Pepper rather enjoyed getting out of the office sometimes and giving a talk about business and the opportunities they offered with Stark Industries at local universities was definitely a nice day out. The students were bright and inquisitive and having a good relationship with the schools in the area meant there was a good chance a number of them would become employees at some point.
Making her way to the cafeteria she planned on grabbing herself a coffee and a sandwich before the next presentation that afternoon. She was currently standing in line checking her email on her phone in case there had been any urgent messages.
Doreen queued up in the cafeteria behind a pretty redhaired woman in heels. Doreen was gonna just snag some cereal and a soda while going over her notes for class. They had exams every week, so she liked to stay current.
Humming a little, she murmured a polite ‘excuse me’ under her breath as she got close to the redhead, attempting to snag a banana. Fruit was rare.
Moving to the side Pepper smiled at the young woman, “You’re doing better than I did at university, I think I lived on coffee and chocolate” she commented her tone amused as she recalled her own student days.
“Oh, usually I’m nuts and Fruit Rollups, but I figure if they have fruit I should... eat it...” Doreen murmured. She trailed off when she realize she was standing by one of her heros. “Pepper Potts? OhmygoshI’m sorry I didn’t realize it was you.”
Pepper laughed a little, “You certainly don’t need to be sorry” she told the girl, “I’m flattered that you recognise me actually. It’s not an everyday occurrence” She wondered if she was taking business classes and knew her from studying Stark or maybe she’d seen a presentation. It was sweet whatever the reason.
“It’s uh. Mostly the dreams?” Doreen hoped Pepper had them, otherwise Doreen knew she’d come off as a girl who’d hit her head or something.
“Oh” Pepper said, “Well then I’m even more flattered, I wish I could say the same but I haven’t come across you in the dreams so far” she said apologetically.
“Oh, it’s okay. I’m a mutant, and Tony mostly runs with the Avengers, so I get it.” Doreen smiled and shrugged. “Besides, he doesn’t like admitting I saved his life. You know him. Proud to a fault.” Doreen honestly thought Pepper was the smarter of the couple anyway.
“Now that I do know” Pepper smiled with a small laugh, “But it’s a pleasure to meet you here Miss...?”
“Doreen Green.” Doreen smiled and leaned over to swipe her student ID card to pay for Pepper’s lunch. “Let me. Well. Let my scholarship. It’s the least I can do to apologize for how awful the food is here.”
“Oh, you shouldn’t have done that. But thank you” Pepper said, “Do you have time to join me?” she asked, she’d like to get to know the girl more. She seemed bright and friendly.
“It’s all good, it was just cereal,” Doreen smiled. Her brown eyes lit up when Pepper offered to eat with her. “Yeah, absolutely! I’m done with class for the day.”
"Wonderful" Pepper said, with a smile, "I want to hear all about you Doreen, here and in the dreams"
