The wedding was coming up quickly and so far the planning had been going rather well as far as Peter was concerned. They had picked out their suits and a hall and were going to be going to taste cake samples soon and with Lucy and Susan’s help it seemed like they would be more than ready by August first. Peter still couldn’t believe that there was only a little over a month left before he and Caspian were finally married. After ten years of dating, they would finally be married.
Peter had had another overnight shift at the clinic and was ready to lay down and sleep for a couple of hours, but stopped in the kitchen first upon getting home to grab a bottle of water from the fridge and in the process noticed the previous day’s mail on the kitchen table. Putting the water bottle down, he decided to check if there were any RSVPs for the wedding. Picking up the mail, he started looking through it, separating the RSVPs from the regular mail. Opening them, he glanced at the names and responses, stopping on the last one as he recognized the name. His brow furrowed as he saw the confirmation of attendance.
Leaving the water bottle behind, Peter headed towards his and Caspian’s bedroom with the small card in hand, “Caspian!” He called out as he entered the bedroom, not really thinking about the fact that Caspian might have been sleeping.
The wedding plans were all that Caspian had been thinking about for the past few weeks. Since he had the most time on his hands, he was trying to narrow things down so that Peter wouldn’t have to worry about them while working at his job. He had stayed up somewhat late, debating on whether or not to invite his uncle. The man was completely against his relationship but he knew that the man would cause an uproar about the fact that his nephew hadn’t had the decency to invite him. In the end, Caspian did end up mailing out an invite before he crawled into bed.
He was the kind to sleep in, especially when his fiance worked the overnight shift as it would give them some time to cuddle in bed together. As he heard his name called, he began to stir in the bed, eyes slowly opening. He was still waking up as he heard Peter come into the room. “Morning, babe. How was work?” he asked, softly.
Peter wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed beside Caspian and not think about the RSVP card that was in his hand, but he just couldn’t, “You invited Marcus?” Peter asked, holding up the card so that Caspian could see the response on it, “Why didn’t you talk to me about this first?” He had thought that they had decided on everyone they were inviting and wondered when Caspian had sent out this invitation.
Caspian gave a yawn and wiped his eyes as he heard Peter speak. He gave his partner a confused you. “Clearly, I invited Marcus,” he replied, feeling a little annoyed. “And I didn’t realize that I need permission to invite a friend whose name was on the invite list that you looked over.” He shook his head and fought the urge to roll his eyes. “I don’t see what the problem is. We have kept in touch, online...not like that’s been a secret.”
It was entirely possible that Peter could have missed the man's name on the invite list since they had been doing so much and he'd been a little overwhelmed by it all, but he still didn't understand why Caspian had included his name in the first place, "Caspian, you've shagged him." He tried not to say it too loud in case Lucy had gotten up after Peter came into the room. "Don't you think that's going to be awkward?" Peter had never met the man who Caspian had hooked up with once when they had broken up years earlier for a short time and he couldn't help but feel that meeting him now would be incredibly awkward.
Caspian felt that this was pointless. "Yes, we had sex that one time...but he and I were friends before that whole mess even happened. And I don't get why it will be awkward, he has a boyfriend and he is just a friend, Peter. I love you and it's not like he and I discuss that one time, those many years ago. We have moved on from it and so should you. If you haven't noticed, I have been with you for all these years."
Peter sighed and ran a hand through his hair, “Do you really not understand why I have a problem with this?” This was not the conversation that Peter had wanted to have after an overnight at the clinic when he was exhausted and he didn’t understand how Caspian couldn’t see the problem here. It had nothing to do with Caspian remaining friends with the other guy since it wasn’t as if they saw each other or anything, but Peter had never even met him before Caspian had slept with him and Peter had honestly never thought the opportunity to meet would come up.
Caspian didn’t want to fight but he hadn’t expected Peter to have this kind of reaction. “You know what? Fine, I will contact him and tell him that he is uninvited and I will tell him the truth when he asks ‘why?’ That’s just one less person that I know at the wedding…” he said before getting out of the bed and starting to get dressed. He didn’t have many people showing up for him as it was and it sucked that he’d have one less person there.
“Cas.” Peter didn’t want to do this, but he’d started it and it was possible that he’d overreacted from lack of sleep, “Caspian, I’m not going to make you uninvite him.” He sat down on the edge of the bed as he watched his fiance getting dressed, “I just….it’s going to be awkward. I just wish I’d realized this sooner and we could have talked about it before instead of having a bloody blow up over it.”
"And whose fault is that? You came in here, practically looking for a fight." Caspian finished getting dressed and glanced at Peter. "I am going out...you should sleep," he said as he made to leave the room.
Jumping to his feet, Peter reached out for Caspian’s wrist, “Cas, wait.” Peter really did want to sleep and he was sure that his lack of sleep was part of the problem here and while he was a little jealous, thinking about the time he and Caspian had been broken up, he couldn’t let Caspian leave angry, “I’m sorry.”
They hadn't fought in quite some time and Caspian stopped as he felt Peter grab him. He hesitated a moment be fore glancing back at the other man. "You should get some rest," he said softly, giving Peter a somewhat blank look. Yes, he was still feeling upset but he knew that they couldn't continue this conversation at the moment. "I will be here when you wake up," he added before kissing Peter's hand and continued on his way out of the room.
As tired as Peter was, he wouldn’t be able to sleep if they were still arguing so he followed Caspian out of the room, keeping his voice even so as not to wake up Lucy if she were home, “You said he has a boyfriend, did you invite him too?” An idea was forming in Peter’s head and it could possibly be a good idea, “Why don’t we do this; when they get here, the four of us go out for drinks. Give me and Marcus a chance to get to know each other. It might make it less awkward.” He watched Caspian, waiting for his response.
Caspian paused and gave a small sigh. “You’re the one who looked at the invite. Does he have a plus one listed? The invite was for him and his boyfriend, but I don’t know if they are both coming...since I haven’t gotten a chance to see the confirmation,” he pointed out. He was surprised that Peter wanted to hang out with them but it was a step in the right direction. “I’ll run the idea past him, when I speak to him.”
Peter had to admit, he hadn’t noticed the plus one because all he’d seen was Marcus’ name and his confirmation that he was attending the wedding. “I didn’t notice.” He ran a hand through his hair, sheepishly, “Alright. And again, I’m sorry.” The last thing Peter had wanted to do was fight with Caspian upon coming home, “Do you really need to be up right now?” He also didn’t really want to go to sleep alone, but he’d understand if Caspian was upset at him still.
Caspian didn’t have to be up but he had been getting upset, but that was before he heard Peter genuinely feel guilty as he spoke. He gave a heavy sigh and he had to admit that he enjoyed spending his morning next to his sleeping fiance. Slowly, he closed the door and began to remove his clothes. “I could use a little more sleep,” he admitted.
When Caspian came back into the room and closed the door Peter felt a weight lift off his shoulders and he started getting undressed as well, “I’m really sorry that I flew off the handle like that.” Once he was down to his boxer briefs, he got into bed and waited for Caspian to join him, “I guess I’m still just a little jealous that someone else has been with you.” Most people had had multiple partners before finding the person they’d spend the rest of their lives with, but in their case Caspian was the only person Peter had ever been with.
“You have nothing to be jealous about, though. You know that I did it, mostly, to piss off my uncle...and yes, there was a part of me that wanted to feel close to someone again. However, I am with you and have been with you, for far too long to let sometime like this get in the way.” He gave a small sigh, before climbing back in the bed. “I am yours, Peter, and nothing will change that.”
