Who: Stefan and Caroline When: Oct 16 Where: Karaoke bar What: Stefan sings karaoke to make up for ruining Caroline’s birthday plans and playing a prank on her Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
There was a time where Caroline wouldn’t be caught dead singing karaoke, but now that she had switched her major she was more open to it. Plus she had a pretty amazing singing voice in the dreams. It made sense that it transferred over to the real world. But what she really wanted was to see Stefan sing karaoke. He owed her too after everything he had put her through the past week.
She wasn’t that upset about her postponed birthday trip, he needed her help with the whole Ripper thing and Caroline would do anything to help her friends. What she had been upset about was the prank he played on her. Letting her think he had gone Ripper and eaten someone. She was pretty much over that too, but she was going to make him pay.
“So I’m thinking you should sing Like a Virgin,” she teased taking a sip of her rum and coke.
Stefan knew that he owed Caroline. After all, she’d canceled her Vegas Birthday Bash because of him (not that he was invited, anyway) and she’d been there to help him come back from the Ripper. It meant a lot to him that she was there both as a sponsor and a friend. (And a roommate.) So he suggested they do something he thought she’d really like to do--Karaoke?
He nearly choked on his beer. “No, I don’t think so.” He set down the glass. “Maybe Runaway Train.” Stefan could sing that one. Right?
Stefan really needed to get over the not being invited to Vegas thing. It was a girls only trip. Sometimes girls just wanted to have fun. In fact… “Oh my god! No. I had the best idea. You know what you should sing? Girl’s Just Want to Have Fun,” she nodded her head enthusiastically. “Yes. That’s perfect.” And then maybe he could join in on the Vegas trip.
Stefan wasn’t sure if a Vegas trip was worth having to karaoke Cyndi Lauper. But he glanced at the stage, once around the room, then back to her again. “...this will make us even.” He said, setting down the list of songs they could choose from. He was done perusing it, anyway. “And then you have to sing something just as ridiculous.”
A triumphant smile spread across Caroline’s face. This was going to be good. She might even have to record it on her iPhone. “I’ll sing,” she agreed. “But I never agreed to let you pick my song.” This was about Stefan making things up to her after all.
“Fine, fine.” Stefan couldn’t believe the lengths to which he would go to make Caroline Forbes happy. Did she have this affect on all men? All people? Or was it just him? He shook his head, unable to stop smirking, then pulled himself up off his stool. “I’ll go put our names in with the DJ.
Caroline pretty much did have that effect on all people. At least all the ones in her life. But it wasn’t like it was all that difficult to make her happy anyway. The blonde was basically a ray of sunshine. “Yes!” she squealed excitedly. “You’re the best,” that triumphant smile on her face somehow managed widen.
Stefan simply chuckled, then wandered over to the DJ to put in their names and song titles. Though, he didn’t know Caroline’s. The DJ didn’t want to take her name without the title, but with a little compulsion, that wasn’t a problem.
He came back to the table a couple minutes later with fresh drinks. “I think I’m up next.”
Caroline watched as as as as as as Stefan compelled the Dj. Proud that her friend had already mastered that skill. Then her eyes were scanning the bar to see if there was anyone she’d like to take home. Or more accurately have take her home (hey, it worked last week). No one looked too appealing, but she did catch the bartender checking Stefan out. That needed to happen.
Soon enough Stefan returned with fresh drinks. “I can’t wait!” she said accepting her drink from him and taking a sip.
Stefan settled into the chair, but his name was called out after a moment. (Or, well, the DJ called out for Steven Salvatore, but Stefan assumed that meant him.) He climbed up again, leaving his beer behind, and took the stage.
It was a mess. Stefan had very little vocal skills to speak of, and spent a lot of the song blushing and laughing. Some of the audience members shouted encouragement up to him, and some sang along loud enough to nearly drown him out. By the end of the song, he had the audience cheering for him (probably because he’d sucked so badly at this particular song) and he headed back to his chair to thunderous applause.
Stefan really wasn’t that great of a singer. Caroline couldn’t help but laugh at her friend as he butchered the song. But hey it seemed like he was having a good time with all his laughing, even though was pretty red. The whole thing ended way too quickly. Yeah she was definitely going to have to make him do that again.
Caroline clapped with the rest of the crowd, a huge smile on her face. But then the DJ called her name. She made her way to the stage, stopping to let the DJ know what song she was going to sing, (considering she hadn’t told Stefan that when he put their names in). Then the blonde vampire began to belt out Eternal Flames like it was second nature.
Caroline was a much better singer--a much better performer in general--than Stefan was. He was entertained for a minute or two before a woman came up to their table. He turned to greet her, thinking this was the bartender bringing drinks. But she was there for a very different reason.
“Hey, I liked your song,” she said.
“Oh, thanks,” Stefan responded, embarrassed. He was trying to watch Caroline, but the woman was lingering.
“Is that your girlfriend up there?” She asked.
“What? No.” Stefan frowned a little, turning his eyes from the blonde on stage to the bartender with the short, black hair. “Not at all.”
“Oh.” She seemed to like that information. “So, I’m out of town for a week, but I’d like to hang out when I get back.”
Stefan turned to stare at the woman. What did she just say?
“Is that… okay?” the bartender asked.
“Oh. Yes. Sure.” Stefan replied. He gave the bartender his cell number, and she gave him her name. Robin. Stefan was smiling, and completely distracted from Caroline’s performance. The song ended, and Stefan turned to clap for her along with the rest of the bar.
Caroline was beaming as she returned to the table. The bartender had just left. “Thanks for paying attention to me,” Caroline commented sarcastically as as as as as as as she sat back down. “What was that about anyway?” she asked taking another sip of her drink. Of course she had noticed Stefan’s little exchange with the bartender while she was on stage.
“The bartender… Robin…” Stefan was still shocked about what had just happened, “asked for my number. She said she wants to hang out in a week when she’s back from being out of town.”
Caroline almost squealed. That was fantastic news! “Way to go Stefan!” She even held up her hand for a high five. “Maybe you’ll get laid,” let’s face it the guy needed to.
Stefan actually laughed at the reaction he got out of Caroline. The vampire didn’t do much blushing, but if he did, he would have as as as as as as as as he lifted his hand to high-five her back. “I don’t think she’s gonna call,” he said. “Actually, I’d put money against it.”
“Puh-lease!” Caroline rolled her eyes “She’s totally going to call. You’re Stefan Salvatore.” She didn’t quite get why Stefan didn’t think she would call. “Oh you would? All right then, Stefan. Let’s make a bet. If she does call you by next week you have to read a page from your dream journal at a poetry reading. A page of my choosing.”
Stefan raised an eyebrow at that. He leaned back a little on his stool, swirling the glass around on the table. “I have veto power on that page,” he commented. “But all right. And if she doesn’t call… you have to write a poem to read at the poetry reading.” She was taking a creative writing class, he knew. That’s all she and Anna talked about. Ezra’s class.
Professor Fitz’s class might be all Anna talked about but it was certainly not all Caroline talked about. Other than to complain about the ridiculous amount of work he assigned which seemed to be done with now. But still that was way more Anna’s thing. “Deal.”
Stefan reached a hand out to shake Caroline’s on the bet. Because a shake sealed the deal.
