You’re so not subtle, even I picked up on that. Who: Gaz and Kitty. What: Fancy date! When: June 6th, Gaz's birthday. Where: Fancy restaurant! Warnings: FTB shagging. Status: Complete!
Fancy Date. The kind of date where Kitty had a slit up the side of her dress, actually put on heels, and busted out the make-up kit. The kind of date where she was really glad they both had a small fortune because the wine cost an arm and a leg and Kitty felt guilty enough to make a donation at the same price to a charity while she was in the loo.
The kind of date where she couldn’t keep her eyes off of her date, even though Gaz was probably a little uncomfortable so Kitty was trying to do everything she could to help her relax. If playing footsie under the table while waiting for dessert was relaxing.
Gaz smiled at Kitty, glad that the spikes on her heels were blunt. Because really, fancy Gaz was fancy, but still Gaz - a fancy leather dress that cost more than most people’s annual income was still fancy! She took a sip of her wine and made a mental note to auction the dress off and give the profits to something. This was ridiculous.
“We can probably do something a little less fancy sometime,” Kitty admitted, her toe stroking along Gaz’s shin. “But this was… really kind of fun.”
“Yeah. Really date-like.” Gaz smiled, her purple lips arching upward higher than normal. She hadn’t even gone demon-eyed once. “It’s better when you’re around.”
“You’re just saying that because you like what this dress does to me.” Kitty smirked at her, and leaned forward. There were still things she was unsure of. Gaz being demon or demon-like was really only a small thing. She’d have dated Kurt, or Illyana. The thought of the latter nearly made her frown and wonder if Gaz was some kind of substitute. But Gaz and Illyana weren’t really all that alike, except for a general similarity when it came to not giving any fucks.
“I like being near you.” The thirst for Gaz was real.
“Well, yeah. You’re gorgeous.” Gaz cocked her head to the side. “You have to know that, right?” She reached out and squeezed Kitty’s hand.
“Yeah. I’m a lot better about believing that.” She winked. “Want to get dessert to go? This dress is starting to feel a little stuffy.”
“Sure. ... you’re hitting on me,” Gaz chuckled. “You’re so not subtle, even I picked up on that.”
“I’m subtle, I’m a goddamn ninja.” Kitty puffed out her chest, then exhaled sharply and started giggling nervously. She signaled the waiter, digging out her wallet. “Can we get the dessert to go? Thanks.”
Gaz shook her head, leaning back and smiling. “I’m paying for the next one, you know.”
“Deal.” Kitty got to her feet and held out her hand to help Gaz up. As soon as the woman was on her feet, she leaned in against her. She didn’t know if Gaz even had any body warmth. “Enjoying your birthday so far?”
Demons ran hot; Gaz was a bit like a sunning rock, always warmer than the area around her. “I am. I can’t believe you remembered.” Gaz didn’t really think people would remember her birthday.
Kitty was ice-feet queen, and she soaked up the warmth like an actual cat. “Of course I remembered your birthday.” She led the other woman out to the car, and then leaned against the door, pulling Gaz close to her while she did so. “What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t?”
“Dunno. I don’t have a lot of them.” Gaz wrapped her arms around Kitty’s waist, appreciating that she was a little shorter than her. It made cuddling easier.
Being the taller one was new to Kitty. She didn’t really mind. She leaned her head in, kissing Gaz’s forehead. “Birthdays should be happy things. Reminders you survived another year.”
“Honestly, I don’t really think about them. Years go by for me in January.” Gaz hadn’t really had a happy childhood, so birthdays weren’t really celebrated.
“Maybe you need some happy memories.” Kitty threaded her hand around the back of Gaz’s neck, and pulled her in for a steamy kiss.
“Probably,” Gaz replied. Steamy kisses were good, and Gaz was soon happily making out in a parking lot. Hey, they were young.
The sound of a group approaching with raucus laughter broke Kitty out of her spell. It was a pack of men, and she turned her head to look at them. “Can we help you? I’m a little busy here.”
“Just, you know, hand over your phones and purses and shit and you can get back to being lesbians with each other,” one of them said.
Kitty burst out laughing.
Gaz blinked and then looked at Kitty. “You go first, you had a shitty week.”
Kitty cracked her knuckles. “Boys, I’m going to embarrass you in heels.” She punched the first guy in the throat, then whirlwind kicked him in the face, giving Gaz a spoiler for the kind of knickers she was wearing. He flew back and the rest spread out.
“You can have Mr. Big,” Kitty suggested.
Gaz appreciated the view for a moment before grinning at her friend’s suggestion. “Best birthday gift ever,” she beamed. If it was possible for someone to look delighted and terrifying at the same time, Gaz did in that moment. Suddenly the ringleader grew pale as the tiny girl with purple hair leaped into the air above him, crashing down on his head.
Kitty grabbed the nearest man and got him into a headlock. “I’d make a crack about that beautiful girl dancing on the face of your buddy being my girlfriend, but I’m about to really make you regret your life choices.”
The guy Gaz had jumped on was unconscious after having a demon girl land full force on his head, so Gaz was ready to watch Kitty be awesome. And hearing the girlfriend word? Not as scary as Gaz had thought it would be.
Dropping the poor unfortunate man to the ground, Kitty gestured vaguely at Gaz. “Got someone coming behind you.”
Turning, Gaz just ramped up her fear factor, draining all of the light around her and making herself look like what she so often was, a pillar of despair in a vortex of shadow. (Gaz listened to a lot of metal, run with her.)
It was enough to set Kitty’s teeth on edge and make her heart race, so she focused on the men as they turned tail and ran, the faint scent of urine in their wake. Her heart was pounding and adrenaline made her head spin. “You bastards weren’t even a challenge.”
When they left, Gaz immediately stopped with the fear and turned to grin at Kitty. “You’re awesome.”
“For doing what?” Kitty rested her hand on Gaz’s arm, stroking lightly.
“Being you.” Gaz nodded at Kitty’s truck. “Wanna go back to my place, watch some movies or something?”
“Or something,” Kitty murmured. She shivered, as though there were some residual chill of fear in the air. She took Gaz’s hand and guided her towards the truck. “At least get these heels off.”
She might have sped the whole way.
“Yeah, my feet would hurt if I hurt for very long.” Gaz smiled, holding Kitty’s hand.
Kitty chuckled. “I may heal faster but that doesn’t make the pain go away. Painkillers don’t work very well anymore. I understand why Logan is so angry all the time.” She squeezed Gaz’s hand. “No more motrin for period cramps.”
She got out of the truck, eyes darkened, and pulled Gaz after her. She didn’t bother to let Gaz unlock the door, she phased them right through it. By the time they got to the loft area with the bed, she’d left a trail of their clothing behind her.
