Who: Lucy and Peter
What: Reassuring her soon to be married older brother
When: Last week of July
Where: Their home
Warnings: Low/None
Lucy was so excited for her brother. She couldn’t believe the wedding was so soon. She’d ordered them in pizza and they were now sat watching an old comedy show while eating it. Lucy had a face mask on and was filing down her brothers nails, who was simply letting her get on with it. Peter was such a good sport.
“So are you still okay? No nerves or anything?” she asked him curiously, because she thought for sure she’d be nervous. But then they’d been together so long she guessed it wasn’t that big of a change.
Peter could hardly believe that in a few short days he and Caspian would be getting married. He, Caspian and Susan had gone to pick up the tuxes earlier in the week and they were now hanging in their closet. Peter had not seen Caspian in his when they’d tried them on one final time and he was very much looking forward to seeing him in it on Saturday.
Their parents and Edmund were arriving Wednesday night and Peter was looking forward to seeing them. Luckily, the three of them were staying in a nearby hotel, because there certainly was not room enough for his entire family to stay in their house. “None. Well, not about the wedding.” There was one thing that Peter was nervous about, but it was something he had never mentioned to Lucy before.
Lucy was kind of glad that their parents and brother weren’t going to try and stay here with them, that really would be a case of overcrowding. She still felt conflicted at times that she was invading their space, especially once they were married. She didn’t like the idea of living alone but it might be nicer for Peter and Caspian to have the place to themselves again.
“Okay, well what else are you nervous about?” she asked him, curious and wanting to help if she could.
Peter didn’t mind Lucy living with them. He really didn’t and Caspian had never said anything to him about wanting her to move out, so for the time being there was no reason for Lucy to leave.
When she inquired further about what was bothering him, Peter sighed, “A couple of years back, one of the times when Cas and I broke up, he slept with someone else.” When he’d found out about it, when they had gotten back together, Peter had been a little jealous, but he’d understood. “Anyway, Caspian is still friends with this bloke, was friends with him before it happened. He’s coming to the wedding and he has a boyfriend now, so I’m not worried about him coming, but the four of us are going out Friday night and I suppose I’m nervous about meeting this other guy that Caspian has been with.” In Peter’s case Caspian was the only guy that he’d ever been with. He’d come close while they were broken up that time, but couldn’t go through with it, because he’d still been hung up on Caspian.
Lucy would have been reassured to know that, no doubt it would come up at some point and she could worry less about it.
“Oh Peter” she breathed, “I had no idea” she said, she had known they’d split up but when they’d gotten back together Peter had been his usual happy self so she had no idea anything had happened. “Caspian adores you, you’re going to be married and this guy was nothing more than a blip. You’re going to be Caspian’s husband and he’s going to be yours, just remember that” she told him, moving to give him a hug.
Peter hugged his sister back, “I know and it’s not as if I’m worried that anything is going to happen, but more that it’s going to be awkward with his coming to the wedding.” Peter regretted the way he’d reacted when he’d realized that Caspian had invited Marcus to the wedding, but he wasn’t going to tell Lucy about that, “And yes it was quite a few years ago, but this will be the first time I’m meeting him.”
Lucy nodded as she pulled back, “How did he even get invited?” she asked, “I mean not that he shouldn’t be because it’s all in the past but still, there’s gonna be a level of discomfort all around right?”
"Caspian invited him. They're still friends." Peter had been so busy at the time they had done the invitations, with work and other wedding planning things, that he hadn't even realized that Marcus' name had been on the list, "They were friends before it happened. I mean, I've known they were still friends and I've never really had a problem with it, but this will be the first time I'll actually be meeting him."
“Ah right” she still thought Caspian should have at least checked first but that was between Caspian and Peter and not something she should get involved in. “Well, he’s coming to your wedding so whatever has happened in the past you need to try and leave it there, convince yourself he’d just an old friend and try to go from there. But let Caspian know if you need reassurance yeah? He should understand that”
“We’ve talked about it a lot since his RSVP came a few weeks ago.” Peter said, reaching for his drink on the coffee table and taking a sip, “I just don’t know what to expect.” Peter hadn’t realized until recently that he’d never actually even seen a picture of Marcus. He had no idea what he looked like and he was embarrassed to admit that he was curious if there were any similarities between them and if that had anything to do with Caspian sleeping with him during their breakup that time.
“I get that” she nodded, “He’s a bit of an unknown for you but I am positive you’ll be okay once you meet him” She reassured her brother, at the end of the day Caspian and Peter had made a commitment to each other which was going to be legal very soon. Nothing and nobody would change that.
“I mean, I’m sure I will, but you know how nerve wracking it can be when you’re faced with something you’re not familiar with.” Most people would have been nervous about getting married, but Peter was more nervous about meeting Marcus, “Meeting him and his boyfriend is going to be interesting.”
“I know but I bet everything will be fine and you’ll wonder why you were ever worried in the first place” she told him, “Then you’ll be getting married and the only thing you’ll think about will be Caspian being your husband.”
Peter smiled and reached out to try and ruffled Lucy’s hair affectionately, “Since when did our roles reverse? Shouldn’t I be giving you advice since I’m the older brother?” Peter was extremely grateful to Lucy and was glad that she appeared to be wiser than her age. He certainly wouldn’t have been able to have this conversation with Edmund; at least he wouldn’t have gotten the same responses. And he wasn’t sure what sort of advice he would have gotten from Susan.
Lucy smiled, "Being older doesn't make you wiser all the time Peter" she told him, "Besides I've watched you guys together for a long time and if anybody is more in love than you two then I've never met them" Edmund was definitely not someone to talk to at a time like this. Lucy wasn't sure what Susan would say but she'd try at least. Luckily Peter had confided in her and if there was one thing Lucy believed in above all others it was her brother.
