Before Grim it was quite possible Athos wouldn’t have quite understood the terrible sadness Sharon was suffering at the moment. But now he very much did. He couldn’t imagine life without the sweet little animal. So after agreeing to help distract her and take her mind off things he picked up a caffeine free tea and a cheeky muffin for her and placed them on top of the paperwork he carried over to her desk.
“I assumed I couldn’t go wrong with chocolate” he said, indicating the muffin, “Though I have blueberry if you’d prefer”
Oh, man. Athos was practically a godsend in that moment. Sharon sat up a little and broke into a warm smile at the sight of him holding tea, muffin, paperwork. The smile still had a sad tinge to it. Sharon couldn’t help that part. She leaned back a little in her chair and set her hands on the baby bump rather than her keyboard.
“You are wonderful. Thank you.” It was a really stressful time--losing a beloved pet--and Sharon had all that pregnancy crap on top of it. She didn’t know what she’d do without such good friends around.
"You're welcome. Anytime" Athos said with a small smile of his own as he watched her.
He'd do whatever he could to help his friends and Sharon was a very good friend. "If you need anything else just let me know. How's the baby doing?" he asked her a question he'd ask more often as it got even closer to her due date. He worried about her working even though she was confined to desk duties.
“She’s good. I’m having some of these… Braxton Hicks Contractions?” Sharon said, reaching for the muffin right away. Chocolate anything helped. Always helped. “I ended up in L-and-D the other day because of them. I’m supposed to be taking it easy, drinking lots of water, but it’s hard when I’m normally so active.”
He smiled as she took the muffin, he knew chocolate had been the right choice. “Hard but necessary. You need to make yourself take it easy, for the little one’s sake. I could have the water cooler moved closer to your desk” he added, just thinking of it then.
“Oh, I don’t know if that’s necessary,” Sharon said, not wanting anyone to go to any extra trouble for her. But, honestly, it was a good idea. She was having a hard time remembering to drink lots of water… and she had to pee so constantly anyway. “But that’s kind of you to offer. Just ask me how much water I’ve had to drink when you remember. That’ll help me keep on track.”
Athos nodded, “Alright” he said, “I can do that. Or just drop off glasses of water each time I pass your desk, that might work too and I’ll tut disapprovingly if there are lots of full ones still left” he added teasing a little.
Sharon gave a laugh. “That would absolutely work, too. Hopefully I won’t clumsily knock them over and ruin all the paperwork on my desk.” She added, grinning. Actually, it was a pretty brilliant idea. She’d have to keep drinking them so she wouldn’t have a watery mess.
“I’ll keep my fingers crossed you don’t” he promised, “Or maybe I’ll just laminate everything first” he added putting on a thoughtful face.
“That’s definitely spill proof,” Sharon laughed still, glad that he’d come to visit. She didn’t think she was going to laugh today. Not with so much sadness in her heart. But it felt good to laugh. “But I think it might make my work a little difficult.”
“Ah there’s always a catch” Athos allowed with a smile, “I’ll simply have to hope for non-clumsiness instead” He was happy to see her smile, had been hoping he might be able to make her do so.
Athos was so kind. Sharon was thankful to have him as a friend. Though, with her connection to Aramis, how could she not have the rest of the Musketeers as allies? She continued picking at the muffin while they talked and laughed, taking her mind off her sadness. “Did you bring me lots of busy work?”
All for one and one for all really did count for their friendships too, most of the time if you knew one musketeer you’d end up knowing the rest of them. It just tended to be the way they worked. “I did indeed” he said, pushing the papers he’d placed on her desk with the muffin towards her, “Should keep you going for at least the rest of the day”
“Thank you.” Sharon accepted the stack of papers, giving him a smile. “I’d best get to work then? Do we have a deadline when this paperwork needs to be completed?
“Just as soon as possible. I didn’t give you anything too time sensitive” he said with a smile, “Let me know if you have any problems okay?”
“I will. Thank you, Athos.” Sharon said, reaching for the tea. She was going to have to do something nice for her friend to repay him for his kindness.
“Of course” Athos replied smiling before nodding and moving off to let her get to work. “Enjoy” he added before heading to his own desk.
