Alucard had seen the moment Integra should have stopped fighting but he’d been unable to get to her. Perhaps it was fortuitous and it had definitely been an accident but that hadn’t stopped him wanting to kill the one who had hurt her. He’d tamped down that need in order to look after her, taking her straight to the hospital and staying with her even when they had tried to make him leave the room.
Now he was trying to keep her in one place so she could actually heal, “You are without a doubt the worst patient ever” he told her, not for the first time. Though there was still affection in his tone.
Integra was stubborn. Pigheaded. Whichever term applied best at the moment. She hadn’t wanted to stop, either, and she was just as at fault for getting hurt as her opponent. She had twisted hard to get out, a lot harder than she meant to, and hadn’t done herself any good. At least she could say she went out with a winning record. Not that it made her happy.
“There’s obviously things I can do with one arm working, Alucard. Honestly, you’d have me in bed.” She snipped a bit at him, she’d already refused pain medications, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t feeling pain. She was. It made her cranky. “I hate sitting in bed all day.” she huffed.
“Hate it all you like but that is the way it has to be. I’m not having you do more damage because you are too obstinate to know when to quit” he replied, “If you are in pain Integra then take something to ease it” he added raising an eyebrow pointedly. He knew her well enough to know she was putting a brave face on it.
She gave him a Look. It was pointed but defeated. She knew well enough that he meant it. “Fine. As long as you don’t strap me into bed and allow me to do something. I cannot just be lazy.” she drew in a deep breath, winced a little then sighed. “I suppose I can’t make you make me quit, I did it to myself and it’s too late now.” she looked up at him. “Fine, fine. I don’t like medicating myself either.”
Alucard definitely meant it, as much as he respected her he would not allow her to injure herself further with her stubbornness. “I will not tie you down unless you give me cause to” which was as much as he would promise. “I understand you don’t like it but you are not invincible darling, your body sometimes needs help to heal” he told her in a softer tone.
Integra sighed a bit as she got up from where she’d moved herself and headed back towards bed. “I know, I know. I did good this time too.” she frowned a touch before pushing hair out of her eyes with her right hand. “You know I prefer to keep working, is there anything you’ll allow me to do here?” she teased a bit. She paused on her trek to the bed to kiss him on the cheek. “I know, I’m not invincible, but I wish I was.”
“I’ll find things to keep you occupied my love” Alucard promised, “I won’t allow you to get too bored” And he wouldn’t because he knew how much it would annoy him to be laid up. “I wish you were too my darling, it would be easier on my heart” he returned her kiss.
She sulked her way into bed and got comfortable. Which was a monumental task that left her more than a little irritated at herself. “You better not.” or she’d find a way to make his life interesting. Integra settled and sighed. “You can’t say I don’t give it my all. I don’t do things half way, do i?” She rolled her eyes at her shoulder. “So. I should probably call my father, huh?”
Alucard moved to sit next to her on the bed, taking one hand in his own while brushing her hair back from her face with the other. “You never do things by half” he agreed before nodding, “You should. He’ll want to know how you are”
She leaned into his hand. "Indeed, I don't see the point in doing things by half, one would end up redoing so much that way." She shifted to kiss his cheek before she called her father. She didn't care what time it was, things needed to be said before she changed her mind or took her meds. It took longer than she expected, and she spent much if it frowning. But she was adamant and in the end he had given up fighting with her. After all he much preferred this work to his daughter getting punched for a living. Danger with purpose was much better than without.
She tossed the phone aside and leaned on Alucard, tired. "I hate this, I hate being injured."
Alucard had been going to leave her to speak to her father but when the first frown appeared he had instead moved to sit beside her, arm around her shoulders. Just a silent support. Her father was secretly happy, Alucard had known he would be and that the danger she would now face she would have protection from in the form of Alucard himself which was better than when she was fighting alone.
"I know my love" Alucard said, pressing a kiss to her head. "But we will focus on your recovery"
Integra would have dragged him back either way. Sometimes dealing with her father left her drained. They got along well, usually, but sometimes they butted heads and left Integra exhausted. Tonight had been one of the trying calls, but it ended on a better note. He could appreciate the fact she’d rather face things head on than ignore them any longer. After all, he’d begun to worry she wouldn’t ever take an interest.
She leaned into Alucard. “I think I’ll be a good girl and take my meds, things ache and now I’m exhausted.” she gave him a little bit of a pout, it cost her to admit that she wanted her meds.
Alucard pressed a kiss to the top of her head, “Medication and rest is just what you need darling” he said shifting to kiss the pout from her lips before retrieving everything she needed. He wouldn’t leave her, he’d rest with her and hold her as she slept. For her comfort as well as his own.
