Who: Capable and Celaena When: Mid september Where: Capable’s to begin with What: Shopping Rating/Warnings: Bad language used Status: Complete
Capable had been surprised but happy to receive a message from Celaena inviting her to go shopping. She was a little apprehensive since she didn’t have a lot of money but Myrcella had told her to just try lots of things on and have fun, even if she couldn’t buy anything. So that was what she was going to do.
She’d put on her best shorts and top though she was still self conscious, she knew they would look rather bland and tatty next to Celaena’s clothing but it was the best she could do. Hearing the doorbell she called out to Furiosa that she would see her later and opened the door to her new friend, “Hi” she smiled, “I’m all ready”
Celaena loved any excuse to go shopping and she had enjoyed talking to Capable so going shopping with her was a no - brainer. Bouncing up to the front door she rang the bell and waited for her friend. She had a butler, but she didn't need him to do everything for her. She was wearing a blue, floor length dress, sandals and sunglasses. She grinned at Capable when the door opened and gave her a quick hug. "Great! Come on then!" She waved at the girl to follow her to the limousine where Mr Thomas was already opening the back door for them. Smiling at him, she turned and waited for Capable to catch up. While she had noted Capable's outfit, it didn't matter much to her. She understood that a lot of people weren't as fortunate as her family were. In fact, she saw it more as a challenge to get the girl some nicer looking threads.
As expected Celaena was looking beautiful as always but despite that she never made Capable feel bad that she didn’t. It was pretty nice. As was the car, “Oh my goodness” she breathed, “That’s your car, it’s huge” Up until recently Capable had never been in cars much. Furiosa, Max and Tessa’s vehicles were about her limit, that she could remember anyway but this was very different to those. Smiling she got into the car, this really was how the other half lived.
"Yep," Celaena grinned as she followed the girl into the car. She and Capable hadn’t been friends all that long, so she probably didn’t know that Celaena came from a wealthy family. That being the case, Capable was in for a shock when Celaena invited her over to her house. Still, she must have seen limos around or on tv. Celaena shrugged it off, she forgot that a limo ride, to other people, was considered pretty special. She settled in the seat next to Capable as the butler closed the door for them. “Everything ok?”
“This is a car isn’t it?” Capable said as she took in the interior, “That’s amazing” she was gazing at the lights and the mini bar, “I’ve never seen anything like it before. Not inside a car” This was all very new to Capable, she’d never seen a limo before in real life and hadn’t had a television in the compound.
Celaena frowned at Capable's reaction. "You don't get out much, do you," she replied, an amused expression on her face. "You never seen a limo before?" She asked, settling back in her seat as the engine started and they pulled away.
Capable blushed a little as she looked down and shook her head, "Never" she admitted, "I didn't know you could get cars with bars in them"
Celaena laughed, confused. “Where have you been living? Under a rock?” she joked, reaching forward to pour herself some coke. Her parents had told their butler to stock the car with non-alcoholic drinks for the day, for obvious reasons, but generally there were a couple of decanters of spirits in the mini bar.
“In a controlled commune” Capable replied softly, “Then in a rehabilitation centre to integrate me back into society” she repeated what she had been told, “And now I’m here”
Celaena stopped what she was doing, mid reach for her drink, and turned to look at the girl to her right. “I...are you joking?” she asked. “‘Coz I was joking,” she picked up her glass and sat back with it.
Capable shook her head, “I’m not joking, that is my life or was anyway before Furiosa saved me” she smiled at the thought of the older woman, “I’d have been married off to some weird old guy by now if I hadn’t gotten away”
“No way!” Celaena gaped at her new friend. “You are shitting me!” she shook her head in amazement. “So were you in one of those freaky cults then? Like Charlie Manson?” she asked, taking a sip of her drink.
“I don’t know who that is” she said, “But yes it was a cult” she winced a little at the term though her therapist encouraged her to come to terms with it. “That’s why things are new to me, I’ve been in rehab for 8 months before settling here”
“Wow! Well, I knew there was something a little different about you, but I would so not have picked that,” Celaena replied, settling back in her seat. “So 8 months in rehab, huh? That must have been tough. So how did you get out?” she asked curiously.
“It wasn’t easy everything was so new and strange but it was better than being back there” Capable told her, “I ran away. I took the first chance I got and just ran. I almost ran under the wheels of a truck but the driver stopped and helped me” She didn’t tell Celaena it had been her second runaway attempt, the first had ended in her being beaten black and blue and recovering for a while.
“Yikes! That’s uh...that’s a helluva story, you ever think about writing a book?” Celaena asked. To be honest, she wasn’t all that good at these kind of situations. Honest truthfulness was not her forte and she usually made jokes to get out of it if things got difficult. “So Furiosa rescued you then? How did that come about?” she asked.
Capable shook her head, “Nobody needs to read that” and she didn’t particularly want to remember it all. “Furiosa was the driver of the truck. She took one look at me and offered to help” She’d been Capable’s saviour.
“That is so cool!” Celaena smiled as she gazed at Capable. “So you’ve never seen a limo before? Or a mini bar? Have you ever been to the theatre? Or seen ballet?” she asked, an idea forming for their next adventure.
“Nope. And I’ve seen mini bars in hotels but never in a car” she’d stayed in a hotel before going to rehab and asked about it then. “I’ve seen pictures of ballet dancers and I know about it” she didn’t want to sound completely stupid but there just was a lot of things she had yet to experience properly.
“Well then, you’ll just have to come to the theatre with me for our next show,” Celaena said easily with a shrug. “I’ll get you the best seat in the house, you and Furiosa if you think she’d enjoy it, and give you a backstage tour so you can see everything,” she smiled. “It won’t be until November time, but if you want to come by before then just let me know and you can see the costumes and set without people rushing around trying to get ready for a show,” she laughed, imagining the chaos of the whole company running around before a show. It probably wouldn’t be the best if Capable wanted to look at and touch things.
“Really?” Capable said her smile brightening her face, “That would be amazing. Thank you so much” she said, giving her friend a brief but heartfelt hug. “It’s so kind of you. I’d love to see you dance and where you dance, I imagine it’s amazing”
“You’re welcome,” Celaena grinned, returning the hug. She liked making her friend’s happy and not having to worry about money meant that most of the time she could accomplish it. “And I don’t want you to worry about this trip, either. My treat,” she told Capable confidently.
“Oh no, that’s too much. I’ve saved up some money from my job” admittedly it was only around $40 but she could find something for that she was sure. Though perhaps only a belt or something, she was sure she could never afford anything like what her friend was currently wearing.
“Capable, don’t worry about it, I like buying things for people,” Celaena shrugged. “You don’t need to worry about paying me back or anything. I get an allowance from my parents and I also get money from working at the ballet company. Although calling it work really doesn’t seem fair when I enjoy it so much,” she grinned.
“Well, thank you maybe I can buy us lunch?” she offered, because it really didn’t seem fair to her even though Celaena didn’t seem to mind at all. She didn’t want her thinking she was using her or anything, she truly liked the taller girl.
Celaena shrugged easily. “If you like, but don’t feel like you have to,” she smiled. Ultimately, she just wanted to have a good time with Capable and, now she knew about her past, that Capable had a good time too.
