Who: Kate Kane and Elsa
What: Kate gets affected by the spell
When: today
Where: their place
Rating: PG-13 for violence and language
Kate had been irritable all day, and a little violent. She’d broken the towel rack in the bathroom, and then stomped around a bit before sinking into the couch and staring at the ceiling, wondering what was wrong with her life and why it was so boring. She didn’t want to talk to anyone. Her phone beeped and she ignored it. She was pretty sure if anyone tried to talk to her now she’d bite their heads off.
Elsa had noticed a number of grumpy people at the studio that morning but figured it was just one of those days for some. Still she was rather glad when she headed home, entering the living room she smiled when she saw her fiancee, "Hey gorgeous, how's your day?" She asked moving to press a kiss to Kate's lips as usual.
"Too shitty to deal with this." She pushed Elsa away to keep from kissing her. "You're too cheerful." It grated on her nerves in a way that set her whole body on edge.
“What’s wrong?” Elsa frowned, worried, “Has something happened?” she asked, looking Kate over. She didn’t look physically hurt.
Kate looked up at her balefully. “Stop hovering. Nothing happened, I’m fine, you don’t have to act like my father.”
“Kate, I’ve only just walked in. How am I hovering? Or being like your father?” which she was trying very hard not to take too personally. Apparently the people she worked with weren’t the only ones who had gotten out of bed the wrong side that morning.
“By hovering!” Kate got to her feet, and threw her hands in the air. “I’m fine. I’m not hurt, I’m not going to get hurt. You don’t need to constantly assume that something has happened just because I’m pissed off!”
“Alright fine” Elsa said, obviously she wasn’t fine but pushing the issue wasn’t going to help either of them right now. “Do you want anything for dinner or will that be considered hovering and piss you off as well?” she asked, turning to move to the kitchen.
Glaring at her back, Kate watched Elsa move into the kitchen. “How can I know you won’t try to fuck with the food?” She didn’t often curse in front of Elsa, and it was proving really hard not to right now.
“And why exactly would I do that?” Elsa asked, just managing not to roll her eyes, her fiancee was definitely on a roll today. Something was very wrong.
“Why wouldn’t you? It’s not like you can cook anyway.” Kate leaned against the doorframe, arms folded. “Or do much of anything except worry and wring your hands.”
“Never said I was going to cook” Elsa replied before she stopped and looked over at Kate at her next words, “Is there a particular reason you’ve decided you want to insult me or is this all part of you being ‘fine’?” she asked.
Hands balling up into fists, Kate felt dangerously close to snapping. “I don’t even know why I proposed. You’re a freak. Just like all the freaks from my dreams.”
Okay now she knew something was wrong and potentially something OC crazy because the Kate she knew would never be this cruel. “Kate stop it” she said, trying her hardest not to be upset.
“You stop it.” She pointed at Elsa, tone dark and threatening. Kate’s eyes flashed as anger bubbled up and before she knew what she was doing she was putting her fist through the wall.
Elsa felt her power prickle along her skin in response to Kate’s tone and small ice sparks left her fingers when she jumped in surprise as her fiancee put a hole in the wall. “That’s enough, what are you doing!?”
Kate’s knuckles were bleeding when she pulled her hand back. She looked at her skin, then lifted her gaze to Elsa. “I can’t deal with you right now.” This was technically Elsa’s place so she couldn’t kick Elsa out. “Don’t make me take you out.” She pushed over a lamp, sending it crashing to the floor.
“Don’t be silly” Elsa admonished, though she was getting more and more panicked, “Look at your hand, you need to get that seen to” She didn’t move towards her but she was looking at her with great concern.
Kate stepped into the kitchen, expression dark. It was like she didn’t notice her hand was bleeding. “You don’t get to tell me what to do. Who are you to tell me what to do?!”
"Your fiance and the one who loves you very much" Elsa told her, back straight as Kate moved closer.
“Do you really think that gives you the right?” Kate stopped in front of Elsa, her hands fists and her voice strained. “You’re worthless. I don’t even know why I’m bothering.”
“You don’t think that” Elsa said, though her voice wasn’t as steady as she would have liked, “I don’t know what’s wrong but this isn’t you”
Kate pounded her fist on the counter. She wasn’t superhuman, but there was enough force there to bounce a plate into the sink. “Yeah, I think that.” She turned, whatever thread of herself that was left telling her to leave before she actually hit Elsa. “I’m out of here.”
"Kate, stop it's not safe" For her or for anybody Kate might run into, not with her temper this high. Reaching out she tried to place her hand on her fiances arm.
She smacked away Elsa’s hand, jerking away and then a moment later, blind rage flooded her and she rushed at Elsa!
Elsa, reacting on instinct raised her hands and the next thing she knew Kate was frozen in place. Shaking she moved closer, laying her hand against the ice. It would not hurt her but would keep her from any more outbursts, now she just had to work out what to do.
