When: After this log
Where: Tink’s place, then the hospital
What: Ezra and Haymitch are the two most recent texts on Tink’s phone
Rating/Warnings: Tink is injured. Swearing and stuff
Status: Complete!
Tink was still laying on the floor against the wall. She’d pulled her phone from her pocket, and texted the first two names with an “SOS, please come help” type of text. Honestly, there was so much pain in her chest, she wasn’t sure what she’d sent. What she’d typed. It was probably auto-corrected into something completely unintelligible, but she’d sent the text messages anyway.
She could have texted her family, but Tink didn’t want them to know about this. She wasn’t sure she wanted Ezra or Haymitch to know about this, either, as she didn’t want them to think less of Anders… it wasn’t his fault. But she needed someone to come and help her. She had stabbing pains in her chest and in her ankle. Something was probably broken.
Tears were spilling from her eyes, down over her temples and puddling in her ears and on the floor. She was staring up at the ceiling, vision blurry, trying not to feel the emotional as well as the physical pain. Her mantra was that this was not Anders’ fault. He didn’t want to hurt her. He would never.
But he had. Justice had. And that hurt so much more than the probably broken ribs and sprained ankle ever could.
Haymitch had received the text and while it looked like rubbish one thing had been clear it said SOS and it was from Tink. He didn’t think twice before jumping in his car and rushing over to her place. He didn’t know what had happened but he guessed from the state of the text that it wasn’t good and it was an emergency.
As soon as he arrived he knocked on the front door before trying the handle and entering when he found it unlocked. “Tink?” he called out worriedly.
Ezra wasn’t sure what to make of the SOS text from Tink, but of course he was going to stop by and check on his friend. He arrived moments after what appeared to be another worried friend of hers. Ezra was exiting his car when he saw Tink’s other friend try the door and be let inside. Ezra quickly followed suit entering the house just after him.
“Do you know where she is?” he asked the guy a worried expression on his own face. “Tink?” he called out for himself echoing the first man.
Tink heard the first call of her name, then the second. She was in a lot of pain. A lot. And now she was worrying about her wings. Had she crashed into the wall hard enough to hurt them? “In here,” she called back. Her voice was scratchy and labored, her breathing irregular.
When Haymitch and Ezra stepped into the living room, they’d find her trying to climb up to her feet, using the wall for leverage. But the pain was obvious all over her face. She could barely move one of her legs, and her whole torso was on fire.
Haymitch shook his head as the other guy entered but then was focused on Tink again when he heard her weak voice called back, seeing her he immediately moved to help her. “Okay, it’s okay. Just take it easy. Lean on us” he said, unspoken agreement between the two men that they would work together to help her. “Let’s get her laying down on the couch and then call for an ambulance”
As soon as he heard Tink’s voice he followed it along with the other man. Ezra was not prepared for what he found. She looked so weak and obviously injured lying there on the floor. Ezra nodded in agreement and went to help get her up. “You take the right side I’ll get the left?” he suggested.
Crouching down on the floor Ezra wrapped Tink’s left arm around his shoulder while the other guy did the same with the right side, together they were able to get her over to the couch. “What happened?” he asked Tink as they moved her.
Tink wasn’t going to argue being helped up from her spot on the floor, but an ambulance? “No, no ambulance,” she argued, shaking her head a bit as they got her up off the floor. Her voice was laced with pain. She winced with each step, holding her breath and hissing it out through her teeth.
“Justice… he shoved me.” She tried to explain. It was impossible to put into words what it looked like--those blue cracks in Anders’ skin, the glare in his eyes, the force of his hand against her. “I flew across the room into the wall, then he left.”
The cats poked their heads out of the hallway, curious and nervous about what’d transpired that day.
“Sweetheart, we need to make sure you’re okay” Haymitch said, “You need a hospital, you’re hurt” His anger at the man who’d done this to her had to take a backseat while she needed them to help her. But later there would be hell to pay.
Who the fuck was Justice? Now was not the time to focus on that fact though. They needed to make sure Tink was okay. She was clearly in a lot of pain. So yes a hospital seemed like the best option.
“I think you need to get checked out,” he agreed. “You could barely make it to the couch,” he voice was soft, filled with concern, but it was clear he wasn’t planning on taking no for an answer.
“No,” Tink winced as she settled down on the sofa. “No, I don’t want Anders to get in trouble. This wasn’t his fault. I’m really--” her voice cut off as she tried to convince the guys that she was all right. She wasn’t, really, but she didn’t want them to see how much she hurt. Tink had never been good at hiding her pain.
“...See? I’m okay.” Tink said, and tried to force a smile. It turned into a grimace, then she started to cry.
“Nobody is getting into trouble, no names need to be mentioned but you are going to a hospital” Haymitch told her, pulling out his cell phone and making the call. Anders had done this? Once Tink was sorted at the hospital they could focus on the next course of action but right now she was the priority.
Wait what? Anders? Didn’t she say something about someone named Justice? What did her boyfriend have to do with anything? Ezra was officially confused.
“Obviously you aren’t okay.” Ezra replied. It was written all over her face. He let the other guy deal with the hospital while he stayed by Tink’s side. “We won’t say names,” he assured her agreeing once again, even though if Tink’s boyfriend was hurting her it sounded like a situation the cops needed to know about. But he wouldn’t make the decision for Tink. Not tonight at least. Tonight was just about getting her help.
“Really…” Tink argued feebly, but she couldn’t hold the guys off for long. Haymitch was already making the call. “At least… drive me there?” The last thing in the world she needed was an ambulance ride. Both for the attention it would bring her, and the cost. Those things weren’t cheap, man.
Tink started to sit up from the sofa, as if to walk to the car, and gave a yelp of pain before collapsing back, wincing.
Haymitch who had been listening to her while the call was going through decided to keep her calm by agreeing to take her to the hospital so after informing them they would be coming he put down the phone and looked at the other man, “Okay, we’ll take her in the car. It’ll be quicker than waiting anyway. They know we’re coming” Then he leaned down to Tink, “We’re going to get you into the car okay sweetheart?”
Ezra figured they could get her to the car the same way they had the couch. It seemed like the best option if they weren’t going to go the ambulance route. Really he was just following everyone else’s lead. You would think he would be better in crisis with his dreams but apparently not.
“You take right, I take left again?” he asked the other man. He was trying to not focus on Tink and her pain not really knowing what else to do for her at the moment.
It didn’t matter which car they took--Tink worked on both Ezra and Haymitch’s cars, and she knew they were safe to ride to the hospital in. Tink winced, then huffed and puffed when Haymitch and Ezra wrapped their arms around her and helped to carry her to the car. It was a painful car ride to the hospital, and then a gruelling fifteen minute wait for the doctor at the Urgent Care Clinic. (Tink made sure they didn’t go to the one where Anders worked.)
She had to kick the boys out when the nurse came in to help her into a paper robe. Then the doctor could examine her injuries. It was a short examination. The injuries weren’t that severe; broken ribs (but no internal bleeding or damage) and a sprained ankle. The doctor insisted she could heal at home, alternating between ice and heat, taking pain medication, and rest.
Haymitch paced a little as they waited for the doctor to come and tell them how she was. It was only when he turned to moan about how long it was taking that he realised he didn’t know the other man's name. Dropping down into a seat he held his hand out, “Haymitch Abernathy” he introduced himself.
Now that they were at the hospital and Tink was being checked out Ezra was able to relax a little bit. He was still worried about her of course but there was nothing else he could do at the moment other than wait. He sat in one of the chairs in the waiting room watching the seconds tick by when he heard the other man speak. Right, they hadn’t gotten a chance to introduce themselves. Not that that was really a priority but they might as well now. “Ezra Fitz,” he replied. The standard addition was ‘nice to meet you’, but that didn’t exactly fit with everything that was going on. “Wish we could have met under better circumstances,” was what he said instead.
The gentlemen didn’t have much time to chat. After the pacing and the introductions, a nurse came out to let them know that Tink was gonna be okay. Well, that Isabel was gonna be okay. They were going to do some discharge paperwork, and she would need a ride home.
Tink came out a minute later, changed back into the clothes she’d worn in. She was walking gingerly, leaning on one of the nurses. She had a bag with her shoe and sock in it, as her foot was bandaged up. Every step was muted agony, but when Tink saw Ezra and Haymitch waiting for her in the lobby, she broke into a vicodin-induced smile. “My knights in shining armor.”
Haymitch listened and nodded, he’d stay with her to make sure she was okay. He wasn’t going to leave her, especially since they weren’t sure when or if Anders was going to come back.
He couldn’t help grinning at her when she came out, “Not sure I’m knight material but we’ll give it a go sweetheart” he said, stepping forward to take over from the nurse helping her.
Even though it was obvious that Tink was still in pain she also looked very happy. Perhaps drugged was the more accurate word there, but as long as she was going to be okay and feeling somewhat better.
“All right. Time to get you back home,” he said to Tink a small grin forming on his own face before looking back over at Haymitch. It looked like Tink only needed the assistance of one person now. “You got her?” he asked since they had taken Ezra’s car he figured Haymitch could handle Tink while he went to get the car.
Haymitch nodded, he had her and it looked like getting her home would be a lot easier on Tink than getting here had been.
