Haymitch couldn’t remember how this girl had been found but her marketing awareness score in her first interview had been ridiculously high so he’d wanted to meet her himself. To better get an idea of what she wanted out of the job, especially since come September it looked like she was going to be attending university. He assumed she would quit then unless she wanted to stay on part time which would certainly be something he would consider depending on how well she did over the summer.
Opening the door at the knock he smiled and nodded to her, “Miss Maximoff, I’m Haymitch Abernathy, please come in” he said standing back to let her enter the room.
Wanda was nervous as she waited for the door to be answered. She had been to job interviews before, after all she and Pietro had worked incredibly hard to get here in the first place. She took a breath and the door opened. Smiling up at the man, she reached out to shake his hand. “Nice to meet you Mr Abernathy,” she said, her accent wrapping the syllables of his name around her tongue. Her English was good, but she still had a moderate accent. “Thank you,” she entered the room and waited for him to shut the door and tell her where to move to next. “I hope you’re well today,” she offered.
Haymitch quite liked her accent, it was nice and also with her extremely good grasp of English showed her intelligence. Languages were not easy after all. “I’m very well thank you. Please take a seat” he indicated the chairs in front of his desk, taking the one opposite her, “I hope you are well? Not too nervous” he smiled.
“Thank you,” Wanda smiled, taking one of the seats he had indicated. “I’m a little nervous I’m afraid. I have had a few interviews before but they don’t seem to get much easier,” she laughed.
“Well hopefully I can ease some of those nerves” he told her, “Your scores on the assessment test were very impressive. Though with your interest in the human mind I guess that isn’t so surprising. Tell me what do you hope to do once you have obtained your degree?” he asked her interestedly.
“Well I’m very interested in neuropsychology. I like to know how and why people do what they do and how the physiology of the brain can affect that. Who knows, perhaps we could one day predict that someone was going to be a murderer because of the structure of their brain,” Wanda enthused. “There’s a lot more to it, but I imagine my time after university will be mostly research based,” she told him, making herself sit back in the seat.
Haymitch smiled, she was certainly enthusiastic and knowledgable. He liked her. “Well as you know, here, we are a PR company so knowing how people think definitely helps us when targeting marketing and things like that. We have a small research department who deal in that area which I imagine could potentially be right up your street” he told her, “Am I correct in assuming it’s just a summer position you’re looking for?” he asked her.
“To start with, but if you like me then I would like to consider perhaps working part-time for you? Might that be an option?” Wanda asked, crossing her legs and folding her hands in her lap.
“That would absolutely be an option if you felt like you could” Haymitch told her, “But for now let’s just get you settled in with the team. Oh,” he added like he’d forgotten something, “You have the job by the way” he grinned.
Wanda grinned brilliantly at him, excited at the prospect. “Are you serious? Oh thank you so much!” she reached out to shake his hand again. “I can’t wait to tell my brother!” she enthused.
Haymitch chuckled and he shook her hand, “I’m very serious and you’re welcome” he replied, “I have a good feeling about you Wanda, I look forward to working with you” he smiled, “I hope your brother takes you out in celebration”
Wanda all but groaned. “Let’s hope not. His idea of a celebration is a ten mile run followed by weight training,” she joked. “But thank you so much, I won’t let you down,” she promised. “So when would you like me to start?”
“Oh a fitness fan huh? I can’t say I’d consider that a celebration either” Haymitch smiled, “As soon as you’d like, maybe after the July 4th weekend?” he suggested.
“It’s his life! If he couldn’t run I think he’d actually go crazy,” Wanda smiled and shook her head. He would be a nightmare. I mean look at how he had been when there were vampires roaming around and they had been told to stay inside. “I can absolutely do that! When should I be here on the monday?” she asked.
“I have a friend who is similar, she’s very much an outdoor kind of girl” Haymitch nodded in understanding. “Let’s say 9am then you can work out what hours you’d like to do with your team” They were all pretty easy here with regards to working hours.
“Ok, 9am it is,” Wanda smiled brightly. “Thank you so much! Um, what’s the dress code?” she asked.
“Smart casual” he told her, “Leaning more towards the casual. Black jeans are preferred if you wear jeans otherwise trousers, dresses, whatever you like really”
“I can do that,” Wanda nodded confidently. “I’m looking forward to working for you Mr Abernathy,” she smiled, excited for what monday held for her.
