“This place is really amazing. I mean, I’ve only seen the pictures, but I’m sure we’re gonna love it. It’s owned by a trust--this old guy died? And now his kids are selling off the property. My Realtor knows their Realtor. We can probably get an offer in before it’s even officially on the market.” Anna said as they wandered up the pathway to a beautiful, four bedroom house.

The Realtor met them at the door and let them into the house. It had fresh carpet and paint, tile in the kitchen, and lots of natural light.

Anna beamed, turning to explore down the hallway and into the bedrooms.

Wow. Anna rambled a lot. Had she always rambled this much? Caroline almost said something, but then she remember it was because of Anna they were getting a new house. Entering the house was not a problem for her since technically no one owned it. She began to explore the house with Anna.

“You’re right,” she told Anna. “This house is pretty great. Even the kitchen looks amazing. I’m sure you can do a lot of cooking in there.” Caroline definitely didn’t cook, one she didn’t need to and two she wasn’t very good at it. Past experience had taught her that much. Then they were off to the rooms. “Look at how big the rooms are,” even the ones that weren’t the master, well all but one room at least. But there were four rooms and three of them.

Ugh, did Caroline always have to point out the differences between them? Anna ate, Caroline didn’t. Get over it. Anna didn’t say anything, though, because it was Caroline. Her best friend.

“There are three really big rooms. And hey, the fourth isn’t tiny.” Anna said, motioning. They were positioned in such a way that each had their own bit of hallway. It was the perfect house for a group of college kids sharing a place.

“We’ll just have to find a fourth roommate. Shouldn’t be a problem. And ooh, look,” she motioned to the window. “Hot Tub!”

That actually put an idea in Caroline’s head. She did know someone who was looking to move, but he was a guy. And who knew how Anna would feel about living with a guy. She could be so immature about these things sometimes. Caroline figured it’d be best to bring that up later.

She was distracted by the sight of the hot tub anyway. “Oh!” Caroline said her eyes lighting up. “That’s perfect!”

Anna bet that Caroline had one of those strings that women wore as bathing suits. It seemed the Caroline thing to do, really. To be the center of attention. Ugh, it was so irritating how much she liked being around people all the time.

“Let’s go check it out.” Anna said, though there wasn’t brightness or happiness in her voice. She turned to head out through the kitchen and sliding glass door to the backyard.

Caroline followed her into the backyard. “It’s nice,” she commented as they made their way over to the hot tub. “You know what would make the back yard even better though? A pool.”

“Jeez, Caroline,” Anna snapped before she could stop herself. Why was she so angry with Caroline? Why was it that her best friend was grating on her nerves so much today? She couldn’t seem to control it. “A hot tub’s not good enough for you? You have to have a pool, too?” She folded her arms across her chest, angrily.

“Who doesn’t want a pool?” Caroline shot back. “What? Rich little princess doesn’t want to spring for one? You do realize I don’t even need you or your money. I don’t need any of this. I can have whatever the hell I want.”

“Right. That’s exactly the way friends want to be treated, Caroline.” Anna snapped. “Keep throwing it in my face, why don’t you. The whole world is beneath you. You’re so much better than everyone else.” She stepped forward and lifted a finger to poke into Caroline’s shoulder. “I’m not afraid of you, even though I know you think you’re so superior.”

Caroline merely laughed at Anna poking her. Was she serious. Caroline was a fucking vampire. She could barely even feel that. “Look at you. So scary. Poking. I mean really Anna?” The anger was slowly leaving her voice, replaced mostly by amusement.

“Oh yeah?” Anna wasn’t going to let Caroline patronize her. She lifted her hand again to give Caroline’s shoulder a full-palmed shove. Of course, Caroline was a fucking vampire, but that didn’t mean Anna was afraid of her. Actually, the vampire part was really pissing her off more than anything else.

Caroline didn’t even budge when Anna shoved her. Her amusement was gone though. She had enough of that now. Just who did Anna think she was. Trying to shove her? Did she seriously think she could hurt her. “Okay,” Caroline said flatly. “That’s enough.” And with that she picked Anna up and threw her over her shoulder, not in a violent way, more in a way she would a child throwing a temper tantrum. “Time to go,” she began to carry Anna back to the car.
