Dorian had been thinking of Vanessa rather a lot lately so he had decided to ask her out for dinner. He hadn’t actually been out with a woman in a date setting in some time so he was a little rusty, but he was rarely ever got flustered so he felt confident that the night would go off without a hitch. After making reservations at one of his favorite restaurants, which also happened to be a rather expensive restaurant, he began deciding what he was going to wear so that when Saturday night rolled around all he’d have to do was get ready and pick up Vanessa.
When Saturday night did roll around, he was right on time, pulling up to Vanessa’s at exactly eight o’clock as he had told her in his text. He’d brought her one red rose, which he had presented to her at the door when she answered then had escorted her to the car, which tonight was being driven by his driver. He didn’t always get driven around, but he felt that tonight was one of those occasions.
Once they reached the restaurant, they were led to their table, their drink orders were taken and they were left to look over the menus; not that Dorian needed to look since he knew already what he was getting. “I want to thank you again for accepting my invitation for dinner tonight.”
Vanessa couldn’t deny Dorian had been on her mind as well, and not just because of her dreams. Though they made her blush to think of them. It had been a while since she had dated, purely because she’d been focused on her work for so long. But she wouldn’t dream of saying no to an invitation to dinner with Dorian. She enjoyed his company and he made her feel much more exciting and desirable than she usually felt.
She picked out a classy but appealing dress and minimal make up - the dress had taken much longer to pick and her bedroom looked like a complete mess but she was happy enough. He’d been prompt as expected and she’d blushed when he’d handed her the rose.
The restaurant was beautiful and she smiled at Dorian over her menu, “Thank you for inviting me, I’ve been very much looking forward to spending the evening with you” she told him.
Dorian smiled, “I had actually wanted to ask you to dinner sooner, but had a few things I had to take care of.” Being the only living member of his family meant that when Dorian wasn’t partying or spending large amounts of money, he had to handle the family affairs, which included the occasional appearance at boring functions as well as meetings with the family lawyers.
“Well luckily for both of us I’m a very patient woman” she told him with a slightly teasing smile, “Everything was sorted with no trouble I hope” she added because she knew despite appearances he did deal with serious things too.
“No trouble at all.” Dorian did what he had to as the representative for his family despite how boring most of it was. “And how have you been lately?” They had spoken a few times on Valarnet recently, but Dorian was hoping they would be able to see more of each other from now on.
“I finally got my car fixed” she told him, “Did I tell you I got into an accident in it when that crazy weather happened at the end of July? With everything that kicked off around here after that I’d simply put it off but I found a great garage” Vanessa realised that her life had become very boring if that was the most exciting thing she could think of. “Oh and I met another woman who dreams about having premonitions too”
Dorian’s brows rose as she spoke about the car accident, “No, you didn’t tell me about that. Were you alright? What happened?” Dorian didn’t like the thought of Vanessa getting hurt. During the bizarre weather that had taken place in July, Dorian had mostly stayed inside and drank. He had been terribly bored, but going out had been out of the question considering what was going on outside. He had been very happy when the weather had let up.
“I was okay, a little shaken up and a few bruises but nothing serious” she assured him, it had been her own fault. She had tried to drive home from work not realising how bad everything had gotten out there.
“I’m glad you were alright,” Dorian said, reaching out and placing his hand on Vanessa’s. He couldn’t imagine something bad happening to Vanessa and was very glad that she hadn’t been hurt too badly in her accident, “Next time don’t venture out in weather like that. Or come to my house before it gets too bad and we can weather the storm together.” He smirked a little as the waitress came by with a bottle of wine and filled their glasses.
“Thank you and I don’t plan to” she promised him, the feel of his hand over hers rather pleasant and welcome. She smiled at his suggestion “Well that does sound much more appealing” and she found herself rather wishing for some awful weather.
“Or anything really. I have the best and latest security features. Nothing can get in if I don’t want it to.” Dorian’s smirk transformed into a smile and he lifted his wine glass, “Now, what should we toast to?” He didn’t do this sort of thing often and actually mean it, but there was something special about Vanessa.
“Much like a fortress then” she smiled, there were times when she would like to shut herself away and just forget the world for a while. It didn’t surprise her that Dorian had the means to do such a thing. She lifted her glass, “Perhaps our continued friendship?” she suggested, Dorian intrigued her and his attention was flattering, there was no denying that. But she rather did want to get to know him much better.
