The idea of a self defense class was a great one because Rose knew a lot of women that wanted to get started in being able to defend themselves. It would be a useful service to the community around them and Rose was itching to help train a few people. As she walked into the archery she couldn’t help but look around. She had never done archery before, but it looked like a lot of fun. Maybe she would end up signing up for a few lessons before leaving tonight.
She finally made her way back to the office and knocked on the door before poking her head inside, “Hello? Kate, are you back here?”
Kate was in the store room, putting things away. She’d knocked over a cabinet full of different kinds of stationary, and the freaking thing fell over and spilled papers all over the floor. So now she was cleaning things up, and didn’t hear the front door.
“Yeah!” Kate called back from her spot, picking up pages, organizing them, and sorting them into the cabinet. “I’m in here!”
The voice was easy to follow and Rose made her way into the back room where she found Kate on the floor. “Uh oh! Let me help,” Rose quickly crossed over and bent over to help her pick up the items and separate them, “So, do you do this often?” The question was asked with a chuckle as she made herself comfortable for the task.
Kate gave a chuckle, too. “I wish I could say that I don’t, but this isn’t the first time that fucking cupboard has fallen over.” She admitted, slipping some more papers into place. There were slots for the different sizes and colors (seriously. What was an Archery Range doing with different colors of paper?) and she was almost done.
“Thanks, Rose.” The work went quickly with two hands doing it. “...Didn’t mean to make you work right when you got here!”
“You might want to try and secure it to the wall, if you can,” Rose couldn’t help but suggest with a laugh, “And don’t worry, I’m always happy to help. I’m really adept at sorting colored paper, so this is right up my alley.” The comment earned a chuckle from Rose as she straightened up once the papers were finally sorted. At least that was over with and hopefully the cupboard won’t fall over again anytime soon.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea. I suppose I’ll head to the hardware store.” Kate nodded, eyeing the stupid cabinet as they finished up the sorting. “Ha! Well, if I’m gonna make you work, at least I picked something you’re good at.” She grinned playfully.
“All right, you want to come talk about Self Defense Class?” Kate asked, and motioned toward the break room. It was comfortable. There were nice chairs around a table, with a fridge and a sink. There was a vending machine. The whole place had been updated fairly recently.
“Thank you for that small favor. Heaven help me if you asked me to do math problems or something,” Rose countered with a laugh as she moved over towards a chair that was around the table. Much more comfortable than potentially sitting on the floor, “And yep, came here to talk about the class. I also want to bother you for potentially signing up for some archery lessons. Could be a skill that will be useful at some point.”
Kate gave a little laugh and nodded. “Me, too. Math and Science were never my best subjects.” She moved further into the break room and pulled over a three ring binder with her plans in it. “Hey, we can definitely do archery lessons. Maybe we can trade archery lessons for hand-to-hand combat classes?”
“Sure, I think I can easily make that trade. I like to think that I’m halfway decent at my job,” Rose admitted with a laugh as she agreed to the trade. That would be a much easier way to get lessons and she would be able to help her friend out as well, “Alright, show me these plans you got so far.”
Kate turned the book to show her what she had in mind. “Well, I thought we’d collect up the different instructors, they can each figure out what they want to teach, and we’ll split up an hour into ten minute segments. Each instructor gives a lecture and demonstration, then the group has a few minutes to practice the new skill before we re-group for the next instruction. Does that make sense?”
“Oh yes. That makes perfect sense. It’s also quite helpful to your body to do it in spurts and try different things. That way we can get a variety in and not make it feel like they’re not getting their time’s worth. I like that idea a lot because we each get to help do something every single session,” Rose was nodding happily in agreement. This could work out quite well for them and the people that they help train.
“I think it’ll work out really well. Provide more of a variety for our students, too. If they can only come to one class, they’ll still get value from the hour.” Kate agreed with a bright smile. “I’ll make sure to talk to the other girls, see what they want to teach our students.” And they’d have to find students, too.
“Sounds like a plan to me. Just make sure you keep me updated on everything because I certainly want to be a part of it. It’s a very exciting opportunity and I think we’ll really help some people out,” Rose commented with a smile. As long as they were able to get the students then they would offer a quality product. It may take some word of mouth, but she was willing to put in the time.
Kate nodded, smiling warmly. “I definitely will. It’s gonna take some work on our part, but I think it’ll be worth it in the long run.” Anything she could do to help people. Prevent the darkness of attack from affecting anyone else.
“Agreed. So, let’s sit down and start drawing up a plan because we might as well get all our thoughts down on paper,” Rose moved her seat so that she was closer to Kate and the two of them could begin to write their thoughts down. This was going to work and Rose was going to be proud of it.
