Who: Rose and Eggsy When: Early June What: Rose checks out DP Where: Dorian’s clothing store Ratings/Warnings: PG Status: Complete -- Finished in the comments
Rose had been doing remarkably well at saving her money for only important things such as groceries, bills, and the occasional treat such as new books, instead of the usual frivolities that she had bought at home. When she had heard of the new men’s clothing store opening up though, she couldn’t help but go check it out. While she was sure she would find nothing for herself there, she went with Jack in mind. Perhaps she would be able to find him a small token of her appreciation for all the help and friendship that he had provided with her since she had moved to the OC. Walking in, her first impression was that it really was quite a nice shop.
Working at the shop had suited Eggsy well so far. Dorian had been instrumental in helping him out since he got to the OC that he was determined not to fuck things up. Training on how to help people select clothing and getting used to wearing his own suit had been time consuming, but in the end he knew that he felt much more prepared for the job he was going to do. The grand opening had gone well and Eggsy now felt more relaxed about being a salesman. He was currently behind the counter ringing up a purchase when he noticed the woman come in. His attention was immediately drawn and once the sale wrapped up he made his way over to her with a smile, “Welcome to DP, anything I can assist you with today?”
Rose gave a friendly smile to the man who greeted her. “Ah, yes,” she said. “I was looking for a gift for a friend of mine. Nothing too fancy, just something small as a kind of ‘thank you’?”
“Sure, love. How good of a friend is he? We’ve got things like pocket squares, ties, and cufflinks. That’s something smaller that still says you think highly of them. Possibly cologne?” Eggsy wasn’t quite certain where she would like to go with this gift, but he knew she wouldn’t need a major article of clothing.
How good of a friend was Jack? She considered him one of her closest friends since moving here, but she had only been in California for a little over a month now. He said that they shared their Dream world, so that had to count for something as well. “Well, I would consider him a good friend,” Rose said. “Though we’ve only met recently. I just moved here, you see. I’m not sure if he has much use for cufflinks or ties, though perhaps a nice cologne?”
“Ah, then a cufflink and tie may be a little more impersonal. The cologne should be a pretty good choice. If anything he at least think of you every single time he picks it up, which is a better impression than a box of cufflinks sitting in the back of a drawer for years,” Eggsy commented as he lead her over to the back corner of a store. There were just a few different types of cologne, but all of them a little more fashionable than your regular bottle of Old Spice from the Target, “We have cards here to spray them on if you want or else you can certainly spray them in the air.”
Rose looked at the colognes. “Not those ones,” Rose said, gesturing toward two of the colognes that she knew Cal was fond of. The less she had to remind her of her ex-fiance, the better. “I’ll take a couple of the cards though. Do you have a favourite?”
“Personally, I like this one a lot. It’s not overly strong like some of the others. I think it’s important to be more subtle and not leave a cloud of fragrance behind you where you go,” he grabbed her a couple of cards before handing the bottle that he enjoyed over to her. A devious smirk appeared on his face as he leaned into her slightly, “You can always smell it on me if you want to.” Okay, sometimes he couldn’t help but blatantly flirt at this job - it was just so easy and she was quite lovely.
Rose knew that he was flirting with her, and was, actually, a little flattered. He wasn’t a bad looking guy, and the best way to get a sense of what cologne actually smelled like was to smell it on an actual human being instead of on a card. Besides, it wasn’t as though she and Jack were dating or anything, so there was absolutely no reason why she should feel guilty. “If you don’t mind,” Rose said, as she leaned forward and gave a small sniff. “Oh, that is nice. You have good taste, Mr….?”
“Too young to be a Mr, love,” Eggsy couldn’t help but laugh as she tried to call him that. And he certainly didn’t go by his last name, “And you can just call me Eggsy. What should I call you?” There was a genuine smile on his face as he asked that question. She obviously didn’t have a boyfriend, so he didn’t feel the need to not enjoy her company for this brief time. That was the only downside to meeting people at work was that sometimes you never saw them again.
“My apologies, Eggsy. I hope you’re not offended when I comment on what a peculiar name that is.” He probably heard that a lot, she was sure, and she felt a little awkward once she had commented on it. “You may call me Rose,” she said, returning his smile.
“Oh don’t worry, I hear it quite often. My actual name doesn’t fit me at all, so I’ve just gone by my nickname for a long time,” he explained to her and then nodded at her name, “Rose, lovely name. Suits you quite well since your hair is about the color of roses. So, now that we’ve picked out a cologne is there anything else I can assist you in finding today?”
“The greatest names are the ones you choose for yourself. You've chosen a good one." She touched her hair lightly when Eggsy commented on it, and looked a little pleased. She had heard a lot of come ons in regards to her name, but most of them were Shakespeare quotes or pretentious drivel from men who thought they were smarter than they actually were. "Thank you," she said. "I think this cologne is all I need for right now. You've been such a great help."
"Thank you, gotta be little different. It makes people remember you at least," he pointed out with a smile. His eyes followed as she touched her hair and wowndered how soft it truly was. He started to lead her over towards the register so he could ring her up, "And happy to help you, love. It's not every day I get a beautiful woman coming in that I can assist."
