Who: Peggy Carter and Tony Stark When: Early August Where: The Agency What: Catching up Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Tony was sitting in Peggy’s office when she returned from… wherever it was she’d gone. The restroom? He was Tony Stark, so he’d been able to sneak in without setting off any alarms or throwing up any red flags. There was a smile on his face as he fiddled with his phone. A bouquet of fresh flowers sat on Peggy’s desk.
Tony was a smug bastard.
Peggy had run downstairs to check in with an employee and didn’t really think about locking up her office, so she wasn’t expecting anyone in there as she made her way down the hall. She lightly hummed to herself as she turned the corner and was so startled by the sight of someone in her office that she visibly jumped and backed out of the room for a moment.
“Bloody hell! Tony Bloody Stark, you almost killed me,” she chastised, a hand on her chest, as she stepped back into the room and her eyes narrowed at him. It was hard to get the jump on Peggy and Tony was honestly lucky that she hadn’t pulled a gun or anything on him, “How in the world did you get in here? I need to talk to security.”
“You really should. I’ll explain it in full detail so you can patch up those holes.” Tony said, then locked the screen of his phone and stood. He slipped it into his pocket. “Just wanted to come by and visit. Check in. See how you’re doing. How your Dreaming is coming along.”
“You’re the worst,” she retorted in a light teasing tone, but she would certainly be having a chat with security after their visit was over. However, she portrayed calm and happy to him as she entered further into the room and made her way over to him with a smile, “Aw, you’re sweet. It has been a while. And my Dreams have gotten interesting in regards to your father. Jarvis is basically my right hand man right now.”
“Jarvis is?” Tony asked with both eyebrows springing up. “Really. That’s interesting. I’ll have to let Jarvis know that his dream namesake is a good friend of yours.” He said, breaking into a smile. It was so strange that they were in such different times in their dreams. “Have you met my mother? In your Dreams?”
“He’s keeping an eye on me on orders from your father. He likes to think himself as a spy as well right now. He’s so caught up in it,” Peggy commented with a chuckle. She absolutely adored Jarvis in her dreams and wished that she had him around in this lifetime. His next question earned a shake, “I have not. This is certainly a time before your mother because your father is quite...friendly.”
Tony imagined Jarvis--his best friend Jarvis in this world, not the AI of the same name--fancying himself a spy. It was amusing. He chuckled, too. Then sighed a little. “That’s a part of his life I never knew. I guess I could have assumed? He was a handsome guy, after all.”
“It’s probably best that you never knew since he is your father. In these Dreams he’s just my friend and quite a flirt,” Peggy was amused by Howard’s antics most of the time, but sometimes she just wanted to smack him upside the head, “But he is incredibly smart. He has made so many insane inventions and that’s why he had to run off to avoid getting picked up by the government.”
That was something that Tony and Howard had in common, he supposed. The Government was always trying to get at Tony’s Lucky Charms. He shrugged his shoulders, climbing up and out of the chair to walk around the desk. “I take it you’re watching out for him, too?” He said. The way Peggy talked about him made Tony think Peggy was fond of the man.
“He recruited me to watch his back and help him clear his name. He is part of a very tiny group of people that I would risk my life for and attempt being a double agent for,” it was strange to admit this, but she knew she would have done it for Howard Stark in this life as well. When he got up out of the chair Peggy couldn’t help but watch him as he came out from behind the desk.
“I should probably let you get back to … whatever it was you were doing before I so rudely interrupted,” Tony said, slipping his hands in his pockets and heading for the door. “I’ll make sure to check in with your Head of Security, though, about the lapses in protection.” ...such a smart ass.
“You sure? We can get a bite down in the cafeteria if you wanted,” Peggy wasn’t overly busy and it was nice to have Tony around even if he did muck up her security, “And it would be quite lovely if you did. I’m going to have to draft a flyer with your picture on it to prevent these lapses in the future.”
“Cafeteria food?” Tony asked, an eyebrow raised. “Make sure you get my good side,” he said with a grin. Then he nodded. “We can go grab a bite. So long as you promise I won’t get food poisoning.”
“I promise you won’t. We may not bring over food trucks every day, but we have some great chefs,” Peggy promised with a smirk at his good side comment. She made her way over to the door and opened it up for him, “After you, Tony. We can discuss security on the way down there.”
“Sounds good.” Tony gave her a little smile, then headed over to the door and stepped out. “Ah. Right. Security. I’ve got a few notes…”
