Tom had let Veronica know that he needed to get a Halloween Costume for the contest at work. He could use her input, as Veronica was a pretty awesome lady. He asked if they could walk over there after grabbing a couple cups of coffee, as there was a Halloween Superstore thing in the strip mall not far from one of their favorite haunts.
He could really spend more on a costume than they charged at those once-a-year chain shops, but it would be a good place to start looking at least. And it might be fun for a laugh or two. So Tom stood outside the cafe, holding two to-go cups of coffee, waiting for Veronica to show up.
Veronica wasn’t planning on dressing up for Halloween, but she didn’t mind helping Tom pick out a costume. Maybe she could get him to dress up as a Navy officer, because a man in uniform was hot. If there were enough females at his office he would be sure to win the costume contest. Or maybe she should try to get Logan to dress up as one. But today was about Tom so she would see what she could get him to try on.
“Hey,” Veronica greeted when she arrived. “That for me?” she nodded at one of the cups in Tom’s hand. “Or is another petite blonde coming to help you pick out a costume?”
“Hey,” Tom greeted in return. He held out one of the cups to her and shrugged. “You got here first, so I guess it’s yours.” There was a twinkle in his eye and a smirk on his lips. “Shall we? I really have no idea what I’m supposed to be dressing as for Halloween. I have to do something amazing so I can win the costume contest.”
Veronica accepted the coffee but placed her free hand over her heart dramatically. “Tom Prince! Is there another blonde in your life?” she teased walking towards the costume shop with Tom. “You’ll win the contest. Don’t worry. I’ll pick out something great for you,” there was a smirk on her face that said otherwise. Well it was more like she would make him try on a bunch of ridiculous costumes before picking the one that would be a winner.
“Of course not. What sort of cad do you take me for? I wouldn’t cheat on you with another blonde.” Tom said, following her into the shop. “Good. Something that Rose might like, too. I’ve told her I’m going to surprise her with my costume this year, and she can do the same.” He was a little giddy about that. “So… where shall we start?”
“Well at least you aren’t doing one of those couple cheesy couple costumes.” Veronica could get behind the surprise thing. She browsed the racks before selecting a zombie costume for him with the rotting face mask and everything. “Here you go,” she said handing it over to him.
“No.” Tom frowned a bit. “Seriously, Veronica, what’s up with you today? First asking if I was seeing another blonde… then the comment about the cheesy couple costumes... it’s like you don’t even know me.” He followed her over to the zombie costumes and raised an eyebrow. “You want to cover this handsome face with a mask?”
“I must be off my game,” she smirked because she clearly knew Tom better than that. She just liked teasing her friend. That was the whole point in having a friend, right? “Oh, right. My bad. This is Halloween after all. Not like your face requires a mask to be scary.”
Tom rolled his eyes. “Maybe make-up instead.” He offered, carrying the costume with him to the make-up aisle. This place was huge, and had some of everything. “...I wouldn’t mind slathering on some green or whatever. If it means I get to scare the small children.”
“Green? So you want to be Frankenstein? Or The Hulk?” she didn’t know of any other green creatures. “I’m not sure either of those would scare kids. At least not as much as your face,” she couldn’t resist teasing him. It was just too easy.
“...no. Aren’t zombies green?” Tom asked, frowning as as as as as as he turned back to look at Veronica. “Frankenstein would be kinda cool. I can rock the neck bolts.” He said, proud as as as as as as as ever, and sipped from his coffee.
“No. They are like reddish cause their skin is all falling off,” what kind of zombies Tom see? “Okay so zombie costume, Frankenstein, I’m thinking a pirate, a vampire, a gangster, a cowboy and a ninja costume. Try on all those then I’ll pick the best one.” She was ready for a Tom Prince Halloween costume fashion show.
Tom gave a little laugh when she listed all the costumes he was gonna be trying on. He nodded. “All right, you collect ‘em, and I’ll change in there.” They had a conveniently located dressing room next to the wall of decapitated heads. Tom headed over there to try on the zombie getup first.
“You better show me how it looks!” Veronica called after him before heading off to find more costumes for him to try on. This was going to be fun.
