Myrcella was excited she’d never been involved in interviewing people before and she was pleased Tessa had wanted her input. They’d already seen two people who, while they had been nice, hadn’t had the right feeling about them. Both Tessa and Myrcella had agreed. They had two more to go and the next one was interesting. Her work history was non-existent but she had been very sweet when she had come into the shop to ask about the advert in the window. So Tessa had decided to give her a chance.
Tessa smiled at the girl now sat across from them. She was a bit of an odd one, true, but she seemed incredibly sweet and sincere, so when Capable had some in asking after the job on offer, she had gladly welcomed the girl into the shop. “So Capable, this is my assistant and partner in crime Myrcella,” she introduced, indicating Myrcella who was sat next to her. “She’s been helping me with the shop for a long time, so if you get the job then you’ll be working quite closely with both of us,” she smiled and let them introduce themselves. “So could you tell us a little about yourself Capable?”
Capable was terribly nervous, she’d never had a job before but it was important that she did. Staying with Furiosa was wonderful but she’d need her own place eventually and until then she wanted to be able to contribute. She’d been lucky to meet Tessa and very much liked the shop. Nodding Capable took a breath, part of her didn’t want to be honest because she didn’t want pity but she had to be. “Well, I’ve recently started educational classes because I missed a lot of school. I grew up in a protected community with limited access to the outside world you see” she didn’t like the world cult, it had a horrible feeling attached to it.
Myrcella smiled encouragingly, “Are you enjoying the classes?” she asked soft and kind and was rewarded with a nod from the red headed woman.
“A protected community, that sounds unusual,” Tessa commented, curious for more information, but realising it might be a sensitive subject. “It’s good that you’re enjoying the classes, what sort of things are you learning about?” she asked, wanting the girl to feel relaxed and she hoped talking about something positive might help.
“It wasn’t pleasant I’m afraid” Capable said before moving on, “I want to be able to get my high school diploma so everything at the moment. It’s taken a while to get used to computers and the internet” she admitted.
Myrcella got a feeling from the way she said that and that she’d not encountered the internet before that it wasn’t a happy story. “Oh don’t worry, I’m still not used to the internet and I grew up with it” she grinned, glad when Capable laughed too.
Tessa smiled as she watched the girl talk. She seemed lovely just with a troubled past. "That's ok, we're not all that with the times here either, I still have an old fashioned cash register next to the modern one, I prefer that one," she told her with a little wink. "We'd obviously offer what training and support we can with using anything like that if you'd like. And then when you feel confident I can take you through some of the more administrative things like ordering stock and the like," she offered. She was pretty certain that she was going to offer Capable the job, she had a nice attitude about her. "So obviously most of the job is customer based, how do you feel about that?"
“Oh I like meeting people. And those I’ve met so far here are lovely. I can read well too” she added, just in case they thought she was illiterate or anything, “So I’d have things to say and I’m not afraid to ask questions if I’m unsure of anything” she promised. She liked these two kind women and rather liked the idea of working with them.
“Honestly we pretty much only get nice people in here” Myrcella smiled, “Book people tend to be nice people”
"And if they're not, I bar them," Tessa joked, not having to have to do that yet. "So long as you love books you're ok in my eyes. Do you have a favourite author or novel?" She asked kindly.
Capable nodded, “I love The Secret Garden” she told her, “It was a nice idea when I was younger that there was a secret place full of beauty where I could escape too” she blushed a little.
Myrcella smiled delightedly, “Oh I adore that story. I’m a huge fan of fairytales really but I do love a sweet story like that”
"Good choice," Tessa nodded as she looked the girl over, scrutinising what she'd seen and heard. "Where are you staying now Capable? If it's near me I might be able to give you a lift in is all, assuming you're hired of course," she offered with a little wink.
“Oh I’m living with a friend” she said, giving Tessa the address, “But please don’t worry I’m sure I could walk here, it would only take an hour or so” she smiled.
“I don’t drive either yet. My Uncle was teaching me but I haven’t taken my test. I should do” Myrcella added with a conspiratorial wink.
“An hour or so? Nonsense, we can’t have that in this place, look at everything that’s just been happening over the last couple of weeks, no, I’ll come and pick you up,it’ll be safer,” Tessa told her, looking at the address Capable had given her. It wasn’t too far out of her way and she’d much rather Capable got home safely in the evening.
“Thank you so much, that would be very kind of you” Capable said, rather touched by the woman's offer. If she got the job of course.
“And after training if you’re scheduled to work when Tessa isn’t I can help you with the bus system once you’re more settled in” Myrcella offered, already assuming this was their new staff member.
Tessa turned and smiled at Myrcella, sharing a knowing look with her as if to acknowledge the decision to hire Capable. Looking back at Capable, she held her hands wide and smiled again. “So is there anything you’d like to ask us? About ourselves or the job?” she offered.
"Oh well umm is there a dress code or anything like that? And will my attending classes be a problem?" She wasn't really sure how it worked.
Myrcella shook her head, "No dress code really. Just look nice which I'm sure you'll have no trouble with" She'd let Tessa answer the other question.
“Just what Myrcella said, dress smart casual and you’ll be fine. As for your classes I don’t see there being a problem. Let me have your class schedule and we can work something out between us all,” Tessa smiled at her confidently. “If you let me have it by the end of the week then I can look over it during the weekend and see what you think on sunday or monday, how does that sound?” she asked.
"I can definitely do that. Thank you so much" Capable said with a smile, this had gone much better than she was expecting and she was already looking forward to working at the store.
