Tink was in Baxter Bakery again. It was becoming a habit. Something that she should probably break, considering what this was going to do to her bank account… but she couldn’t help herself. Someone suggested those sparkling lattes, and now Tink was completely hooked. She liked hers with mocha or caramel or whatever. Tink liked things ridiculously sweet. Maybe had to do with the fairy part of her? Though in her Dreams the fairies mostly ate like, fruit. And stuff.
Anyway, she was in line for a sparkling latte. She stepped up to the register and asked for one with an extra shot of espresso. It was one of those mornings.
Baxter’s was busy as usual. That was one of the great things about working there, it was always busy which meant she never had time to be bored and her shift usually flew by. Of course there were other perks like awesome people to work with and discounts on the yummy baked goods and sparkling lattes. Not that Caroline really ate human food all that much anymore, but still the discounts were nice.
“Good choice,” Caroline commented as she entered the girl’s order into the register. “I love the sparkling lattes,” she gave her a warm smile. Just because the bakery was busy didn’t mean she couldn’t take time to be friendly with the customers.
Tink was appreciative of the warm smile and kind words. She couldn’t help but break into one herself--the smile, that is. It was really early in the morning. She’d had a late night with Anders the night before (a good one, but a late one), and was definitely looking for a pick-me-up to get her day started right. “I gotta admit, I’m addicted,” Tink said, the smile becoming a grin. “But I have to have that extra shot, too.”
“They are pretty addicting,” she agreed. “Sometimes I feel like I should warn the customers that if you get one you will be hooked. But then that would be bad for business. Besides there are like way worse things to be addicted to.” Sometimes though an extra shot was needed. Caroline could relate to that. She was a fairly busy girl, sleep was very low on her priority list. “I know what you mean, long night?”
“Yeah, well…” Tink actually flushed a little. When Tink went red, she went red. Not a cute, pink spattering on her cheeks, but full on blush. “My boyfriend was over, and things are going incredibly well between us, so… He kept me up pretty late. Now I have to go do like, six oil changes. I need some extra energy.”
...that was a lot of TMI for a stranger. Hopefully the pretty barista wouldn’t mind the word vomit.
Well Caroline wasn’t exactly expecting the girl to open up about her nightly activities with her boyfriend. But she could relate. “I know how that goes,” she replied with her same warm smile. “Mechanic?” she asked with the whole oil change reference it made sense.
Tink gave a little laugh. At least it was good to know she wasn’t the only one who did things like this. She nodded. “Yep. Tink’s Garage is my place.” Then she pulled out a card to pay for her drink and handed it over. “You ever need work done on your vehicle come on by. I’ll give you a stiff discount if you bring a Sparkling Latte with you.”
“Thanks! If my car ever brings me problems I know who to call,” and what to bring for a discount. Though she supposed she could just compel someone to fix her car. No, that was wrong. Caroline was not going to use her powers to cheat life.
She swiped Tink’s card handing it back to her. “I’m Caroline, by the way. You know in case my car ever does break down. But I’m sure I’ll see you back in here too with your sparkling latte addiction and all.”
“Hi, Caroline.” Tink accepted back the card with a smile. “I think I’ll remember your face. Not so great with names, but I can definitely do faces.” She pocketed the card. “It’s crazy. Completely addicted. Thankfully I’ve worked it into my budget.”
“Works for me!” Caroline could understand that. She didn’t always remember all the customers at the bakery. Of course the regulars she made sure she got their names right, but the semi-regulars and everyone else? Yeah it was just too much to keep track of. “Definitely worth it,” she added in reference to Tink working them into her budget. “It will be ready in a few minutes,” she motioned for her to wait for her drink towards the end of the counter. “It was nice meeting you!” she added her smile bright, before moving on to the next customer.
