David sat straight upright on his couch where he'd fallen asleep while watching the news. Turning, he placed his sock covered feet on the floor, and ran a hand over his face. He knew he'd been craving Chinese, but not enough to actually dream about eating it, especially for Thanksgiving.
David would like to say he hadn't done that before, but he had, especially when he had to work during the holiday's while he'd been a patrol officer. It wasn't the eating Chinese for Thanksgiving that had his heart hammering in his chest, or his skin clammy from sweat.
No, it was the call that he'd gotten on his cell phone, and then on the radio about the RV that matched the description of the one that two missing girls were seen playing on. He'd only been five minutes out, and even though his shift had ended, David just couldn't go home.
"This is 13-40, I'm five minutes out."
His own voice echoed in his ears, causing him to reach up and rub his hand over his forehead. Light pressure started behind his eyes, and David let out a long sigh. He could still feel the cold, hard rain pelting against him as he'd gotten out of his car once he'd arrived on scene. It was enough to cause goose bumps to rise on his arms and he let out a long breath.
Had this what people had been trying to warn him of?
Someone had mentioned dreams to him on the Network, and now he wondered if this was exactly what they meant. That was crazy, right? People were likely fucking with him because he was new on the forums, but then there'd been people talking about switching genders.
With a groan, David raked his fingers through his hair, stopping at the back of his neck to rub the tense muscles there at the back of his neck. After a few moments he dropped his hands back down, resting them on the tops of his thighs while his mind tried to work through what he'd just dreamt about. He had never had a case like that, murders, burglaries, sure but he'd never worked an abduction case.
It bothered him to think about it. It bothered him even more that he didn't know what happened after he approached the RV. He'd woken up far too soon to know, and that bothered him to no end. What was he going to find there? Two dead girls, or two alive ones? Or maybe they weren't in the RV at all, maybe the suspect had dropped them off somewhere, and they had a very limited amount of time to try and find them.
Each hour, each day that passed in abduction cases usually meant certain death for the abductee.
Who the fuck knew at this stage? All David knew was that his head had starting hurting, and he was chilled right down to his core.
He pushed himself up off the couch, trying to shake the dream from his thoughts as he moved into the kitchen to make himself a pot of coffee. David wasn't banking on shaking the thoughts about his dreams away, but he was hoping that the coffee would help to warm him up inside.
