He didn’t want to overthink the matter more than he already was. “I can understand if you are against the idea...but...can I stay here? Just until I can find a permanent place.” He didn’t want to assume that the man would just take him in.
“Alexander, you have a permanent place here.” Considering it was just Magnus and the Chairman in the house, it didn’t make sense for Alec to find another place to live, “If the Institute hadn’t showed up, I would have asked you to move in a long time ago.” Living at the Institute had made the most sense once the building had shown up, but now it made the most sense for Alec to live at Magnus’.
Magnus’ words were certainly nice to hear. Alec could feel a sense of relief wash over himself, at least this was easier to figure out. He looked up at Magnus and swallowed. “You know, you still could have asked…” the Shadowhunter pointed out. Alec would have preferred to move out that way than under the current conditions. “Guess it doesn’t matter now...does it?” He gave a shrug and moved to take a seat on the couch.
Magnus followed Alec and sat down beside him, sliding an arm along the back of the couch so he leaned in close to his boyfriend, “Alec, would you move in permanently?” Better late than never, right? Magnus liked the idea of waking up next to Alec every morning instead of a few times a week.
Alec gave a smirk and glanced over at his boyfriend. Then, he gave the man a playful shove. “Isn’t it a little too late to ask? Or will you not let me move in unless I say ‘yes’?” he questioned. At least, the warlock was effectively helping him forget about the ‘drama.’
“I thought I’d make it official so that you wouldn’t think you were imposing.” Magnus laughed as Alec shoved him, “Not that you’re ever imposing. You’ve been welcome here whenever you want for a long time now.” He liked that he was able to help take Alec’s mind off of everything that was going on with Jace.
“I’ve noticed a lack of feeling of being imposed upon, by you,” Alec stated before a small chuckle. “I mean, you were rather quick to let me stay with you when shit first went down with Jace and I.” He gave a slight sigh and leaned against his boyfriend. “But yes...I guess I will move in with you.” His tone was playful, even though it was a bit soft.
“Of course I was. I wouldn’t want you staying anywhere else. How would that make any sense? I mean, there’s already an Alec shaped indent in one side of my mattress so you fit perfectly here.” Magnus smiled and stroked the tips of his fingers through the back of Alec’s dark hair, “And tell Izzy that she’s welcome to come by whenever she wants. Not that she doesn’t already, but living here doesn’t have to mean you won’t see your sister just as often as you do now.”
“I kinda already told Izzy that she’d be welcome,” Alec revealed, a slight smirk on his lips. “I, actually, suggested that we invite her over for dinner, like once a week. She’d bring dessert and it would be fun...what do you think?” he asked.
“If dessert is involved then I have no objections.” Of course dessert meant more working out, but Magnus didn’t mind really. He was in good enough shape that a little dessert once a week wasn’t going to do too much damage to his physique.
“And I was thinking that we could invite Simon, as well...since I’m trying to assist Izzy in finding a boyfriend...what do you think?” Alec asked. Simon seemed like a good guy and Izzy needed someone like that, and after he learned that the guy played chauffeur to Izzy and Clary, the Shadowhunter wondered if there was some interest on from the “nerdy” guy, towards his sister.
“Does your sister know that you’re trying to meddle in her love life?” Magnus asked with a smirk. He didn’t exactly blame Alec. Magnus had been wanting to see Izzy happy with someone as well. Her relationship with Simon was a little complicated in the dreams as a result of his relationship with Maia, but he had a feeling that Simon and Izzy would make it work in the dreams and if that were possible then it could happen in real life too. Then of course there was the fact that Magnus felt a little guilty for Simon becoming a vampire since he’d been the one who had made sure Raphael didn’t kill himself after he’d become a vampire all those years earlier. So he felt that he owed Simon. “If she doesn’t kill you for meddling, I’m fine with inviting Simon as well. You seem to like him a little more in real life than in the dreams.”
“She called it ‘interfering’ but I call it ‘assistance’...so yes, she knows.” It wasn’t like they would intentionally steer the conversation to trying to push the two together. It would just be dinner together and if it brought Simon and Izzy closer, so be it. “Besides, I wouldn’t want Izzy to feel like a third wheel. It would be good to have an even number of people.”
“Well we definitely can’t let her feel like a third wheel.” Magnus was glad that Alec was looking out for his sister, “So, when should we do this dinner? I’ll have to get a recipe from your sister if we’re going to cook. Or I could conjure up something.” Conjuring up something usually meant borrowing it from somewhere else. Sure, he could order out, but it was quicker to just conjure it up.
“I’ll have to talk to Izzy and Simon about what day works best for them. Then, I will let you know.” Alec, then, leaned over and gave Magnus a soft kiss on the lips. “Thanks...for everything,” he said, softly.
Magnus smiled against Alec’s lips, his hand moving to cup the back of the Shadowhunter’s head completely, “You’re very welcome.” He hated that there was strife between Alec and Jace, but he would always be there for his boyfriend when he needed it most.
