How was it that summer was almost over already and Caroline had barely spent any time at the beach? That needed to be fixed. Which is precisely why she had dragged Stefan to the beach. Plus she still needed to get the guy laid. There were probably tons of hot girls on the beach, right? And no alcohol this time. It would be a day full of fun!
The second Stefan parked, Caroline was out of the car and at his door before he could even open it. “Come on,” she called once he finally climbed out. Man, humans moved slow sometimes. “Let’s go!” she grabbed his hand dragging him towards the ocean.
Ugh, Caroline. Jesus. Stefan climbed out of the car and let her drag him down toward the beach. Why was she always so peppy? Didn’t she know how irritating it was? “I’m coming, I’m coming,” he called out as she was nearly pulling his arm from his socket.
“Damn, Caroline, why’re you so fucking peppy?”
“Are you forgetting that I was a cheerleader?” Caroline replied her own tone sort of annoyed, the smile disappearing from her face. She was thinking about going back to it too, but that was beside the point.
Finally they reached the beach. “Maybe you need to lighten up, Stefan. No wonder you can’t get laid,” she added as she removed her cover-up revealing pink, string bikini.
“Sorry,” Stefan murmured, but then he watched her stripping. “Hey, I’ll have you know that--” he started, but then was suddenly annoyed. “Wait, who are you to be lecturing me about getting laid?” Wasn’t her last boyfriend a serial killer?
“Caroline Forbes,” she replied, looking at him as if to say ‘duh’. “I’m not the one who was complaining about how long it’s been,” she reminded him. “Maybe if you didn’t complain about it so much you would be doing more of it.” That came out kind of jumbled, but ugh whatever. He was making her mad. But then she felt bad. “Sorry.”
Stefan raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, I wouldn’t exactly call you an expert on relationships. Considering what happened with your last one.” He felt bad the instant it came out of his mouth. Why was he being so irritable toward Caroline? She was a good friend. On any other day he thought she was amazing. Like a sister. But now? Now he couldn’t stand that she was… wow. This was so weird.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean that.” He said, frowning.
Stefan had a point with that one and Caroline was about to snap. Did he really have to bring him into this? But then he apologized. “Ugh,” she sighed in frustration. “Would you just quit apologizing?!”
“No,” Stefan argued, still frowning deeply. “I can’t.” He really couldn’t stop. He was argumentative in a way that wasn’t like him at all. This was so weird. He was grumpy, and everything she was saying and doing, even though he logically knew that there was nothing wrong with it, was pissing him off. “Just… go lay out on a towel and tease every man on this beach.”
“Fine!” Caroline snapped stomping off with her towel in hand. Maybe some space from Stefan was best for right now. He was being a dick. So much for their fun beach day.
