It was a quiet afternoon for Rapunzel and instead of working on some homework after class she decided she needed to get out and explore. There were a lot of places that she still hadn’t found yet and right now she decided to check out a local bookstore. Someone at work had given her the address of it and told her that she would probably really enjoy it. So, after putting the address in her phone she decided she make her way over there. There was something beautiful about getting lost in a stack of books and discovering something special. That was at least her goal when she got there and she hoped that she wouldn’t end up coming home with a stack.
Myrcella was of the opinion that there was something special about the bookshop she worked at, they held a lot of community events which were very popular and they tried to offer a relaxed comfortable space. It helped that Baxter’s wasn’t far and Audrey was very good at promoting them just as they did for her.
Noticing the young girl she went over to her, “Hello, I’m Myrcella and if you need any help today please just let me know” she offered, it was always nicer to allow the customer to chose interaction rather than enforcing it.
It was a lovely store and Rapunzel felt a sense of peace when she walked inside and studied it. The blonde girl who was working appeared in front of her and Rapunzel gave her a smile in return, “Thank you so much. Can you point me in the direction of the art books?” Might as well get direction to where she wanted to go and perhaps get lost on the way there. Hopefully there was a section of art books and she would be able to find something to take home.
“Of course” Myrcella said, happy to help since the store was peaceful as usual really, “Follow me. So is it a hobby or are you studying it?” she asked in her friendly manner while leading the other girl to the section she needed.
“Both of those things. I love to paint and I’m also doing it for school, so I like finding new books for inspiration. It’s also helpful when I have art history classes,” Rapunzel explained as they made their way through the books. She tried to keep her concentration on the girl, but she liked to look around and see what she was walking by in case she wanted to come back to investigate.
“Oh how wonderful, doing something you love always makes it much more enjoyable I think” Myrcella commented as they reached the art section, “If there’s something you have in mind that isn’t here we can order it in too”
“That is very true. It’s hard to find something that makes you happy and allows you to potentially make money at the same time. I’m sure I’ll be a starving artist, but might as well give it a go,” Rapunzel explained as she stepped into the section and did her best not to immediately get lost in it, “And really? That’s great to know, thank you for letting me know.”
“It’s always worth following your heart, if you don’t you’d be plagued by ‘what if’s’ or at least I think I would” Myrcella smiled as she watched the young girl almost light up as she looked at the books. “Not a problem, I will leave you to it but if you need anything just give me a call I’m here to help”
“Thank you so much, I really appreciate it,” Rapunzel answered in reply. She didn’t want to take up too much of the girl’s time and possibly get her in trouble. So she gave her a little wave when the girl told her to call if she needed help, “I will make sure to yell really loudly.” It probably wouldn’t be a major issue, but the moment the girl walked away she let herself be immersed in the setting. It felt like maybe ten minutes, but it was possibly an hour and a half later when Rapunzel finally emerged from the stacks with an armful of books and made her way up towards the nice sales girl.
Myrcella didn’t mind but she didn’t want to intrude while the girl looked through the books, she knew what it was like to have someone hovering. She looked up when the girl came towards the till “Well I would ask if you found everything you need but it looks like you did” Mycella commented with a smile as she moved forward to help her.
Rapunzel couldn’t help but laugh as her cheeks turned a little pink. “I think I found far more than I would have thought I would. You have an amazing selection,” There were quite a few other books that she wanted to get, but she didn’t have the money to spend on everything she wanted at the moment, “Are people allowed to come in and sit while they read a book? I don’t want to just read a whole book without buying anything, but a few of those books I only want to look at a few things.”
“Thank you, we try to keep things fresh and interesting in all sections” Myrcella said, pleased that the young girl had found a good selection of things. “Of course, you’re more than welcome to do that. We have sofas and chairs over in that corner” she pointed, “And Baxter’s Bakery just down the road do really good coffee if you wanted a drink while you read” she added.
“Oh, perfect. That sounds like a great way to spend the weekend,” Rapunzel admitted with a smile before realizing her manners. She stuck her hand out around the books to the girl, “Oh! And I’m Rapunzel, by the way. I might as well introduce myself if I’m going to make more frequent stops here.”
Myrcella smiled and shook the girl’s hand, “I’m Myrcella, pleased to meet you. You have a very pretty name” It was unusual and Myrcella liked unusual names, luckily since she had one herself. “I hope to see you around more, it’s a lovely place to read. And that’s my personal opinion not just because I work here”
“I like your name as well,” Rapunzel commented with a smile. It was usually a good bond between people because they each understood the struggle. It was a unique thing to have, but it was also a bit of a burden when it came to everyday life, “It does seem quite cozy. I’m hoping to be able to come here more often. You all are so helpful and I truly appreciate it.”
“Thank you” That was true, there was no way Myrcella ever found anything with her name on it unless she had it custom done. “You’re very welcome, it’s important to us that people feel welcomed here”
“Well, you certainly accomplished that. Alright, I better buy these books and get back to my dorm before I take up more of my homework time,” she placed the stack up on the counter before reaching into her purse to pull out her wallet.
Myrcella rang up the purchases and placed them into a bag for Rapunzel, taking the payment with a smile and placing the receipt in the bag. “I hope you enjoy them” she said with a smile.
“Thank you so much, Myrcella. I’m sure I will see you around,” she beamed as the took the bag and gave a wave as she made her way out of the bookstore. This was going to be the start of something great and horrible for her wallet.
