He does feel the slightest bit silly, but a promise is a promise. So here is Captain James Hook (esquire), standing on the deck of the Jolly Roger in full pirate regalia.

Well, minus the hat. While it is a truly fantastic hat, the wind keeps blowing it off, and he'd rather not lose it, thank you. Hopefully Henry will appreciate the effort, even if Neal will tease him about it for ages.

It was safe to say that Henry would appreciate the effort. As soon as Neal told him that he was going to meet Captain Hook (the real one), the kid could hardly contain his pure unadulterated enthusiasm. He was all set to fanboy the hell out of Jas, and when they approached the Jolly Roger where it was docked, the eleven-year-old nearly exploded into a ball of energy and awe.

"Wow! This is a real pirate ship!" he exclaimed, and his dark eyes, so much like Neal's, were about the size of dinner plates as he drank in the sight - he basically had to be nudged aboard by his dad, who grabbed the kid's collar and gave it a gentle tug, with a rumbling chuckle.

This time Neal brought real food as opposed to...not. Sandwiches and fruit and things. Actual substance, minus the beer. You're welcome, James. "Henry, come here," he motioned, grocery bags slung over his arm. And Henry didn't have to be told twice. He was already there, curious as a cat. Though the full-on pirate regalia had him a little wary - was he going to make them walk the plank?

Neal nudged him again, since the kid had a case of slack-jaw. "Henry, this is Jas."

"Are you really a pirate??!"

Neal chuckled again. "Shake his hand first, maybe, before you grill him with questions," and sheepishly, the mini-Neal held out his hand for a proper greeting.

"Well I don't know, do I look like a pirate?" James grins down at Henry, spreading his arms and giving a twirl so Henry can get the full picture.

Since his right hand is taken up by the hook, he takes Henry's hand in his left and gives it a firm shake. "Pleasure to meet you, young Henry. Neal has told me all about you."

His first instinct is to kiss Neal on the cheek, and he starts to lean in, but diverts and squeezes his shoulder in greeting instead. "And hello to you as well, mate."

"It's nice to meet you too. Wow, you've even got the hook! Does it feel weird?" Henry's eyes were glued to the appendage, and yeah, his dad said he was meeting Captain Hook but how cool was it to be able to see someone he'd read about (or watched the movie - though in this case, Neal made sure to emphasize that the movies were a lot different than real life) in the flesh.

Neal returned the shoulder squeeze fondly. "Thanks for having us," he grinned. "Henry was pretty excited, but that's obvious by now."

Oh yeah. He was basically bouncing with happiness and gummi juice. "Can we have a tour of the ship?" he asked hopefully.

"Well I am pleased to have him. And you too, I suppose."

He offers his hook hand to Henry with an indulgent smile, "Be careful, it's quite sharp. It's doesn't feel very weird, no. A little tight, perhaps. It's held on with all sorts of straps and things.

Of course you can have a tour of the ship. Where would you like to start?"

Offer a hook hand to Henry and he'd be busy all day. As it was, Neal had to remind him to quit gawking after he spent what felt like an eon examining the appendage and checking out all the various bells and whistles, 'straps and things' as Mr. Jas said, and he basically thought it was the coolest thing everrrrr.

"I bet it's really heavy!" he surmised, but still, "Must be good at opening cans too?"

Neal had to laugh at that. He doubted if Jas ever considered using the hook as a can opener, but you never knew. "Where do you want to start, kiddo?" he asked.

He gave it some thought. "Can we start by the...helm? Or where you steer? And then can I climb the mast??" It looked so fun, all high up and you could see forever!

"Oh opening cans, the combing of the hair. Dozens of household uses." James holds still patiently, pulling aside his shirt to show Henry where it buckles onto his shoulder and across his chest.

"We can start at the wheel, absolutely. And it's up to Neal whether or not you can climb the mast, as it's rather high and I'm not responsible for you."

Actually, come to think of it, Neal couldn't recall seeing that hook with all its doo-dads and bells and whistles on James either. Not in person - and the Hook in his dreams, well, the apparatus was a lot less complex. It was more a brace or something, and it was a wonder he didn't tip off over all off-balance. "Sure, you can climb the mast, you monkey," he teased his son. "Just be careful. The crow's nest is my favorite too though," Neal added, flashing a smile. "I bet Henry knows why it's called that too."

"Because sailors used to put straw up there, for keeping night watch when it was cold! All the straw kept them warm!" Henry responded proudly, and was wiggling like an excited puppy, anxious to go pretend to steer at the wheel. "Do you need a crew, Mr. Jas? I bet I could be your Quartermaster!"

Then they could really go sailing.
