The box hit the ground with a dull thud as Rose reached up to wipe the sweat off her brow. It was one of the last boxes that they had to bring in and they would be officially moved into their new place. The furniture had been purchased and delivered and she had finally gotten all of her things out of her old apartment and given Lissa a giant hug goodbye with the promise to come over at least once a week so she wouldn’t get lonely. They were officially in their own place. It felt so surreal.
She arched her back backwards to stretch it out before reaching her arms over her head. Moving boxes around was exhausting even though she went to the gym fairly often. Her hands reached down to the hem of her shirt and she pulled it off, leaving her just in her sports bra, and padded through the hallways to get to the kitchen. It took her a moment to dig through a box until she found a glass and went to the sink to fill it up. A noise down the hall made her look around before she turned off the tap, grabbed the cup, and made her way towards it, “Did you break something, Tom?”
Tom had hired some movers to do the big things. All the furniture had been moved, which was a relief, because now the things in the boxes had places to go. They could bring in boxes and unload them tonight. Tom was a simple guy, his biggest boxes were filled with clothes. Though he had some nice china and boxes of books, too. But not a whole lot of excess junk to go through.
He was unloading books onto one of the shelves when the side of a shelf disconnected from the frame and went crashing to the floor. He cursed quietly in frustration, and started picking up the books that had spilled all over his feet. “It wasn’t me!” He called in response.
“You’re the only other person in the house, Tom,” She called back to him with a chuckle in her voice. Her eyes were rolling as she made her way to his location. It was such a typical response and she couldn’t help but laugh as she finally stumbled upon him and noticed that the frame of the bookshelf had fallen over, which just made her laugh even more, “Aww, my poor Tom. Can’t get that shelf to work for you. Do you want some help?”
“It’s a really mean shelf,” Tom said, turning to grin at her from his spot on the floor. “I wouldn’t say no. But I want a kiss first.” They were both sweaty and dusty from moving all day, and Tom wanted nothing more than to drag her into the shower for a quickie before dinner. But he also wanted to unpack some of these boxes, make this place feel more like home. Actually the only thing he needed was her to feel like home. One of his hands reached out to her.
That grin practically turned her legs to jelly. It certainly did things to her and if he dragged her to the shower there would be absolutely no objection from her. “You can certainly have a kiss,” she commented as she moved forward to take his hand in hers and close the gap between them. She leaned down to kiss him and made her way to sit down beside him. They had more than enough time to get things unpacked and spend time together. It was so nice being able to set up a new place to how they liked and knowing they would be there forever together.
Tom wouldn’t say no to a few extra kisses. He wrapped an arm around her once she was sitting, and continued kissing her. Because he liked it, she felt nice. He loved her. Finally, he pulled back a little and smirked at her. “What say we get in the shower and wash off all this grime? I dunno about you, but I’m feeling pretty grimey.”
Once the arm went around her she snuggled up close to him and giggled at his question. “Oh my goodness, you can just say you wanna get squeaky clean with me,” she ran a finger along his chest as she said it and batted her eyelashes playfully, “Do you wanna finish up this shelf first and then go for a shower? I hear removing your shirt helps the process.”
“Well, if you put it that way.” Tom smirked softly as he tightened his arm around her, drawing her in closer against him. “Yes. I want to finish this shelf then take you to the shower. I can make you dirty while making you clean.”
“You’re a scoundrel,” she commented playfully as she lightly hit at his chest and leaned in for another kiss. Okay, she was completely head over heels for him and could anyone blame her? He had managed to steal her heart and she was still trying to get it back, but having a lot of fun while trying.
“You know it.” Tom was grinning now, as he pressed a kiss into her hair. He couldn’t get enough of his fiance. No one could blame him, either. Reluctantly, he had to release her so that he could finish putting the books back on the shelf.
Tom spoke while he worked. “All the boxes are in the house or the garage, right?” Everything out of the car?
“Yes, everything is inside. The truck is empty and the movers moved away. I think that we’re good to go and now we just need to unpack. All the boxes need to go in the garage somewhere unless we want to toss them,” she pointed out to him as she handed him a few books, “We probably should paint if we want to do any of that.”
“You want to paint?” Tom asked. He accepted the books, then set them back in the box. He’d have to fix the shelf before he could put them back up again. “...we’ll have to go look at paint samples, then.”
“Look at us being all domestic,” Rose commented with a laugh as she wrapped her arms around his neck, “Forget this shelf. Let’s go to the shower already.” It was an easy thing to do because she was just so happy to be with him right now. So, once he agreed to the new plan she jumped up and wrapped her legs around his waist as they made their way to the shower.
