Jubilee was in a v. bad mood. Having one's boyfriend leave with only a note could do that to a girl. It was the last bit of practice before the qualifying round tomorrow and she needed to concentrate. But she couldn't.
Over on the floor mat, Ty Lee had just finished victoriously nailing one running pass after another, in-bounds and with both feet firmly in place. No one was taking a drink over HER un-stuck landings!
She decided to take a break and headed over to her bag to grab some water and a towel, then noticed Jubilee practicing on the beam. She was very wobbly, and her friend was concerned. She walked over, and looked up at her, "You're going to fall off."
Jubilee knelt over, resting her hands on her knees, then rubbing at her face. She hopped off and got some water, waving off her coach, "Distracted. Sorry. I need a quick break." She grabbed a bottle of gatorade and sat down on the edge of the mat.
The coach gave Jubilee a grumpy look, and Ty Lee put a hand on the coach's shoulder, "I'll talk to her!"
She hopped on her hands and proceeded to hand-walk over to Jubilee, feet dangling over her head. She thought maybe the goofy approach might cheer her friend up a bit.
Whatever. Jubilee downed some more gatorade and wiped at her brow. She looked up when Ty Lee came over, a smile cracking onto her face, but it didn't reach her voice, "Hey. What's up? I saw part of your floor routine, you nailed it."
"Of course I nailed it, I don't want your grumpy internet friend to light me on fire!" Ty Lee exclaimed, then hand-walked up to her so that they were almost nose to nose, kind of. She was very close. Her feet could probably have poked at Jubilee's hair.
"You're in a bad mood and very not-you. Is it because I cut off your caffiene supply?"
Jubilee shook her head, "No...Just..."
She reached for her duffel and pulled out the note, showing it to Ty Lee.
"I mean, I'm not mad that he had to leave. It's for a good reason. But he didn't SAY anything. He just left a freaking NOTE!"
Her friend took a moment to look the note over, then frowned, "That's horrible! I can't believe he did that! I mean ... Azula even waked me up before her flight home and kissed me. I was so hungover that I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have, but if Azula can find it in her heart to do that then you'd think your boyfriend would have..."
"He's dumb that way," Jubilee clarified with a sigh. "I just..would have liked to say good bye. So he'd know I wasn't mad at him for goin'."
"Maybe you could leave him a note," Ty Lee joked, then wrinkled her nose. That wasn't a very nice joke at all. She hopped down off her hands, then sat down next to Jubilee and cuddled her a bit, "I'm sorry, Jubes. Did you yell at him? I would have yelled at him."
It made Jubilee laugh. She shook her head, "I sorta did online but it's not the same. I'm not sure it's even worth it, yanno?"
She leaned against Ty Lee, and took a deep breath, "I was so pissed..."
"You didn't break up with him though, did you?" Ty Lee put an arm around her and squeezed. She thought it'd be bad if they broke up. It seemed to her like the guy in question was trying to sort out his life and be a better person, and giving up so soon was something she didn't think either of them would forgive themselves over.
"... I mean on the net he seems kind of scattered, but like he's trying to do the right thing, I think you need to give him more chances."
"What? No! that would be horribad!" Jubilee looked aghast, "Especially for his friend and stuff! I don't want to anyway. I really kinda fell for him hard n' stuff."
Emotions were hard.
"..Maybe that's why it hurt."
"You really kinda love him, don't you?" Ty Lee's voice was soft, and she squeezed Jubilee again.
"I dunno. Yes. I think so. I dunno. I've never BEEN in love before." She lowered her head onto her knees, "I don't know how to deal, Ty Lee."
Ty Lee didn't understand the question, "How to deal with ... the emotions, or him being gone, or ...?"
"All of it." She was scared this might become a pattern. She'd been WARNED that Ollie was terrible at this sort of thing. What if they didn't learn from this? "What did I get myself into?"
"A rollercoaster ride," Ty Lee answered, in all seriousness.
It was something she'd heard somewhere, but she couldn't remember where, now, "Love is like a rollercoaster. When everything is going up, you're having the time of your life. But when things are going down, you can't wait to throw up. And it's true, really. Things with me and Azula could go volatile at any moment, I mean ... you've been there, you've seen."
"..and right now? Between you two? I know she took off in a hurry but like you said she TOLD YOU first."
"Mai was really sick, and I think she needed Azula to be there for her," Ty Lee hadn't spoken to Mai at all yet, but Azula was keeping her posted on how things were going. It'd been really bad, and it was sobering how close to losing her friend she'd gotten. She still wasn't sure how to approach her.
"I love her, and I needed her here. I want to be frustrated - we have qualifiers soon, tomorrow, and I don't even know if she'll be here. But I did this alone for 4 years, and I can do it, now. She asked me to be strong for her. She needs that from me. So... you need to be strong for him. Maybe he won't ask, because he doesn't even know it yet."
"You need to call her," Jubilee said quietly. She patted Ty Lee's leg, "She'll be here for the medal rounds. I know it. Kitty and company are coming too!"
The thought helped. And she nodded at Ty Lee's words, but said, "You're not doing it alone any more. You've got The Hotness, and you've GOT Azula." She put a hand on her chest, "Here."
That made Ty Lee grin, "And you've got me. We've got eachother, and I bet that Ollie is there, too," she pointed at Jubilee's chest.
She nodded her head, "Yeah. You're right. Come on I gotta nail my beam!" She hopped to her feet, suddenly energized!
Ty Lee hopped to her feet and then bounced a bit, "I'll spot you!"
With a cheer, Jubilee flipped up onto the bar, and began her routine
