Who: The Prince Brothers.
What: Thanks to the dreams, one of them is suddenly blind.
Where: Eddie’s house.
When: July 22, morning.
Rating: Low.
Status: In progress.
It was unsettling enough to dream about landing in a thicket and becoming blind, it was another thing entirely to wake up and legitimately be blind. Especially when one went to bed being able to see perfectly well. So, naturally, Edward is in panic mode. By sheer luck his phone had been near him and Siri had done all the work to call Tom, and, maybe against good judgment, Edward has gotten out of bed to try and do … Something. Anything.
Not being able to see was harder than he would think. He was learning how little he knew his new house, and that made him more alarmed than before. Unable to do anything, he stumbled and knocked his way over to the couch, where he sat to wait for help to come.
Tom wasn’t wearing socks. Or underwear. When his phone rang in the morning, he’d been woken from a deep sleep. At the sound of his brother’s voice, he’d pulled on pants, a shirt, and shoes and rushed out the door. Tom had never heard Eddie sound so scared, so unsure, so devastated before. At least Eddie had dreamed about becoming blind, so he… had some experience with it?
Tom was at his place in minutes, having probably broken a few traffic laws as he rushed along the way. Then he was knocking loudly on the front door, hair a mess, nerves twisting his stomach. “Eddie?”
The knock perked up Eddie. Thank God, he thought, thank God. He wiped his eyes (even though he totally wasn’t crying) and got off the couch. There was the sound of him stumbling and running into things, followed by creative curses, before Eddie was fumbling with the lock of the door.
“Tom?” he asked, opening the door and looking at what he hoped was his brother.
“It’s me.” Tom said, fighting back a gasp at the sight of his brother there on the other side of the door. He was obviously blind. Tom could tell by the… y’know… not focusing? And stuff? But he prided himself on being the best big brother ever, and wasn’t about to let this shake him. He had to be strong and unafraid for his brother’s sake.
“Here, let me help you,” he said, and stepped through the doorway to help Eddie back to the sofa. “What happened??”
There was the briefest sense of relief at the sound of Tom’s voice. Edward reached out to grip tightly to his brother’s shirt, following him as he moves back to the comfort of the couch. As much as Edward competed with his brother, there’s no one else he’d rather have with him at that time. At least no one else who’d understand. He took a deep inhale of breath.
“I don’t … I don’t know,” he said, on the edge of hysterics. Mostly in hysterics. “I was dreaming. I was with Rapunzel and it was great, but when I went to leave her I fell into a thicket and went blind. And then when I woke up I couldn’t see. I can’t see, Tom!”
“I know. I know, it’s okay.” Tom said, though he had absolutely no idea if it was going to be okay or not. He moved with his brother, helping Eddie carefully back to the sofa to sit down. “I knew this happened in the Dreams, but… I had no idea it was going to affect you like this.” He sat down beside his brother. “Your eyes are still there, though. They’re just… not working.”
Eddie moved easily enough with the careful guidance from his brother. Tom’s words seemed to ignite more panic than calm, though.
“You knew? You couldn’t have casually said, by the way, Ed, you’ll dream about going blind so watch out for that.” Edward’s hands went to his face. Where his beautiful eyes were sitting, useless, gazing blankly at nothing. “Do they … Do they look all right?” He’d hoped they didn’t get scratched up or anything in the thicket. Then he seemed to remember his priorities. “What do I do, Tom? How do I tell mom and dad? How do I tell anybody? Should I go to a hospital?”
