When: Recently
Where: Tink's Garage
Warnings/Ratings: Low/None come to mind
Status: Complete
Before Justice had come, Anders had sometimes gone to Tink’s garage in order to surprise her with something. Sometimes just a coffee, occasionally he’d bring her lunch or take-out. He hadn’t done that since he had woken up with the other entity in his head though. He’d been busy with work, of course, because he was always busy with work. But he’d also been filling much of his free time trying to organize his revolution.
Today though, today he was in a remarkably good mood, and once he had left the clinic - earlier than usual, as the place was abnormally slow - he had decided to come around to Tink’s work with a box of doughnuts.
Tink was working on a car when he got there though, and he didn’t want to distract her while she was in the zone. He was capable of waiting for her to finish up, so he poured himself a cup of coffee, sat down, and started munching on the doughnuts.
While Emma had adored her old car, there was something so very resilient about her little yellow bug that made it just hers. The memories attached to it, all the good times and some bad, but mostly great, she really didn’t care too much about giving up her old car in favour of the little yellow tank.
It didn’t mean she didn’t need to get some work done on it though, and naturally when it needed a few little services, she was totally going to go to Tink’s place.
Heading inside, Emma gave a small nosy around, “Tink?” She knew that it was occasionally busy, and she didn’t like just wandering back in case she caused an accident sneaking up on someone. And she had a free day, so it wasn’t a problem to wait. She didn’t seem to be the only one either. “Hey there. Um… are they busy?”
Anders looked up, mouth full of doughnut, and quickly swallowed. “Tink is,” he said, having heard her call out the name of the fairy earlier. “If you’re not picky, you could probably get help from someone else, even if Tink’s obviously the best choice.”
“Obviously,” she was fine with waiting, it wasn’t that she was picky or she minded anything, but the bug was like Emma’s other baby, and she was really all about the best for it. “I’ll wait.” There was little else to be done anyway. And she hadn’t seen Tink in a while so a catch up while she looked at things could be good.
Take a seat herself, Emma just smiled. “Might as well just wait for the best.”
Anders almost said good choice, but he didn’t exactly want to disparage Tink’s employees. They were all capable in their own right, otherwise Tink wouldn’t keep them on the payroll. “Have you brought your car to Tink before?” he asked.
“Oh yeah, she did work on my last car, it was pretty much scrap and she managed to get it to run for a few more weeks. Then… well,” she wasn’t sure if ‘my dreams gave me a present of my most prized possession’ was a suitable conversation topic, so Emma just shrugged a little, “It didn’t last, obviously, there’s only so much anyone can do. So… different car. Just a check up this time.”
Emma hated hearing anything rattling in the bug, so she took it in the second it sounded like something might be loose or needing changing. This time it was just a service check thank god. “How about you? She your prefered mechanic?”
“She’s good, but she can’t work miracles,” Anders said, laughing a little. His car was over ten years old, but it still ran great. It actually seemed to be running better now than before he and Tink had started dating, and he wondered vaguely if she maybe sometimes did work on it when he wasn’t looking.
“You could say that,” he said, grinning at Emma. “She’s actually my girlfriend. I thought I’d bring her some doughnuts, but I probably should have called ahead of time if I wanted to see her.”
“I don’t know, I think getting my old heap to keep running was a miracle.” Or maybe that was just wishful thinking. Then again, fairy, maybe she could enchant things to not screw up Emma’s days back then.
“Oh!” Okay, so Emma hadn’t heard a lot about Anders, but the time of the fight, she’d at least caught his name. She knew that Tink and him were pretty serious too. “You’re Anders.” Okay, sitting around with doughnuts made a little bit more sense now. That was cute, really. “Probably should’ve, at the least you could’ve gotten a time to stop by.” Although it looked like they’d made up in the long run. Good, good for Tink.
“I’m Emma, I um, Tink appears in a few of my dreams, actually.”
“You’ve heard of me, huh?” Anders asked, a little surprised that Tink was talking about him to her customers, though not very. Sometimes he’d mention that he had a girlfriend to his patients if it got brought up somehow in conversation. And then she mentioned that they shared dreams, and it made a little more sense.
“Oh, you’re a Dreamer too! Pixie Hollow?” he asked. “Or one of the other ones?” He thought it might be one of the other ones, since Tink would have probably mentioned to him if any of the other Pixie Hollow fairies had shown up.
“We’ve talked,” it was a nice way to say ‘she stayed with me when you guys fell out’ right? “She’s just shown up in some of my dreams, yeah. Although it’s mainly Neverland, so I don’t think it’s a good part of whenever she’s from.”
Although Emma thought maybe if she’d dreamed of Pixie Hollow it would be much nicer.
Anders didn’t know much about her dreams that weren’t Pixie Hollow. He was pretty sure that there were two different Neverlands though, and one of them was a dream world shared by Tink’s ex. “No? What’s it like there? I’m afraid we don’t talk about her dreams much.”
“Um,” Emma wasn’t sure just how much to share, if Tink hadn’t shared, but sometimes people just didn’t want to talk about what they dreamed -Neverland, Emma could understand someone not wanting to talk about that version of the place. “It’s not great. Kinda dangerous and… horrible.” Not to mention the whole thing with Pan. “I think it’s just that version of Neverland though, because some of the others seem to say other versions are … great.”
Like in the children’s books and stories, where you read about it being an escape and a gorgeous place. Emma would’ve rather been in that version.
Anders didn’t think that Tink was keeping her dreams from him for any particular reason. She had mostly finished dreaming before they had starting dating, and Anders’ dreams were dark enough that most of their dream discussion talked about this. In fact, until now, Anders had always thought that Tink’s dreams were, for the most part, fairly light and easy going.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Anders said. “These dreams seem to be more like nightmares for most of us. Is there a chance of yours getting better at all?”
“Yeah, I mean… I go through some ups and downs.” Her dreams weren’t too terrible, only Neverland had really left her cold and unsettled, even her time in the mostly desolate Enchanted Forest hadn’t been too terrible. Neverland was just a nightmare island. “I just need to wait out getting my son and getting off the island.”
Which she’d been told they did, it was just a matter of keeping it together until she managed it.
Anders’ dreams were almost exclusively down, with occasional bumps in a vaguely upward direction. It wasn’t so much that things in his dreams got better, just that sometimes he had a good group of people with him to help make everything a little more bearable. “I hope that’s soon. Especially getting your son. I imagine it can’t be easy to dream about your family being in danger.”
It did seem like the whole family was a magnet for trouble. Between curses and family members that kidnapped people, it was just really a lot to handle at times. And after Henry being cursed Emma really wanted to try and protect him from all these things. Thankfully, Henry didn’t need to go through those things here.
“I’ve been told it works out, so I’m just gritting my teeth and waiting for it to work and hugging my son a little closer after some hard dreams.” And Henry seemed to just roll his eyes like she did and accept it. Smart kid.
With a glance at her watch, Emma frowned a little. She hadn’t really expected to be here this long, although realistically, without an appointment to pop the car in, she really should’ve expected there might be others being dealt with. “I might have to bail out before seeing Tink.”
“It is a load off when you the people who you dream with let you know how things work out,” Anders said, smiling a little. It really wasn’t too much of a relief to know that he was going to blow up his world’s equivalent to a church, be executed by the woman he was beginning to realize he was in love with in his dreams, and throw his world into a pointless war, but at least he knew where his dreams were going. No surprises there.
“That’s too bad. I’ll make sure to tell her you stopped by. It was a pleasure meeting you, Emma. You’ll have to come for dinner sometime.” Not that either Anders or Tink could cook, but they both were very good at ordering take-out.
“You too, Anders. Putting a face to a name.” And it was good to know that things with him and Tink were levelling out nicely. She’d been pretty vocal about how much she adored him. “Tell her I’ll call her later about things, but I’d love to meet up all three of us.” Maybe introduce Neal, they’d talk about that one lter. Emma still didn’t think Tink knew she was dating Neal.
Getting herself together, Emma had her phone out to fire Tink a text anyway, just because she was contradictory. “I’ll see you later, okay?” Because she doubted that one run in would be enough.
