Since her encounter with Peggy and the other woman not realising she and Tony were getting married it had been playing on her mind that they needed to sort out the guest list and send save the dates or maybe at this point they just needed to send the invitations straight away.
Either way she’d been trying to tie down Tony about the guests for a week now and he’d been eluding her. Today however she was determined to corner him.
Tony was down in his lab at the Malibu house, working on one of his suits. He had music playing, a wrench in his mouth, and a soldering iron in hand. There was a gauntlet on the bench in front of him, and he was fiddling with the sensitive components inside.
The man wasn’t thinking about weddings or guest lists. Guns and Roses was in his ears, chips and wires were in his eyes, and ones and zeros were in his mind.
Locating him wasn’t hard which meant he wasn’t paying attention to the fact that she was looking for him which worked just fine for her.
Entering the lab she requested that JARVIS disconnect the music so he could hear her when she spoke, “Tony. I need you”
Tony registered that the music stopped, but he didn’t realize that Pepper was in his lab until the love of his life spoke his name. He finished the solder he was working on, and turned his eyes up to Pepper. “...I’m right here.” He said, a little concerned. That looked like Pepper’s serious face, and for once he was taking her seriously. “What’s up?”
Pepper sighed, “Just a little matter of a wedding in 4 months time and still no guest list” she said pointedly, she knew he’d gotten her reminders about it. “So can I interrupt your tinkering and get your input please?”
Tony pulled his safety goggles off and then tugged gloves from his hands to set on his worktable. “Sure.” He cleared his throat, knowing that he should be doing more to help with all of this wedding planning business. Pepper had probably the world’s most stressful and busy life, and he wasn’t making it any easier on her. “...what kind of input are you looking for, exactly?”
Pepper knew a lot of this stuff wasn't overly interesting to Tony, and she didn't expect his input on everything but some things, like guests, it was important. “Names” she said, “I don't want to forget anybody because I don't know you know them or something” as unlikely as that was.
“Oh.” Was that all? “I can help with that.” Tony put down the things he was holding and then swiveled his chair around. “Jarvis, forward my contact list to Pepper for me, would you?”
”Yes, Sir,” Jarvis responded in his monotone.
Tony turned back around to face Pepper. “There. I don’t really have anyone in mind who’s not already part of my address book. Except the employees. Are we inviting them?”
“I have access to your address book Tony” she pointed out, “But I wasn't sure if you wanted me to invite everybody in it or not. Though knowing there isn't anybody not in it already does help” she admitted. “I'm not sure. Maybe some? I mean Merlin will be there anyway since Audrey is supplying the cake”
“There isn’t anyone I want to invite who’s not on there.” Tony explained, though she said it better than he did. “Are there any others you get along with exceptionally well? Or can we just blanket invite them all? And we should look into inviting some folk from the Agency, too.”
“Maybe blanket inviting them all to the reception is the best way to go” Pepper nodded, the actual ceremony would be smaller guest wise but the reception would most likely end up as a free for all. It usually did with any kind of party they held. “Perhaps Peggy could help with the agency side of things?” she suggested.
That seemed like a good compromise. They could have close friends and family at the ceremony, and have a huge reception. Maybe in some hotel banquet hall somewhere. A place that would admit everyone. It was going to be in February, so it might be… chilly? Probably not. Might be raining? Probably not. It’ll be winter, anyway, so they should plan for indoors. Just in case.
“That’s a good idea. I’ll send her a note.” Tony said, nodding once. “Is there anything else I can do to help?”
Indoor planning was definitely the way to go in Pepper’s opinion, she would have contingency plans for most things that could happen.
“Thank you” Pepper said, “Not really. I assume you don’t have an opinion on place settings or flowers?” she asked.
“No.” Tony said, shaking his head. “Something that won’t make everyone sneeze?” He teased a little, grinning.
That coaxed a smile out of Pepper, “I’ll be sure that’s the top of the criteria list” she said, happier now that she could sort out the invitations and get them out.
“Good. Can get back to soldering these wires into place in my gauntlet? Unless there was something else you needed?” Tony asked, itching to finish vamping up his toy. He had to keep Pepper safe. Safer than he’d been able to in his Dreams.
“You can get back to work. Thank you for letting me interrupt” she said, pressing a kiss to his cheek, “Don’t stay too late okay?” she added, she felt the need for wine and snuggling later.
“Not too late.” Tony agreed. He turned his attention back to his work. Tonight there would be wine and snuggling. Without a doubt.
