Who: Jeremy and Myrcella
What: Cabin Camping
When: Labor Day weekend
Where: Jeremy’s parents cabin
Warnings/Ratings: Low/None
Status: Complete
With all the crazy stuff that had been happening in Orange County, Jeremy thought that it was a good idea for him and Myrcella to get away for a few days. After talking to Elena and Katherine about the cabin, he’d gotten the keys and they packed up the car then headed to his parents’ cabin. He hadn’t been there in a couple of years and knew that it was going to be weird at first, but having had time to grieve, he didn’t think that it’d be as bad.
“So, we can either stay the whole time in the cabin or do half in the cabin and half in a tent.” There was a clearing just behind the cabin where they could set up a tent if they wanted.
Getting away for a few days was going to be lovely and Myrcella couldn’t wait, she was excited. Being with Jeremy was always nice but this was their first adventure holiday together and it made her feel grown up. More so than living together and owning a house which was probably strange.
“I want to try the tent” she told him, she’d never been camping before and while she loved hair and makeup she wasn’t the kind of girl to shy away from a little dirt. “I like the idea of it”
“Tonight we’ll stay in the cabin though and tomorrow we’ll set up the tent.” They had left later than Jeremy had expected so by the time they got up to the cabin it’d be too dark to set up the tent correctly. “We’re almost there though.” Jeremy said, checking the GPS. “Shouldn’t be long now.”
“Okay I think thats fair” because the idea of setting up a tent in the dark wasn’t too appealing to her, it reeked of bad horror movie plot. Nodding Myrcella looked out of the window, “It’s a beautiful area, I can see why your mum and dad chose it” she smiled at him. Knowing the cabin must hold bittersweet memories for him.
“My dad actually had it built. After they got married. So it’s been around for as long as I can remember.” Jeremy had many memories of summers spent at the cabin. He hadn’t been back since before his parents died so this was going to be interesting. Taking a turn off, Jeremy drove the car up a dirt road, through some trees and finally came to stop at a good sized cabin, a lake right front of them, the setting sun lighting up the horizon, “And we’re here.”
“Oh that’s so romantic. How lovely” Myrcella said, she hoped that going back now would be good for Jeremy and not too hard. She’d be there to help of course but she knew it could be rather bittersweet. “That’s beautiful” she breathed, it was framed perfectly by the setting sun and she had a good feeling about their break.
Jeremy smiled as he watched Myrcella’s reaction to the cabin then undid his seatbelt and stepped out of the car, “Come on.” Popping the trunk, he moved around to the back of the car and grabbed his bag as well as Myrcella’s and headed towards the porch. He had thought that this would be harder than it actually was, but he suspected that it had something to do with the fact that he’d been able to see his parents’ ghosts and come to terms with everything in his own way. He knew it was a hard thing to explain so he tried not to voice it out loud too often cause the whole Medium thing was just strange in and of itself.
Stepping out of the car Myrcella took in the whole area before she followed Jeremy towards the cabin. It felt so serene here, very different to the city. Of course their home was fairly calm by the beach but it didn’t have the stillness of this place. Myrcella knew, of course, that Jeremy was able to see things others couldn’t. He’d told her and she wouldn’t mind listening if he had wanted to talk more about it. While she possibly couldn’t understand it as someone who experienced it she was always there for him and would try her best.
Placing one bag down on the deck, Jeremy unlocked the door and picked the bag up again. As a result of being a Hunter, Jeremy’s strength had increased so carrying both bags was no problem at all. Pushing the door open, he stood there for a moment before crossing the threshold into the foyer. Inside, he dropped both bags and headed for the nearest light switch; the light illuminating the foyer, “So, want the tour?” He asked, glancing over at Myrcella.
Myrcella would have taken a bag from him but she knew how strong her boyfriend was and he was very sweet about carrying her bag for her. She noticed him hesitate and when he asked her if she wanted a tour she nodded moving closer to him and leaning up to press a kiss to his lips, “A tour would be nice. If you’re okay” she checked first.
Jeremy smiled and kissed her back, his arms wrapping around her waist. This place might have held a lot of memories, mostly bittersweet now, but Jeremy was happy the be there with Myrcella now. “Come on.” He made sure the door was closed and locked then took Myrcella’s hand and led her into the living area, flipping the light on as he went. He had called the day before to make sure that the power would be on when they got there. “This is the living room and through here is the kitchen. We’ll have to go shopping in the morning.” They were only there for the long weekend, but that didn’t mean that they didn’t need food.
“It’s so cosy” Myrcella said, despite not being used for so long there was still a nice feeling to the place. “We can make that the first thing we do in the morning” she said, they could buy a few nice things as well as the basics after all they were on vacation.
Jeremy led the way out of the kitchen and back through the living room to the foyer then up the stairs, “There are three bedrooms. My parents’. Katherine and Elena’s and mine. Even when we were younger Katherine and Elena were so different so it was always interesting when we came up here and they had to share a room.” At the house there were four bedrooms so both girls had had their own room with Jeremy’s next to Elena’s with a connecting bathroom between them, “We can sleep in my old room while we’re here.” He led the way past what had been his parents’ room here to his room, which had a full sized bed and dresser and a few other furnishings.
“Oh I can’t imagine them sharing a room” Myrcella said, the girls were very different even if she didn’t know them both all that well. She smiled and nodded as she followed him and looked around the room, “It’s a lovely place” she told him looking out of the window before coming back to him. “We should come here more often” she said, “I think it would be good for us”
Jeremy laughed, "Try growing up with them across the hall from each other." As different as his sisters were, he knew that deep down they loved each other and would have each other's backs no matter what. "I agree. Maybe we could come up here for Christmas too."
Myrcella smiled, she understood that since as much as her brothers and her argued they did love each other. Even Joffrey. “Oh that’s a lovely idea” she said, “A little Christmas tree and decorations would look beautiful”
Jeremy smiled and nodded, “It would.” He wondered if Elena and Katherine would want to come too. It’d be nice to spend Christmas with his sisters and girlfriend. That reminded him that Thanksgiving was actually coming up first and he should bring it up to his sisters, “Come on, we can start a fire in the fireplace and there’s a place nearby where we can order a pizza.” That reminded Jeremy of the poor pizza delivery girl from his dreams that had been turned during his Hunter training at the cabin his parents had owned in Mystic Falls. Luckily there were no vampires here tonight.
Thanksgiving wasn’t really something on Myrcella’s mind, being British it wasn’t something on her radar though she enjoyed the idea of it. “A roaring fire, pizza and my amazing boyfriend sounds like a perfect evening to me” she told him, kissing him with a smile before they placed the order and sorted out the fire. She was very much looking forward to the weekend.
