Who: Kitty Pryde and Gaz Membrane. What: Planning a trip to St. Louis. When: After this thread. Where: Their house. Warnings: Surprisingly, no. Status: Complete!
Living with Kitty was surprisingly easy, and Gaz always looked forward coming home from school to see her. She was excited to see her because they were planning an impromptu trip to Saint Louis and then up to Chicago to see the twins. It was like having a family - something Gaz had always wanted, and never had.
Coming inside the house, Gaz took off her backpack and called out to her girlfriend. “Kate?”
“Yep?” Kitty called out. She had a duffel bag on the bed and was looking through clothing to wear. She had on a t-shirt and little else, since why bother wearing pants if she was home alone? She did in fact have a Cubs shirt, and a cubs hat. She hadn’t been to a live game since she was a teenager. Longer ago for her than it should technically be at this point in time. “I wonder how many days we should pack for…”
“Just a couple. If you need more clothes, we can buy them.” Gaz moved to sit down on the bed near the duffel bag, looking content. “No big deal.” She openly ogled Kitty’s bottom, because she could.
“Good point. It’s not like we can’t afford it.” Benefits of Gaz being stupidly wealthy and Kitty having a huge windfall a couple years ago. She zipped up the duffel bag. “Got laptop and tablet packed, phone is charged. Anything you need to take?” She caught Gaz staring and wriggled her butt.
“Huh?” Gaz blinked when Kitty started shaking her butt, laughing and looking up. “I wasn’t listening to you at all, Legs.”
“I was saying.” She cocked her hip and planted a hand on it, enjoying the way Gaz was distracted. “What do you think you need to take? I don’t want to take the Blackbird this time. I kind of wanted to enjoy first class and being waited on hand and foot. And not being in a rush, honestly...” And someone else at the controls was nice now and again. “And I figured we can take it St. Louis to Chicago and back if we want to go fast.”
“We can take my plane if you want. It’s nicer than first class.” Private planes were the shit. “And I figure three days worth of clothes, then we can buy more if we have to. Toiletries. I was gonna bring my camera, especially since we’re gonna visit the twins.”
“Ooh, I forgot you had one. I like that idea.” Kitty bounced over to Gaz and threaded her arms around her shoulders. “Want a lot of pictures, huh? Scary demon with squishy insides.”
“Everyone’s insides are squishy,” Gaz retorted. She wrapped her arms around Kitty’s waist and gently massaged the small of her back. Gaz smiled fondly. “I don’t know, just ‘cause I’m mean to some people doesn’t mean I can’t love you and the twins.”
Kitty let out a soft, contented groan, melting against Gaz. “You know what I mean.” She squeezed her arms more tightly, remembering how they’d fought (literally) not all that long ago. Kitty could be possessive, just a little, and Orange County seemed to take away every one she loved. Probably part of the reason she’d gone all Uhaul with Gaz so quickly. Enjoy it while it lasted.
“I do.” Gaz let her forehead rest against Kitty, pulling her closer. “I’m still so sorry that spell made me go quite so bitchy.” But apparently it had made people go extra awful against the people they loved, so that sort of proved that Gaz was stupid about Kitty. Which was nice. In a shitty way. “I mean it, though. You should have them come out and visit more often. We can do Disney.”
"They could come over holiday break," Kitty suggested. Though holidays were something she hadn't talked to Gaz about. Kitty was a slut for holidays, even the ones that weren't Jewish. Christmakkah had been an actual thing for her and the twins. And she'd introduced them to several others.
“I’d like that. I didn’t get to celebrate holidays before.” Her family hadn’t ever really been keen on them, and she still didn’t know a lot of the traditions. Christmas trees had always seemed really weird to her.
Kitty nuzzled Gaz's neck, "Well...I don’t even know what holidays you’d celebrate.”
“I dunno. The not religious ones? And Christmas, that’s less religious now too.” Plus, presents. Gaz loved giving presents.
“We traditionally do Christmaskah,” Kitty explained. “Basically I really like decorating and presents and I wanted the kids to have Xi’an’s traditions as well as mine.”
“Christmas plus a menorah?” Gaz cocked her head to the side and smiled. “I didn’t really have Christmas.”
“More complicated than that, but basically. I mean, even in my Dreams I’d still do Christmas stuff at the X-Mansion. I just liked seeing everyone all joyful.” Her faith was important to her, though. She just hadn’t had much opportunity to talk to Gaz about it.
“Religious holidays are nice, but most holidays don’t seem to be too religiousy.” Hey, it was a word now. Gaz looked up at Kitty fondly. “You’ll have to teach me what to do. I know Christmas is gifts, but the rest, not so much.”
“I’ll teach you,” Kitty promised. “And anything I miss, the twins will enthusiastically help you with.” She nudged them towards the bed.
“I figured.” Gaz plopped onto the bed, legs curled up underneath her. “I mean, I’m not gonna be religious, but I like holiday shit. What I’ve seen so far.”
Kitty kneeled on the bed, then slowly pushed Gaz onto her back so she could straddle her. “I’m not asking you to believe or anything. God only knows why I still have faith, but I do.” She leaned down and kissed the tip of Gaz’s nose. She was feeling kind of sappy, and kind of philosophical. “But that kind of stuff. Togetherness, color and light, giving. That transcends religions and secularity.”
“Family and stuff.” Gaz nodded. “I never really had one? So it’ll be neat to see what it’s like.” She liked the twins already; they were kids, and kids were way more smart and honest than adults.
Smiling, Kitty nudged Gaz’s cheek with her nose. “Yeah. It’ll be good for all of us.”
