It seemed to Meg that Christine was kind of tapped out. For a moment she considered striking up some innocent small talk, but then again she really did want to talk to Christine about the dreams. She felt so awful for what the Phantom had put her through.
“Hey, Christine.” She smiled, though it wasn’t as cheerful and bright as her usual smiles. Most of the time Meg could light up a room, but this was different. Christine was 100% right in thinking that something was on the girl’s mind.
“Yeah, everything is okay. It’s just...” She bit her lip for a second in thought before continuing. “I had some dreams recently. It gave me a better look at what kind of person the Opera Ghost really is.” Meg offered a weak smile, though there was no happiness behind it. It was more of a sympathetic thing, the smile. All Meg wanted to do was let Christine know that, as her friend, she was there for her to lean on.
“You’ve been through a lot.” The smile faded. It was only in dreams, of course, but Meg knew how real the dreams could seem. It was like living another life once their eyes closed at night and they drifted off to sleep. Nightmares may have all just been in their heads, but they felt real and that’s what mattered.
