He should have been looking at the menu as he waited in line, but honestly his mind had been elsewhere. That was becoming something of a bad habit.
Wash looked at the smiling man behind the counter, then moved his eyes upwards towards the menu. What was that one that York always got? A caramel something-or-other? Jesus his memory...
"Uh," Wash started, his eyes still on the menu and starting to feel like an idiot. "Yeah, can I..uh..." he sighed and turned his eyes back to the young man waiting patiently for him. "Look, I'm sorry, but can I get a medium coffee with cream and sugar...and maybe a shot of caramel?"
Yeah, it was a boring order and not exactly on the menu and Wash figured as a barista, the guy behind the counter would not be thrilled with the idea of making a custom order. But really all he wanted was a cup of coffee. Nothing too fancy. He wasn't ready for fancy yet.
