Sarah had decided to give Jemma a visit, the other woman had done a lot for all of them and she knew it wasn’t just because she was Cosima’s girlfriend. Jemma was a good, kind person and Sarah wanted to get to know her a little better. After all they were all part of the clone club family.
Jemma had just finished up in the shower and changing when she heard the knock at the door. Odd. She wasn’t expecting company and it clearly wouldn’t be Cosima as her girlfriend had a key to her flat. It just made sense at this point, really. So sure. Why not. Making her way to the door, the biochemist stopped toweling her hair and answered the door, blinking when she saw Sarah.
“Sarah, is everything okay? Is Kira? Did you start experiencing symptoms?”
Because Jemma would just..jump to the worst case scenario apparently. She was doing her best to make sure she got out more, but she also knew the risks of what they were dealing with. One of these days, the stress would get to be too much and she would probably snap. But for now, it was reacting and worrying because it was what Jemma did best.
“What? Oh no everything's fine. Really. No worries about anything” she said quickly, calming her down. “I uh just stopped by to say hi and see how you were doing. Maybe I should have called first” she added with a small wry smile.
Again, things Jemma probably shouldn’t be so shocked by. People just stopping by to say hi. And apparently see how she was doing. Maybe she wasn’t holding it together as well as she thought? But no matter. The initial panic and concern on her face went away and she smiled and nodded. “Oh. Well then. I was about to put a pot on for tea if you’re interested?” As she said that, the biochemist stepped aside to let Sarah in.
“I'd love that” Sarah said with a smile as she entered the home of her sisters girlfriend. “So how have you been? Not working yourself too hard I hope?” Cosima didn't tell her much but Sarah wasn't stupid she could see Jemma was anxious and quick to worry.
“Brilliant.” Moving into the kitchen, Jemma set her kettle on the stove before getting cups down, as well as spoons, the sugar and milk just in case, as well as the tea. “Sugar?” And then the question on how she’d been. Well that was a complicated one given the nature of her dreams and the fact that a splinter bomb had shown up, now at the Agency. “I’ve been fine. Not working myself that hard.” Which was all subjective. Jemma? Jemma felt her work was normal. Others though might consider herself overworking. But anxious and quick to worry was accurate. Also a fear of failure amplified by the dreams. But that was neither here nor there. In theory. Even if it fueled her in her work here, especially when it came to Cosima’s health.
“Just one thanks” she replied with a nod before smiling a little, “Ah, fine. The word we use when we’re not fine but don’t want to say” Mostly anyway. Some people used it honestly but generally it was an avoiding term. She got it from kids all the time before they started opening up.
Jemma sometimes forgot that Sarah was a youth therapist. But it wasn’t like there was much to say even if she knew how to put things into words. So fine it was. She had things to focus on and it all worked out. And right now, that was making tea. So putting in the one bit of sugar, she then poured the water over the tea bags and let them steep.
“That often seems to be the case, doesn’t it?” Not addressing it, but acknowledging it was a theme. For others.
It was a curse and a blessing sometimes, almost like having a psychic power only less effective. She still got it wrong sometimes but that was life.
“It does. But you know if you ever do want to talk, about anything me and Fe are here too” she offered easily, because it might be easier to share with them than Cosima, because Sarah knew Jemma would put Cos and her health first just like Sarah would.
Jemma smiled some at the offer. “I know.” And she did. It was more Jemma having long since mastered avoiding and suppressing, only for the dreams to compact upon that. She knew her limits though. Or she claimed she knew them at any rate. Tea steeped, she turned her attention to Sarah, “Milk?” and once she got a reply on that, Jemma finished it up before moving to join Sarah.
“What about you, though? Anything of interest?”
Sarah nodded at the milk and took the cup gratefully, “Nothing too new. Helena is missing, apparently Mrs S made a deal for me and Kira so I guess dream me will go looking for her” that was the latest dream she’d had. Things had been quiet and slow lately, which she was kind of grateful for.
“Always something going on in your dreams. I swear.” Not like Jemma’s were any better. It was always some sort of high stress situation. Go under cover. Have moles within the organisation. Splintered groups, worrying about Skye, isolation from the team, only to find out Coulson was working with Ward and then her failed attempt on his life…. No, no need to go into that. “I hope things manage to work out in them.”
Because Clone conspiracies and different organisations and health issues? Those were just as stressful.
“Always” Sarah agreed, “The adventure never stops it seems. I’m sure it will work out though I am sure it won’t be easy or how I expect it all to play out” she shrugged, she was getting kind of used to being put through the ringer in the dreams.
“Oh of course not. Things rarely are either. We just have to go with it and figure out how to make them work despite it.” Dreams made things complicated, but it was also true for life Jemma found. Perhaps more so in Orange County, but it was a universal truth all the same.
“Pretty much what I’m trying to do” she agreed, “And part of that is having fun, I think we should make sure we all do that more” Especially now that Cosima was getting better, the dreams shouldn’t ruin their enjoyment of everything.
“Yes, yes it is. And this is something I definitely agree on.” Cosima was getting better but she knew it was going to be temporary until they found a permanent solution. She just needed a bit more information to reverse engineer but that was something they were just going to have to wait on from the dreams most likely, which was frustrating. It wasn’t like there was much she could do about that, though.
They all knew they needed a more permanent cure but for now they could take what they’d been given and run with it for as long as they could. Sarah had to admit that she didn’t like the fact the dreams seemed to be slowing down but thankfully the urgency had been lessened since the transplant.
