Who: Tom Prince and Rose Hathaway When: Recently Where: Their house What: Wedding planning Rating/Warnings: G Status: Complete
The time had come when Rose had finally invested in a wedding binder. Tom’s mother had sent her a lot of wedding ideas over the past few weeks and she didn’t want to seem rude by deleting the emails. So, instead she decided to print them all out, throw them in a binder, and bring them up to Tom to see what he thought of them. They hadn’t set a date yet, but since they were finally moved into their new house she assumed that they should probably move onto that next step. There was also something nagging her in the back of her mind that she wanted to address with him.
The time came when he got home from work and she was catching up on the dvr in the living room. When she heard the door open she paused her show and waited for him to come into the living room, “Hey handsome. Ready for some wedding planning?”
The unpacking and settling in took a while. New house, new sets of everything else. Change of address, billing info, mail, electricity, cable, etc. Tom had set up the entertainment center first, because that was the most important, and with the internet came Netflix. He was set after that. They could cuddle up and watch a movie each night after work, ignoring all the boxes that still needed to be emptied.
He came home and dropped his briefcase on the table, then loosened his tie and shrugged off his jacket. “Wedding planning? Hang on, let me get a beer first.” He was only half-kidding.
The comment earned a laugh from Rose and she shifted around on the couch to lean over the arm. “Will you grab me one too then? I think we could both use one,” she called out to him. She was a little restless so she moved her long legs off the couch and once her feet were on the ground she padded over towards Tom. Her hands reached up to help pull the rest of his tie off with a smile on her face, “I love how good you look when you dress up for work.”
Tom nodded. He moved past her, leaning over to kiss her forehead on his way to the kitchen. And he was back a moment later with a couple of beers, holding one out to her as she pulled off his tie. “...I love how good you look all the time.” He responded with a smirk, then leaned in to tap a kiss against her lips.
“Mmm, flatterer,” Rose murmured against his lips as she returned the kiss. She opened up the beer and took a sip, “I also enjoy how good you look all the time as well. There’s just something sexy about when you wear a tie. But I’m not going to let us get immediately distracted, we should sit down and figure some things out. Let’s at least get a date set before you’re trying to distract me.”
“Hmm.” Tom said, taking a step closer. He still held the beer in one hand, but both arms could wrap down and around her. He didn’t even spill a drop. “Set a date. That feels like we’re making it official.” He smirked. It wasn’t as terrifying as he thought it might be. (How had she turned him into a one-woman man?) Tom turned to press a kiss into her hair. “When were you thinking?”
It was impressive how he could do things like that and not spill his drink everywhere. Apparently all this time spent as an expert flirt had taught him a few things. The kiss to her hair brought forth a smile as she pressed against him gently, “Of course we’re making it official. And I’m pretty easy, just sometime when the weather should be nice. I guess it depends on how much time we want to give ourselves to plan this thing. Maybe six months from now? That would be...April?”
“April sounds perfect.” Tom said, nodding. He was more the ‘run off to Vegas’ type, but his mother wouldn’t hear of it. She would probably have suggested they take eighteen months and plan out the world’s biggest and craziest of schindigs. Tom wanted whatever Rose wanted. Probably something in between.
“How many groomsmen should I have on my side?” It was likely she wanted him to have enough to match her bridesmaids.
“Um, how many are you thinking? I think I’m going to have more of an issue coming up with bridesmaids to match, but I can do it,” she honestly didn’t care how many he had. Her close female friends weren’t large, but she had a handful of them. As long as he didn’t want 10 or something crazy she should be able to handle it, “And alright, April it is. Any specific date you want? And no, we’re not getting married on 4-20.”
“I don’t know.” Tom said, shaking his head. “I’ve got my brother and Veronica on my side. If you want to narrow it down to two? We could do that.” And they could do something really outrageous and fun for bachelor/bachelorette stuff. Vegas trip? Hawaii? Whatever, Tom’s company had a private jet they could use any time they wanted.
“I can definitely do two. Lissa will be the maid of honor and I’ll think over the other one,” there were a couple of people she could choose from and she would just have to narrow it down, “And yeah, that’ll be a nice intimate group.” If he brought up the idea of a crazy bachelor/bachelorette party then she would totally go along with it. Much easier to get a group of six somewhere than a larger group.
“Sounds good.” Tom was glad that he’d helped with part of the planning, anyway. He could do that much. “What other Wedding planning stuff do we need to do?” Tom asked. After that success, he was feeling good about this Wedding Planning business.
“We need a date. We’ve got April and you didn’t laugh at my no 420 date,” she stuck her tongue out at him playfully, “And trust me, I’ve got a big ‘ol binder full of ideas and such. We can take a peek through it and decide on things. We’ve got to set a theme, or not set a theme, and we should look at venues. There’s a lot of stupid things to get done. And if we don’t want to do it all ourselves then we can hire a planner.”
Tom laughed. “I wouldn’t have picked it anyway.” He stuck his tongue back out at her in return. “All right. I’m really up for anything. And we can pretty much have the thing wherever we want it. My folks put aside a crap ton of money for this kind of thing.” Not that they were ever expecting to have to USE the wedding fund… but anyway.
“Let’s do like the middle of the month? We can see what’s open for venues and pick a date that way. And did they really? No strings attached?” That would be nice to have, but she wanted to make sure that they wouldn’t have to spend forever paying his parents back. Granted, he made a lot of money, but still, “Alright, let’s grab a couple more beers and relax on the couch to go through this.”
“No strings attached.” Tom wasn’t really surprised by the offer of the money for the wedding. He couldn’t imagine they were going to spend more than… what, ten thousand dollars on the wedding? Hopefully? His parents were more than willing to give that and then some. It was just sitting in an investment account slowly accruing interest.
Tom nodded, then followed her into the living room to sip beer and talk about wedding planning.
