The music in the bar was a mixture of old country, classic rock, and 80s hair metal, and it was played on a low register, loud enough to hear, but quiet enough to not drown out conversation. It was relatively full for the evening, with bikers moving about and mingling at a few locations around the bar, some flirting with the women that were there, the place lit up in puffs of smoke, breaking a rule/law that Mal didn't bother enforcing. The chef put out a couple plates of burgers not made from the most 'fresh' of ingredients, and the one bartender at the bar took them out and delivered them.
The bar itself was pretty empty, save for two surly men who were keeping mostly to themselves save when they felt a need to make a comment about government or some unnecessary thing. They were older, full beards, and their skin was worn and leathered from the long lives they'd lived. Really, the place was plenty busy for Mal's standards, and in reality Mal wouldn't have it any other way. Perfectly balanced, the right kind of crowd; the sort that didn't get too loud, make too many messes, or cause too much trouble. If they did, they were usually good enough to pay double for it.
Mal himself was behind the bar, wiping a new spot clean, dressed in red button up wool shirt, black suspenders, and a pair of old jeans that probably hadn't been replaced since he was at least 5 years younger. When one of the surly duo ordered a refill, he took the beer and filled it up rather quickly without a word, sliding it back over to him and went back to his cleaning.
The place was dark, there weren't any windows to speak of, save on the door itself, which was blacked out. The lighting was dim, and the neon lights were beginning to falter, plenty of them already burned out. He liked it this way though, he didn't plan on running some club, or fanciful bar; no, this place was for a specific type of crowd. The bar was meant not to party in, or even get drunk in, but to escape reality and the world a bit and find a sense of Serenity.
Many a people gave him a hard time for that name for what became a biker bar, but he loved it. It's what people were looking for; everyone, good, bad, misunderstood, all they wanted was an oasis of serenity at some point in their existence. He had no qualms about giving it to them either.
He knew Kyu would be coming in shortly, she always made good on her promise to see him; so he made sure to keep a spot open at the bar for her. He'd have had the drink already out for her, but he wasn't sure what she might be going for tonight.
