Pietro was still trying to get over the fact that he and Wanda were actually here. It was kind of hard to believe. Not long ago they had been in London and now they were settling into a new apartment in California. They needed to find jobs over summer but their schooling had been taken care of with scholarships. Something he was very grateful for as there was no way the twins would have been able to afford to go to university any other way.
Coming out of his room he found his sister looking out of their living room window, “Shall we explore a little?” he suggested slinging an arm around her shoulders.
Wanda couldn’t help but gape in wonder at the fact they were here. From orphans with a dim outlook according to some of their carers to achieving scholarships at a great university, she was still amazed they made it here. Pulling the living room curtain back ever so slightly, she peeked out at the bustling world. Feeling her brother’s arm sling across her shoulders, she smiled up at him. “Definitely, we need to find out where the shops are, because I am not eating one more fast food meal,” she told him, laughing as she patted his hand and moved away to the kitchen counter to pick up the keys.
"Well you know I am not going to turn down finding food" he grinned, following her out. "Do you think it will be very different from Europe?" he asked her thoughtfully as they descended the stairs, choosing them over the lift.
“You’re always thinking about food,” Wanda joked, following him down the stairs. “I think it will be different from UK, but I hope not different in a bad way. From all I hear California is a nice place to live. Very sporty so you should feel very at home here,” she laughed.
“I am a growing man” he teased her, he knew he ate a lot but then he exercised a lot. “The weather is already nicer” he nodded and smiled, “I am looking forward to running along the beach and maybe learning to surf if I can”
“It’s a good thing you run so much, you’ll never put weight on here at least,” Wanda teased, following him out the front door and putting on her sunglasses as they came out into the sunshine. “I could see you being good at surfing. You’ll get tanned too, much more American than our pale skin,” she mused.
“As long as I do not burn I will be happy” Pietro told his sister as he put his own sunglasses on. “I want to learn as many new skills as I can. Though I believe I may need a job to pay for such hobbies” As well as keep them fed of course.
“Of course, but this is the land of opportunity brother,” Wanda grinned, opening her arms wide to indicate the world around them. “There is nothing to hold us back here and if there is not a job we can find we like the look of, then we create our own,” she told him enthusiastically. “That is how America works brother,” she laughed.
Pietro couldn't help laughing, "I think America has already brainwashed you little sister" he teased her ruffling her hair, "But you are right we should be able to find employment" After all they were not without skill.
"I'm not brainwashed, Pietro," Wanda moved away from his hand in her hair. "America is the land of opportunity and we have always been opportunistic," she grinned. "We will be absolutely fine. Perhaps not a waiter though, you'd eat the food before it got to the tables," she joked.
“We have definitely always been that” Pietro agreed, “Oh can you imagine working in a bakery or somewhere? That would be amazing” though his sister was right, he’d eat everything. Being an active person meant he ate a lot and was practically always hungry.
Wanda laughed at him, pushing gently at his arm in a sisterly way. “You would be fired in an hour brother,” she joked, but it was funnier because it was true. “No, you should try...a sports centre, training young kids in football and basketball and such,” she grinned as they started walking down the street to find a 7/11 or something. “You would make a good teacher I think,” she nodded at him.
“But think of what I could eat in an hour” he teased her, knowing it would be a miracle if he lasted that long. Pietro nodded, “I think I would enjoy that a lot. And what about you sister? What sort of job do you want?”
Wanda hummed to herself as she considered, looking off into the distance as she did. “I don’t know to be honest. Maybe something with books? I’m not sure I would be as good at teaching as you,” she told him. “What do you think I could do?”
"I think you could do anything you like" Pietro told her with a smile, "You have always achieved anything you set out to" They both had, nothing kept them down for long.
“You have always been such a good boost for my ego,” Wanda laughed, throwing her head back. “We will find something, brother and soon, but first is that a seven eleven?” she asked, pointing to the shop lit up on the corner of the next block.
"Naturally" Pietro grinned, "Indeed. We usually do. Oh good find, yes it is and I've been told they do tasty doughnuts" because he wouldn't be who he was of he hadn't done food homework.
Wanda rolled her eyes and laughed at him. She’d known about his food research, he’d basically told her everything he wanted to try before they got there. “Come on then before you starve and try to eat me,” she grinned, pushing him gently towards the shop.
