Who: Tony Stark and Veronica Mars
When: Recently
Where: Some Law Firm
What: Tony needs a Lawyer
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete
Tony was looking for a lawyer to do some consulting work. There were things he needed to ask of someone who wasn’t on his staff--due to conflict of interest. Also, he was starting to get the feeling that most of his Legal Department were yes men, and no matter what he asked them, he’d be right. Tony appreciated honesty more than boot-licking. He’d googled some of the local law firms, picked one of the best sounding ones, then drove to the office to see if there was someone willing to help him out.
He headed inside the front doors and glanced around, pulling his sunglasses off as he did so.
Veronica worked at a fairly small law firm. They did a lot of pro bono work. It wasn’t exactly helping her pay off her student loans, but she liked the idea of helping those who really needed it. However lately, with her dreams, she had been thinking about making a change. Not sure if defending criminals was really what she wanted to do anymore. Sure there were some who actually were innocent, but a good chunk of them weren’t and she didn’t have much say in which cases she was put on.
She was going over some files for an upcoming case when she heard someone enter the office. Veronica looked up and immediately recognized the guy. Who didn’t know who Tony Stark was? “Mr. Stark,” she said gathering her papers together and putting them aside. She stood up to greet him. “How can I help you?” and more importantly what the hell was he doing here? Didn’t he already have a team of lawyers?
“That’s me,” Tony said while he turned, even before he knew who it was who’d spoken. A lazy smile crossed his lips as his eyes fell on the petite blonde. He knew better than to discount her, though. “I’m looking for a lawyer, actually.” Funny thing he should end up here. “Is there someone I can speak to about some consulting work?”
“You’re in luck,” Veronica informed him. “You just happen to be in a law office,” she smirked herself. She came out from behind her desk walking straight up to him, holding out her hand to shake. “Veronica Mars,” she introduced herself. “What type of consulting work?”
“So, I am. Seems I’m in the right place for this sort of inquiry,” Tony responded with a little smirk on his lips. She already knew his name. He didn’t need to give it when he reached forward to shake her hand. That was a relief, they could get straight down to business. “I’m looking for someone to do a bit of research for me. Contract stuff, because of one of my patents, it’s possible it might cause a conflict of interest with my current legal staff. To be completely honest it’s quite dry and boring work, and if I find someone out-of-house I can pay well to have a good job done with it. Where as all the employees in my legal department are salaried, and that makes them lazy.”
After shaking Tony Stark’s hand Veronica retreated further into her tiny office, stepping back behind her desk. She motioned for Tony to take a seat on the other side. “I mostly work on defenses,” she wasn’t going to lie to him. That would just be a bad move. “However, I did take quite a few classes on corporate and contract law in law school. I can see what I can do? You can always have your lazy lawyers look over it after.”
“I’d appreciate any help you can give me,” Tony said as he slipped into the chair. “I know it’s a strange request. But, being Orange County, I imagine we’re all used to a little strangeness now and again.” He pulled out a smart phone. It wasn’t an off the shelf item, more like a pane of glass with glowing lights on it. Strange contraption--one of his own design, actually. (Surprise, surprise.) He tapped the glass a few times. “I’ll email you my specs. You can take your time with it.”
Once Tony was sitting Veronica took her own seat. At the mention of email Veronica opened up her desk drawer and pulled out a business card handing it to him. It had all her information on it. Phone, email, office address. Although he obviously already knew the last one considering he was at her office.
“Is that one of yours?” she asked referring to his phone. “I’ll get started on it right away,” yes he had said to take her time, but this was Tony Stark. She wanted to impress.
Tony accepted the business card. He held the phone up to it, scanned it in, then passed the business card back over to her. “Thanks,” he didn’t take his eyes off the phone as the software imported her contact information. Then he sent the email.
“You should have it now.” He added, finally turning his eyes to her face again. He broke into a smile. Showing off was one thing Tony Stark did better than any other.
She had meant for him to keep the card, but clearly he didn’t need it. Just then her own phone buzzed. Veronica picked it up seeing the new email from him. “Got it,” she confirmed before setting her phone back down. She’d look at it in more detail later. “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“Nope, that’s all. You’ve got my contact info.” He trusted that she’d guard his personal information well. If Tony Stark’s personal cell number got out there? It’d be a mess. It would never stop ringing.
He pulled himself up from the chair and reached out a sturdy hand for her to shake. “It’s been a pleasure to meet you, Veronica Mars.”
“You too, Mr. Stark.” Veronica replied shaking his hand. “Talk to you soon,” it would certainly be interesting working for Tony Stark. Even if he claimed the work was boring.
