It's for a friend...

What: Bella is shopping for a pet for Caprica
When: Sometime today
Where: Fluttershy's Menagerie
Ratings/Warnings: PG-13 for ... several different meanings of hairless cat
Status: Complete
On the way to pick up Caprica, Bellatrix felt compelled to stop. There was this little shop, and she could see animals in it. Curiosity compelled her, and maybe some motivation to appeal to Caprica's affections in some small, furry or scaley way. She parked, and got out of the car. She'd worn a corset she all but fell out of, and walked in with an air of owning the place and not really caring.
No one would ever believe that the pet shop had even been touched by the events of Friday, or the subsequent earthquakes. With the help of Fluttershy's new hire and her fillyfriends, she'd managed to get everything fixed and every critter rounded up. They had even helped her swap out the few cracked fish tanks for fresh ones.
Fluttershy was covered in bites and scratches, some of them bad enough to need bandaging, but she was stubborn at her core and had opened the shop up anyway. Clarice, she'd let have the day off. It was only her, the still slightly jumpy animals, and her new customer.
She immediately had a bad feeling about the woman, but greeted her anyway, "Oh hello, welcome to Fluttershy's Menagerie... can I... can I help you?"
Bellatrix looked the girl over and dismissed her as timid and not particularly interesting. She'd probably break easily. She scowled at herself over that thought, and inspected one of the cages. She ignored the question and peered down at a tiny hamster, that looked up at her curiously.
All of those assumptions were correct, or at least Fluttershy wouldn't have argued any of her points. However, she approached the odd woman anyway. It was probably little bit out of curiousity - how were those staying IN that thing anyway? - and a little bit out of fear for the hamster in question.
"Oh please don't stare at them too much, they're all shaken up already over the earthquakes."
"I think we're all shaken up over the earthquakes." Bellatrix sounded indifferent. She bent over, miraculously not falling out of her top, and reached in to touch the hamster.
"You don't seem that shaken up, if you don't mind my-- NO, you can't just--!" Fluttershy immediately reached a hand over to swat at Bellatrix's arm. No one just touched the hamsters, especially not right now.
She stared at Fluttershy incredulously, "Did you just slap me, lovey?"
"Oh, I..." Fluttershy realised that she had, in fact, just done that, but she wouldn't have called it a slap so much as just a light swatting. Her voice went down 3 decibels, "I... I'm sorry, I don't think I slapped you, no, but I did lightly swat at you, yes, it's just ... they're very very jumpy, and we had to chase them around, and they'll hurt you."
Turning up her nose, Bella moved over to another cage. The lizards drew her eye almost immediately. Bellatrix sniffed haughtily, "You don't have snakes." It seemed like this was a crime. The small ones don't count. Where were the pythons. A snake seemed important to her though she couldn't explain why.
"I have snakes, they're over here..." Fluttershy pointed to a set of tanks that had adorable little snakes in them. Nothing poisonous, of course, but she had no idea that's what her customer was looking for.
She didn't want poisonous. Just big constrictors. She looked down at the snakes, "Are they babies? Do they get bigger?" She glanced at Fluttershy appraisingly, and licked her lips.
The skittish shop owner backed up a pace at the lip licking, and shook her head, "Not babies, no. They're not meant to grow too large, they're just smaller snakes. They'll get a bit bigger than that if you take care of them, of course, but not more than a foot or two long, I don't think."
"I've a fondness for pythons, and constrictors. Something about all that...muscle, squeezing the life out of something." She edged closer, as though stalking Fluttershy, then walked around her. A finger trailed up the woman's arm, and she leaned in and whispered, "A bit like a lover's embrace."
The contact made Fluttershy incredibly uncomfortable, and she shivered a bit. There was a part of her that still had a pony wordlessly screaming in her head when something like that happened, though she'd thought it was just a lack of attraction to men. Instead, she was beginning to think that it was just a response to being touched out of the blue with no warning.
She'd have to think about that when the scary woman was out of her shop, "I... I wouldn't know anything about that, ma'am..."
"Would you?" Bellatrix didn't generally like sharing, but Caprica might enjoy bringing Fluttershy closer to God. And she herself would enjoy corrupting someone so..innocent. She wouldn't even need pain to do it.
"I... I ..." Fluttershy tried to wrap her head around that. Was she being propositioned? Her mind went back to Carmen's face, and she frowned. She'd really liked that woman, though they weren't meant to be anything more than friends. Still, something in her felt she'd have to find another woman like that. This woman definitely wasn't.
"Oh No... I uhm," she shook her head, and lowered her voice, "Thank you very much for your... uhm... interest, but if you don't mind, I really think I'll just not know for a while longer."
"Keep that up and before you know it you'll be dead or old and never have known, and that's just a shame." She purred out the last word, then stepped away, "Your snakes are too small and everything else is too furry."
The woman's words rattled her, and she looked down at the floor a bit. Maybe she was right... she was probably right. But this customer definitely wasn't the woman she wanted to try such things with.
Maybe she should try being straight. Kirk would probably be a better choice, anyway. He was a decent man who knew her better. In any case, this really wasn't the time to think about such things, and she frowned, "Oh... well... I have some iguanas? Or, what about some fish?"
"Oh, oh!" Fluttershy recalled another of the pets in the shop, one that had been brought in recently, "I have a... well she's really slightly cranky ... a lot cranky, actually, but what about a hairless and cranky cat?"
Bellatrix gave her a dry look, her eyes at half-mast as she tried to imagine Caprica and a hairless cat. Then a smirk crossed her face, and she said, "It's for a friend, but the only hairless and cranky cat I want her petting is my own, sweet thing."
Fluttershy's response was an extremely confused and then somewhat deadpan stare, that soon morphed into an incredibly disturbed one. Her hands slowly made their way - both of them, in unison - to her face.
Smiling gaily, Bellatrix walked out of the shop. Really, it was more of a skip, and she even whisteled a jaunty tune.
Fluttershy watched her go, with that look still on her face. Her hands remained over her mouth for several minutes before she snapped out of it.l
