Merlin knew Gwen had been lulled into a false sense of security that her prank on him back in June was going to go without retaliation. It wasn't of course, Merlin had thought of an idea a while ago but then Ben had been hit with a cold which made him cranky, then the OC had been hit with a series of odd events and lately widespread anger which he had helped fight. But now things had settled and the return prank was about to be undertaken.
Merlin had managed to enchant a huge number of post it notes to attach to Gwen - almost forming a onesie type outfit over her as well as covering all of her workspace. And the best part was she’d have no idea until she sat down and they all sprang into action.
Gwen didn’t know anything was amiss. She was still reeling from the amazingness of her own prank on him, and a little surprised that he hadn’t sprung into action to get her back right away, Gwen was starting to assume that he wasn’t going to get her back.
That is, until she sat down in her office chair and the several stacks of post-it notes on her desk (she hadn’t noticed before sitting) sprang into action. They flew up in a swarm, fluttering around Gwen in waves, and then sticking themselves to every available surface--including the woman herself.
Gwen sprung up from the chair with a yelp. The post-its, now finding Gwen’s back, swarmed from behind and slathered her. She was covered from collar to wrist, to ankle in the multi-colored, sticky notes.
Of course that assumption was what Merlin was relying on, it was all the more satisfying that way. Unsuspecting victims were the most fun.
When the post it notes did their job Merlin couldn’t stop grinning, the spell was perfect and he let out a little giggle. Oh she did look a sight and there was no way they were coming off for a while. Welcome to your new office wear for today Gwen.
Gwen gave a frustrated laugh--trying to pull the post-its from her body. As soon as she had one off, though, it’d jump right back into place. She grunted. “Merlin!” She cried out into the hallway. “I can’t see my computer screen through these post-its!” Though, she was laughing now, so it didn’t pack as much punch as it otherwise might have.
Merlin decided to come and show himself at that point, “Oops” he said looking the least like a contrite man ever. He had a wide grin on his face and looked highly amused by the whole thing. “Bit of a mess you’ve made in here Gwen” he said as casually as possible.
“Very funny.” Gwen said sarcastically, though she was grinning so it was hard to take her seriously as she said it. She sighed, flapping her arms like a chicken. The post-its held tight. “This is pretty impressive, I gotta say.”
Merlin had to laugh when Gwen flapped, she really did look like a chicken too when she did that. “Thank you. I figured it was about time, you were probably thinking I wasn’t going to retaliate right?” he grinned.
“I was!” Gwen laughed. She reached over to smack his shoulder, playfully. “I seriously thought I was in the clear. And that was both a little relieving and a little disappointing.” She admitted with a grin. “This means retaliation again, you know.”
“Perfect” he grinned wider, “I was hoping that would be the case. I’ve had this in mind for a while but didn’t want to be too obvious or eager about it” he admitted before laughing, “Bring it on Miss Stacy, you have plenty of notes for ideas” he teased flicking a post it note on her arm.
While they talked, Gwen tugged a few of the post-its off and stacked them, pinning them between her fingers. But, of course, a few more flew off the stack to take their place. She snorted. “Oh, I’ll bring it. I just don’t have the magic stuff to make my revenge all fancy.”
Merlin couldn’t help giggling, oh this spell worked brilliantly. He had to remember this one. “Oh I am sure your mind is just as good as my magic. Worryingly so”
“All right, all right, nothing to see here,” Gwen said, noticing someone over Merlin’s shoulder, staring. She waved a hand in the air. “Move along.” Though, the other employee had a cell phone out to take a picture of Gwen’s post-it dress.
That reminded Merlin and he took out his own phone to take a picture for himself, “Come on now Gwen, give the people what they want” he grinned. Sending it to Audrey straight away.
Gwen snorted. Then she broke into a huge smile and struck a pose for the photos. “All right, all right. Everyone snap a picture now, so I can get back to work!” She laughed. Then she waved. “I’ve got to finish some paperwork. I’ll be lucky if I can find it under all these Post-it notes.”
Merlin chuckled as she posed for everybody then grinned at her, “Good Luck with that. Want me to bring you lunch later? They might be falling off by then”
“Yes, please. Tony’s got that Thai Truck out front. Bring me a Pad Thai and we’ll call it even.” Gwen said, giving Merlin a wink. Then she started back into her office. How was she going to get anything done today? It made for a relatively pleasant challenge. She had some phone calls to be getting to. That might have to do for a start.
“You got it” he told her with a grin before he made his way to his own office. Luckily for Gwen he’d been given permission from the bosses so he doubted they expected much work from her that morning. She’d probably even get a visit just to witness the spectacle.
