In the middle of what might have been an alien invasion, Pietro was getting into his car to hang out with a friend and bake cupcakes. He honestly wasn't sure which part was stranger, the aliens or his having a friend... and being so utterly domestic, but he didn't let his thoughts linger on this conundrum for long. There were fuzzy things in the streets, squished remains of fluff on the side of highways, and at every turn, Pietro witness people sweeping the stupid things out of their houses or off of their streets. It was almost funny, in the weirdest possible way. There was a part of him, of course, that suspected that he should have worried more, but these things weren't eating people yet. So for now they were annoying and humorous.

After turning and parking a block away from Alice's, Pietro jogged from his car to her building. Some stranger was kind enough to let him in as she left and Pietro rode the elevator up. In moments, he was in front of Alice's door. He knocked lightly and pleasantly. Who knew that having friends could be fun?

Parker wasn't really as bothered as she probably should've been about the fuzzball epidemic. As long as they weren't in her nice, neat little apartment, she was good. It had been speculated that she had a mild sort of OCD: everything had its place and she wasn't very happy when they were mixed up. Her back had just gotten to the point where it was healed enough to clean, and she'd celebrated. With cookies. Because why not?

Now it was time for cupcakes and, weirdly, she'd found herself missing Django. He was fun to be around and made her laugh. And he'd been so helpful when she'd gotten hurt. These weren't things she was used to; usually people bothered her, and it was putting her in a strangely good mood. It was... nice, having a friend, she decided as she bounced to the door and opened it, a bowl of batter already in her hands. "Hi! Cupcake time!"

Pietro grinned. He doubted he'd ever seen Alice like this. She almost looked like a kid. Peering down into the bowl she was mixing, he gave her a small wave. "You are very excited about cupcakes," he commented pleasantly. "I didn't realize this was a thing with you. You're a baker?" It wasn't the weirdest thing, but it just didn't seem like something she'd do. He guessed she was just full of surprises.

He took a step inside the apartment and shut the door behind himself, as Alice's hands were full. "Is this complicated? Keep in mind that I don't bake."

"Well duh, cupcakes are delicious," Parker replied with a laugh. "I go through baking phases, I guess. It reminds me of Christmas," she explained, as if that explained everything. Christmas was her absolute favorite thing ever, even if she had a few unorthodox views about it. For example: Christmas trees had to be decorated with as many shiny, expensive things as possible, for bribing Santa. Because everyone did bad things, right? Right.

She kept stirring her batter as she bounded back to the kitchen. "Easy as cupcakes." Because that was clear. "Seriously, you just kinda mix the ingredients and put them in the pan."

"Baking is never that simple," Pietro said. Not that he really had experience with such things. He might have tried to cook only a handful of times in his life, but it'd never worked out. Now that he was older, he figured he would just have to order take-out or reheat frozen pizzas to eat. It didn't bother him much.

He went to a counter that seemed at least somewhat out of the way and leaned against it, watching Alice be animated and happy.

"Well, no, you have to put them in the oven, too," Parker giggled, putting the bowl down on the counter and rummaging through a cabinet to find a cupcake pan. "And make sure you use cups, otherwise they aren't cupcakes." She pulled out four packages of the little pan-liners, all in different designs, to demonstrate her point.

"What do you think?" She asked, holding them up to compare. "Neon colors, pawprints, flowers, or stripes?"

Pietro considered for a moment. "Stripes," he said with a nod. "They're the manliest option." Of course, they were pastel stripes, so they didn't exactly give the best impression of masculinity. Still. Not wanting to feel useless, Pietro offered out his hand to take them. He figured he could put liners in the pan without causing too much damage.

"Of course. We can't have girly cupcakes." She declared, tossing the liners to him. These were going to be for her dinosaur friend. In theory, at least. Parker knew better than to make just one batch of cupcakes, especially with Django around. Anyone else would be lucky to get any if she did.

Pietro just smirked in response, delicately separating sleeve from sleeve and sliding them into each empty space in the pan. He watched Alice out of the corner of his eye. After a moment, he turned to her, "Where'd you learn to bake?" It wasn't a big invasion of privacy, but he realized she might not be okay with sharing information. Pietro and Alice were similar; they seemed to keep their pasts close and didn't share overly intimate details about their lives. They didn't even know each other's real name, after all.

The question gave her just a little bit of pause, though she only showed it outwardly for a moment. It wasn't anything huge. Not like how old are you or where are you from or what's your real name. Her first instinct was to lie. Not because of anything he'd done, but because it'd be a little crack in her shell, a chink in her armor. But wasn't that what being friends was about? Letting your guard down a little?

"From a fortune teller." She admitted. The one in the circus had been a bit of a mother-figure to a lot of the younger people. "When I was a lot younger."

"A fortune teller?" He raised a brow, but didn't press with another question. He wondered if she made that up or if it was the truth and decided to take her on her word. After finishing laying down the cupcake sleeves, he made a grand, sweeping gesture with his hands, telling Alice that she could pour the batter in. If it was ready.

"Wanda's a fortune teller." He commented mildly, perhaps giving Alice an out if she decided she didn't want to discuss her past further.

Parker nodded in response to his question. "I worked for a circus for a while." There. That was probably specific enough to be satisfying, but vague enough that she still felt safe sharing it. And, to be honest, sharing wasn't as terrifying as she thought it'd be. Of course, she didn't mention that the circus had been her home for many years, and it was also where she'd learned to steal.

She took the tray with a small smile and began pouring the batter into the cups carefully. Chocolate, of course; plain yellow cupcakes were boring. "Really?" His statement gave her a little pause. "That's kind of an unusual profession." No more unusual than 'thief and acrobat', but still.

"That's cool," Pietro said, smiling. Maybe he wouldn't get any more info out of her, but it was fun to imagine her swinging on trapeze. What kid didn't think of running away to the circus at one point or another in their childhood.

At mention of Wanda, Pietro just shrugged. "No weirder than bike delivery guy." Beggers couldn't be choosy, was the basic thought there. And Wanda was a good liar. Fortune telling was basically a smart investment.

"It was fun," she shrugged, taking the batter-filled pan and putting it into the already heated oven. Now they had fifteen minutes or so to kill before the next batch could go in.

"I had a dream about a psychic." It was a little random, but this was Parker. "Well, not a real one. He just read people's reactions and stuff. I didn't like him." She intentionally didn't say why. "He was scamming people who were grieving out of a lot of money, so we shut him down."

"Was it a normal dream or one of the weird ones?" There probably should have been a different way to differentiate the dreams, but this was as eloquent as Pietro felt at the moment. He pointed at the bowl in Alice's hands. "I want to lick that clean," he said in an entirely serious way. And then, "How'd you shut him down?"

"The weird ones. I keep having them all from the same universe. What's even weirder is that I can do some of the stuff from them now, like I already learned it." Parker knew she could trust Django with this sort of information, because hey, he was a thief too. "Like I bought an electronic alarm and I disabled it without knowing anything about how it worked." It was kind of neat, actually.

She held the bowl a little protectively. "Once the next batch is done. I made enough batter for twenty-four cupcakes. Anyway. He had a TV show and he was a fame whore. So we basically made this whole fancy thing where we made him think Sophie– that's our grifter– was a real psychic. It was actually just her reading people and Hardison the hacker doing facial recognition stuff. Then we set him up to be publicly embarrassed."

"Really?" Pietro seemed to lean forward as she spoke about her dreams. He hadn't heard anything about people learning actual skills from their dreams so far, but it seemed an interesting concept. Especially when he thought about the weird things that had happened in the few dreams he'd had. "You going to put those skills to use?" He asked this neutrally, because even though he didn't like the idea of Alice getting into serious trouble, he didn't feel it was really his place to lecture.

"Pretty smart," he said in response to her story. "So you were thieves with hearts of gold?" He grinned at her, but not in a mocking sort of way. It was hard not to laugh at how silly things sounded. Pietro had been a mutant. Alice had been some sort of super thief. It was weird.

"I've thought about it," Parker admitted. It was tempting, especially since she'd eased off on the pickpocket stuff lately. And it was going to take a lot of money to rebuild the Ranch. "I've got to practice more, though. There's some things that I know right away and some things that take a few tries." She shrugged. "It's really weird, but I might as well put it to use."

Thieves with hearts of gold. That was a good way to describe it. "Well, we were all different types of thieves. I was the thief-thief. Hardison was our hacker. Sophie was our grifted. Eliot did all the punching and stuff. And Nate was like, the master plan guy. We helped people who couldn't be helped by the police and stuff. We always stole from rich and powerful bad guys who hurt people." In the dream-world, it was the first good thing that had come out of her life, and she wanted to hold on to that here. "I've had a lot of dreams."

Pietro bit back a comment telling her to be careful. She would. Alice was smart. Hopefully smarter than he would be if he were in her shoes. In response to her comment, he only nodded, just a bit solemnly.

"Yeah?" He asked about her dreams. "It sounds like they're good dreams." There was a pause, and Pietro said, as casually as he could muster, "Better than mine." He wasn't sure if he wanted to talk about his dreams and he also worried that he might have been butting himself into a conversation about her dreams, so he continued, "Those people you worked with to be Robin Hood, they were your friends?"

"Usually, yeah," she agreed. "Sometimes I have not so good ones from before I was with the team, but the ones with the team were all really good. Everything seemed to work out even if it wasn't how we planned it." Parker shrugged. His next question about friends, though, made her pause and look away. "They were my family," she admitted finally. "We were all really close."

The little moment of loneliness passed quickly, and she looked up at him. "What about you? What have you dreamed about?"

He noticed how she turned her head away and frowned. The last thing Pietro wanted to do was make her sad. "Sorry," he said after a moment. "Maybe they'll show up. Or you can find them?" It'd be difficult, but probably not impossible if she knew what they looked like and their names.

When she asked about his dreams, it was Pietro's turn to look away. He didn't like divulging such sensitive information, but his dreams were stupid. And, unlike Alice, he didn't really have a warm spot for anyone in them save for Wanda. And that didn't really count. "I dream about... bad guys." Pietro gave her a small, forced smile and then shrugged. "I don't know. My dreams are stupid. In one I'm being hunted for being different. In another I'm joining some group of bad guys." It just figured. After a moment of fidgeting, Pietro met Alice's eyes and shook his head. "Not as cool as yours."

The truth was, Parker had looked. She'd tried internet searches, looking through local records, even the phone book. There were no matches in Orange County, and if she went national, there would probably be too many. And even if she did find them, what would she say? 'I had dreams about you'? Instead, she just gave Pietro a smile. "I'll keep looking," she told him.

As he started talking about his dreams, it was her turn to frown. She hadn't meant for it to be a sensitive topic, and she recognized that sort of forced smile– it was the same one she gave whenever anyone asked about her parents or her childhood. Without a word, she held out the batter spoon for him. Cupcake batter made everything better.

"I'll help if I can," Pietro offered with a small shrug. He knew there was little he could do without photos and solid information on the people they were looking for. Still, he didn't mind lending Alice whatever he had to help.

"Thanks," he said as he took the spoon. The cloud that had hung over his head dissipated as he got the taste of batter on his tongue. "This is good."

"Course it is," Parker responded brightly, happy to see the gloomy mood that surrounded both of them go away. She didn't like seeing him upset. It made her insides twist all weird. "I made it."

The timer on the oven made a little 'ping' noise, and she shuffled off to get the cupcakes out of the oven. The smell of fresh-baked cupcakes permeated the apartment, and she grinned. "Done!"

Pietro smiled, watching Alice take the cupcakes out and set them down to cool. It seemed like such a motherly thing to do to him. He couldn't really remember if any of his foster mothers had ever done such a thing for him, but it was how he pictured an ideal mom to be. Not that he wanted to equal Alice with moms in his head.

"So," Pietro slid up to where the cupcakes where. "I should probably not stuff these into my mouth." He was grinning in a way that suggested he might, though it was out of playfulness and less that he actually wanted to try to eat steaming hot baked goods.

"Well, you could if you wanted to scorch the hell out of your mouth." Parker shrugged, opening the fridge to grab the bowl of homemade buttercream frosting she'd put in there earlier. The cupcakes had to cool before they could start decorating.

She glanced up at him with a smirk. "Which would be hilarious, but trust me, burns suck. And mouth burns are the worst. Nothing tastes right for like two centuries." Clearly, she was speaking from hot baked good-stuffing experience.

Pietro knew mouth burns. Someone didn't eat like him without becoming injured once or twice. He raised a brow and sighed heavily, as though having to be patient was the worst sort of fate.

"So are you going to open a bakery one day?" He eyed the frosting with something like lust, but didn't run over to it and stick his face it in. He had a little bit of self control.

Parker snorted at that. "Of course not. Bakeries are tasty but I'd get so bored. You can't jump off buildings when you're trying to bake every day."

Her dreams involved a lot more building-jumping than her waking life. So far, at least. That could always change. Standing on her tiptoes to get to another cabinet, she grabbed a two small bowls, spooning some of the frosting into each and sliding one towards him. "Frosting's the best part. I always make extra."

Pietro, who was tall and thin and could reach high shelves with little difficulty, moved to help but didn't make it on time. He stopped mid step, and started grinning when she gave him the bowl. "Thanks," he said.

"You're planning on jumping off buildings?" He dipped his index finger in the frosting.

Parker handed him a spoon before grabbing one of her own and digging into the frosting. There was no need to get her fingers all sticky before she had to.

She shook her head at his question. "Not right now, anyway. I don't have the right equipment for it." Her tone was thoughtful. "I want to though."
