Irisa was slumped on the couch, idly flicking through tv channels when she heard Myrcella come through the front door. Shuffling herself a bit lower into the couch, she waited for her friend to find her. The papers from Alucard were spread out on the coffee table after she’d spent the afternoon looking over them. She couldn’t decide what she was going to do, so eventually she’d stopped looking at it all and channel surfed.
Myrcella was glad they were back in the house again after all the worry when people had thought it was the end of the world. There were still things that needed fixing on the house but Jeremy was being wonderful about sorting it all out.
After her shift at the bookshop she’d decided to grab a drink from Baxter’s before catching the bus home. Entering the house she found Irisa on the sofa, “Oh I’m sorry I’d have got you a drink if I’d have known you were home. No training today?” she asked softly as she came to sit with her friend.
"Nope, just watching tv," Irisa replied, flicking to the next channel without really paying attention to what it was showing. "It's ok though, not hungry," she told her friend. Truth be told she hadn't eaten or drunk anything all day, she just wasn't in the mood. "Good day?" She asked, putting the remote down next to her it the channel on some shopping show.
“Doesn’t look like a lot of watching is going on” Myrcella said looking at her friend in concern, “Yeah it was nice. The shop was fairly busy so the time went quickly for me and Capable” she said, “You want to talk?”
Irisa shrugged and sighed. “I’ve been looking at all the stuff Alucard found for me. I don’t know what to make of it all,” she gestured to the papers on the table. “Do I want to find my birth parents? Do I want to know why they didn’t look for until years later? Why didn’t Nolan just tell me?” she rambled off.
“Oh Irisa” she said, moving closer to hug her friend, “I’m so sorry. I don’t know that anybody can answer those questions except you. If you don’t find them, say you put all this stuff away and don’t look at it again, could you do it and never wonder?”
Irisa was quiet for a second as she contemplated Myrcella's words. "I think I'll always wonder, but if I find them, what if they're still in this cult? What if they still want me to be involved or something?" She asked, not really expecting an answer. Like Myrcella had said, only Irisa could answer those sorts of things. "And Nolan...if I go looking and find them, will I hurt him? He's my father, the man who raised me, not these creepy cultists," she rambled off.
"If they are then you know how to take care of yourself now and you aren't alone. You know Alucard or I would go with you" Not that Myrcella could offer anything except moral support. "He knows that Irisa. Nobody could ever replace him"
“I know...but he went through so much to keep it all from me, it must have been for a good reason don’t you think?” Irisa asked with a little shrug. “I know you’d go with me and thanks, it means a lot. I just need to figure out if I want to go,” she paused and turned her gaze back to the papers. “I can’t imagine them anymore, can’t remember them. Do I want to?”
“I imagine he was trying to protect you” Myrcella said, she’d always gotten the impression that Nolan was very protective. “I guess that’s the question and it’s only one you can answer” she said, squeezing her friend and pressing a kiss to her hair.
Irisa huffed. She knew Nolan wasn’t trying to hurt her by keeping this secret for so long. He probably got to the point where telling her seemed a bit pointless and if Irisa hadn’t settled down and made friends here she would probably have been happy to carry on without asking questions. “I don’t want to think about it anymore,” she announced, using her foot to push the coffee table away. “I’m supposed to have a birthday soon, can we have a party?” she asked Myrcella.
Myrcella couldn't imagine exactly how it must feel but on some level she felt she understood better than some. For reasons she wasn't yet willing to explore. "Of course. We'll have the best party" she promised, "So when is it?"
Irisa looked at the paperwork where it lay on the table she’d just pushed away. “August 13,” she told her friend before looking up at her. “Is that enough time to put something together? I don’t really have many friends,” she shrugged.
“That is plenty of time” Myrcella assured her, “Don’t you worry, we’ll have a fun party for you. I promise”
