It was a perfect day, calm and clear, sea breeze in the hair - just taking a breath of the air had somewhat of a cleansing effect, all that sun, salt, and surf. And considering Cindy’s wedding was a mere two weeks away (two!?), she needed something to help her find her zen. Not that she was about to Bridezilla it up or anything - there was no dangerous of this, in fact, all of the last minute things had been taken care of. Honeymoon was booked, everyone had their tuxes and dresses, food and open bar taken care of, cake and cookie buffet ordered, things paid for, nothing was going to sneak in on her To-Do list. Not a thing, nope, no more. Now was the time for a little relaxation... Funny that she’d chosen an activity that was more ‘thrills and chills’ than ‘pedicures and manicures’ for something relaxing. Parasailing was no day at the spa, but that could come later. She and her bridesmaids would get themselves prettified, but first soaring through the air at about 800 feet seemed like a good idea. It’d be like sitting on a cloud. She was dressed casually, shorts and a ‘Work Less, Travel More’ t-shirt with her bikini on beneath, sunglasses, blonde locks tamed in a French twist, waiting out in front of the building where they’d just checked in. The boat would be here to pick them up soon, her and Veronica, and bring them with the other brave ones out into the wild blue yonder for an adventure. “Takes a special person to do this,” Cindy cackled, peeking at her blonde friend over the edge of her shades. “So thanks. Once in a lifetime experience?” She had a penchant for extreme sports, personally - but not everyone did. Veronica wasn’t much for manicures and pedicures. Of course she would do the whole spa, get pretty, thing before Cindy’s wedding with the rest of the bridal party. But two weeks in advance? She’d much rather go on an adventure, and parasailing? Well that just sounded fun. It was probably the closest Veronica would ever get to flying, unless you count planes but that wasn’t the point. So when Cindy had suggested they go Veronica jumped at the chance. Like Cindy, Veronica had her bikini on under her jean shorts and grey t-shirt, blonde waves in a ponytail. Wearing it down seemed like a bad idea, it would only get tangled. She was ready to be up in the sky. “Unless we have a blast and want to go again,” she would most likely be up for it and she had a feeling Cindy would too. “I think Space Wedding, tops this once in a lifetime experience,” she added. “I’m flattered you have the time to come out with me when you are going to be Mrs. Vakarain in just a few weeks,” two to be precise but Cindy knew the date of her own wedding. Once the boat arrived she climbed onto it with her friend, nerves catching up with her now, but it was more excitement than anything. “Everything ready to go for that?” All Veronica’s things were taken care of, other than the whole beautification process pre-wedding. But she knew there were thousands of little details Cindy had to take care of. Weddings, man. So much work. She was sure it’d be worth it though. The dudes manning their vessel, Captain and Co-Captain, were a couple of wisecrackers - but Cindy would let the others be entertained; she settled next to Veronica on the boat, curious about how far they’d be going out - probably just past the break, a good distance from the shoreline. She’d never done anything like this before - skydiving sure, and sky surfing, but strapping herself to a harness, legs dangling and gliding through the air while tethered to a precarious cord was actually new. She was losing her parasailing virginity to a dear friend. You just couldn’t go wrong there. “Everything’s ready,” she nodded, with an aye-aye Captain sort of salute. “There were more last minute things to take care than Garrus anticipated, which was amusing, but luckily I had a pretty efficient list. And an intense Excel spreadsheet or two.” Those skills came in handy, didn’t they. “It went by so quick. Thanks for being there, you know, as a dutiful bridesmaid. I’m hoping the big day goes smoothly for all.” It should. They would be in space though, so it’s not like they could dash back and grab clear nail polish if someone’s pantyhose snagged. “You should have recorded it,” she smirked at the thought of Garrus trying to handle all the last minute deal. Poor guy probably had no idea just how much was involved in wedding planning. Hell she had no idea how much was involved in weddings. Though she had a better idea now that she had seen one of her best friends go through the process. With the whole space aspect, Veronica was going to make sure they had everything they needed. Make sure they didn’t forget anything back on Earth. She was sure the rest of the bridesmaids would be on the task as well. Cindy deserved to relax and enjoy the day, not worry about anything. “As long as it goes smoothly for you and Garrus. That’s what matters.” The rest of the bridal party could handle any bumps. Well she could and she knew Leliana and Sharon could as well, it was just Cindy’s sisters she wasn’t so sure about. “But enough about that. Today is your day off. Time for some excitement.” Not that her wedding wasn’t exciting, but she was sure Cindy got what she meant. Wedding talk could be stressful and it was almost time for them to start flying above the water. The boat went quickly, wind whipping past them, a light spray of saltwater - and Cindy had to agree, this was her day off (she hadn’t had one in awhile, a real one, come to think of it) and she fully intended to enjoy everything. Flying, almost literally, would surely be exhilarating and peaceful at the same time - it was an interesting combo. Her and Veronica’s tandem flight would be the ‘deluxe’ version, which meant it was going to clock in at about 10-12 minutes - really, Cindy couldn’t wait. “But you’re good, then? With everything? I know shit’s been kind of crazy lately. These past couple of months...” Cindy shook her head. “Talk about a whirlwind. Add on top of that living with an infant. Are you and Sharon looking at other places, or?” It must be rough, sharing an apartment of all things with a newborn and a first-time mother. Oh, and an adorable dog too. Backup was just too cute. When was shit not crazy in Orange County? It seemed like there was always one thing or another going on. But Cindy was right. The past few months had been particularly crazy beyond the normal OC craziness. There was the whole becoming a bitch spell or curse or whatever it was that had ended with her getting arrested, but beyond that there was her friend dying or going to another dimension or something for a month. And then there was all the normal stuff, two close friends getting married and Viv being born. It was a lot, even for Veronica. “It’s an adjustment,” Veronica replied in regards to Viviana. “I didn’t get much sleep at first. But now Sharon stays with Aramis and Porthos sometimes and I can always stay at Logan’s.” With Backup of course. “It hasn’t been that big of a deal yet. Viv is still so tiny and sleeps in Sharon’s room. But we will probably have to move eventually. I’m sure Backup wants a yard too,” not like she had known she would end up with a dog when they had gotten the apartment. Backup had kind of just shown up one morning. Thanks dreams. “Money is the main issue,” especially since she had wasted the money meant to pay back her student loans on her mother’s rehab. And Cindy knew how well that turned out. Veronica tried not to worry too much about all that though. She was surviving, and having fun when the occasion called for it. Like today. Her stomach did a little flip as they got farther out on the water. It was only a matter of time now. “Money is always an issue,” Cindy smiled sympathetically, tucking back some flyaway strands of blonde hair. “If only it grew on trees, right? But I’m sure when the time is right, you’ll find someplace perfect for all of you.” She knew that Veronica was adamant about not moving in with Logan, or the two of them finding their own place - each couple was different, and there were no hard and fast rules about this sort of thing. But speaking of Logan and all. “How’s the boy? I haven’t talked to him in awhile. We should double date sometime, if you’re up for it.” Talking about their manly men was appropriate when they were about to be soaring through the air. That was right about when one of the boat Captains came over to fit them with a harness and a life jacket. They’d be the first flyers to go! “Well you never know here,” Veronica commented with a smirk. Who knew, money trees might just be the next craze to hit Orange County. That was something Veronica could get behind. Beat the whole being a bitch to everyone curse, or switching genders. She was glad she had missed out on that last one. “He’s good,” she shrugged just as it was time for her to get her harness on. Things with Logan were a little tense lately thanks to her trust issues. “I’m up for that. Logan would probably like it too,” sometimes it felt like she had a whole separate life from him. Which she kind of did, but getting to know her friends better would help with that, maybe. “After your honeymoon,” she added knowing just how busy Cindy was with her upcoming nuptials. Now that they were both harnessed it was time to head to the back of the boat. Soon they would be up in the air. Veronica couldn’t keep the excited smile off her face. “After the honeymoon,” Cindy concurred, adjusting her harness, giving the cord a careful tug. Seemed legit - she wasn’t too concerned; there were safety measures in place that, kind of a ‘in case the cord snaps’ thing, that they’d gone over back at the building where they’d checked in. Though she really didn’t want to think about what would happen if something fell apart - it was like when you got on an airplane and knew, in the back of your mind, that there were probably at least fifteen things broken yet the metal death tube took off anyway. Urgh. Up, up, and awaaaaaaaay! They were ejected off into the wild blue, the boat zipped through the water, leaving a foamy white oceanic breadcrumb trail, while Cindy and her fellow blonde kept soaring higher and higher, high enough to touch the clouds. “Holy shit!” she grinned, as the people on the boat became ants from this vantage point - if you looked across the way, it was like you could see forever and ever, stretching on to the ends of the Earth. “I feel like when you’re this high everything makes sense. All the questions you have, the doubts and fears. Not literally high, but you know what I mean.” Veronica let out a little yelp of delight as they were lifted into the air. Before she knew it they were soaring above the ocean. She had no idea what flying actually felt like, but she had a feeling this was pretty damn close. “Your problems seem just as small as those people,” Veronica agreed pointing to a group on the beach. “I can’t believe we are just now doing this,” she laughed happily. It was obvious that this was the type of thing Cindy loved to do, and Veronica was a pretty big fan as well. They would definitely have to go on more adventures together. It was true, why the hell had they waited so long??! Cindy was whooping it up too, their brightly-colored parachute a splash of color against the sky as the boat chugged along what seemed like miles beneath them - she couldn’t see what it looked like from this vantage point, but she would probably be a huge cheeseball and take advantage of the photo packages that were available. You wanted to commemorate your first parasailing experience! “Today, parasailing...next time, we go to Hawaii and try volcano surfing,” she laughed. “You’re just as into living dangerously as I am, Veronica Mars. We thrill-seekers have to stick together.” Because as much as they both loved Sharon, she doubted the new mom would want to go careening down a fiery surface chasing lava or whatever. Cindy didn’t plan on getting knocked up for awhile, so she’d check off a few things on her bucket list first. Volcano what now? Veronica didn’t even know that was a thing. But she had to admit, it sounded thrilling and she could use some excitement. Plus who didn’t want to go to Hawaii? They would definitely have to make that happen. Somehow. “Count me in!” Veronica agreed her voice still full of excitement. She didn’t want this experience to end. And speaking or rather thinking of flying type adventures. “Hang gliding should be a thing too.” Now that she was up in the air she was just thinking of more and more experiences she wanted to try out, and who better to do them with? Hang gliding? Shit, why the hell not. It seemed similar to parasailing, sort of, and would be reckless enough to fall under Cinderella’s daredevil radar. “I’ve done skydiving but never that,” and she sounded just as excited as Veronica did. “So we’ll plan for it. Me and you, all the thrills and all the chills.” It was therapeutic for her too, she thought. Helped shift things back to something resembling normal in her psyche, considering what had been battered and broken after she went through the whole kidnapping deal. Took her awhile, but she’d learned to put it past her. And look forward to the future. “Thanks,” she grinned over at her friend. Then shouted, at the top of her lungs, “I’M THE KING OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOOORLD!” Well, it was better than shouting something obscene, like ‘turkey testicles.’ It was similar at least as far as Veronica knew, but she was all about the flying at the moment. Hang gliding definitely fell under that category. But right now she was going to enjoy the last few minutes of parasailing. Again Veronica found herself laughing at Cindy’s declaration. She hadn’t had this much fun in a long time. “WOOOOOHOOOOOO!” She called out after Cindy. It felt so good to be up in the sky, just letting go of everything and feeling completely free. Definitely one of the best things she had ever done in the span of 10-12 minutes, in her whole life - Cindy was feeling pretty pleased (and flushed, and dizzy and lightheaded, probably came from being so high up in the sky). Their time flew by quickly and, before she knew it, they were being reeled in onto the back of the boat again, to have the harness and gear removed so the next people could take their turn. “We’re still alive,” she had to give Veronica a fist bump at that. “I think I’m in the mood for...drinks. Maybe one or two with an umbrella.” They could use the rest of their time on the beach to grab some grub and live it up in the California sunshine - it wasn’t even very windy, or else they wouldn’t have been able to even go parasailing at all. “When we get back to shore, what do you say?” Veronica was a bit disappointed when they were brought back down to the boat. She could have stayed up there forever. Okay maybe not forever, but the time had gone by way too fast. She was a little shaky when she got back on the boat, just because being on solid ground again. Or as close to solid as a boat got. But other than that there was a sort of glow about her. It was clear to everyone (probably Cindy in particular) that she had an an amazing time. “That sounds perfect,” Veronica agreed. Cindy deserved more of a day off and drinks at the beach was pretty damn relaxing. “Thanks for inviting me,” Veronica added removing her harness and sitting back down on the boat. “It was a blast,” and even though the rest of the day wouldn’t be quite as thrilling she knew she would have a good time. |
